Review Paper On Static Analysis and Design of Retaining Wall With and Without Shelve Using Software
Abstract: This paper represents the results of static analysis and style of wall
with and without using shelves. Cantilever wall with pressure relief shelves are
considered as a peculiar kind of wall. The concept of providing pressure relief
shelves on the backfill side of a R.C.C wall reduces the whole earth pressure on
the wall, which ends up during a reduced thickness of the wall & it helps to style
cantilever wall under economical way. The conclusions during this thesis drawn
supported the discussion and results obtained analytically and using Staad-pro
model study. The pressure distribution diagram varies much because of addition
of shelves. The common cost of construction is saving up to fifteen percent to
twenty five percent by the using of relief shelves over the standard cantilever
wall its drawn by observation. Analytical results of active earth pressure & nodal
reactions & bending moments with pressure relief shelves are close agreement
with the Staad-pro software result.
1.INTRODUCTION
This Retaining walls are generally built to carry back soil mass. Retaining walls
are structures that are constructed to retain such materials which are unable to
square vertically by themselves. they’re also provided to keep up the grounds at
two different levels. The study during this thesis is dispensed mainly for
extemporaneously improvisation of the retaining structure because it is an
necessary features of civil construction projects, all types of bridges, high walls
in hilly terrain, etc. with suitable type, proper design and reasonable estimation.
A wall with pressure relief shelve is unusual style of wall. The pressure relief
shelve towards the backfill side of wall reduces the full earth pressure on the
stem wall. The less material requires into the stem wall because of provision of
shelves to the wall and a few materials acts vertically on the pressure relieving
shelves & ultimately this results into the economical design.
Objective Of Case Study:
1) To analyse and style the model wall and without shelf by conventional
method.
2) To compare the results obtained from analysis and style of wall with and
without shelf & discuss the results.
3) To analyse of modal wall with and without shelf using software cost
comparison between wall with and without shelf.
4) To make the wall stable in order that soil bearing pressure gives equal
pressure distribution on each sides.
2. LITERATURE REVIEW
MIKIO FUTAKI, OSAMU SAKADUCHII (1992) [1]: This paper concerned with
experimental study on a true cantilever wall for seismic loadings. during this
paper, soil-structure interaction has been done by model test. this paper intends
to analyse the protection & to gauge the force functioning on the wall for the
seismic loadings.
RAJESH D. PADHEY, PRABHULING B. ULLAGADDI (2010) [2]: The active earth
pressure & lever arm are reduced because of provision of shelf and there by
archive versa considerable reduction the instant about the bottom slab.
Dr . D. N. SHINDE, MR . ROHAN R. WATVE (2015) [3]: This paper concerned with
the analysis of cantilever wall using finite element method. The wall with &
without shelves is analysed by using Staad-pro model & results for various
parameters are to be compared during this paper.

BHATTACHARYA, C. A. TAYLOR (2012) [4]: Reinforced concrete cantilever
retaining walls represent a well-liked form of retaining system. It’s extensively
considered as advantageous over conventional gravity walls because it gives
economy & ease in construction & installation.
3. METHODOLOGY
A. Analysis & design of cantilever retaining wall without shelves
This chapter concerned with stability of the cantilever wall without shelves. the
steadiness of the cantilever wall without shelves in vital to review. The principle
of design of cantilever retaining wall without shelves, various forces are working
on structure and also the stability of cantilever retaining wall should be checked
for sliding, overturning, bearing capacity failure & tension has been explained
below,
1) No Sliding: The wall must be safe against sliding. The factor of safety
against sliding must be greater than 1.5. In other words, u>Rv>Rh are
vertical & horizontal component of R respectively & u is friction factor
between wall base & foundation soil.
2) No Overturning: The wall must be safe against overturning about toe. The
factor of safety against overturning must be greater than 2.
3) No Bearing Capacity Failure: The pressure caused by Rv at the highest of
the wall must not exceed the allowable bearing capacity of the soil. The
pressure distribution at base is assumed to be linear.
4) No Tension: There should be no tension at the bottom of the wall. When
the eccentricity (e) is larger than B/6, tension develops at the heel.
B. Analysis & Design of Cantilever Retaining wall with shelves: (Reducing its
measuring dimensions up to some extent)
C. Analysis and design of retaining wall with shelves: ( reducing its measuring
dimension up to maximum value)
D. Analysis and Design of cantilever retaining wall with two shelves:
