Quantity Lecture 1

CIVIL:

Civil is the branch of engineering science and related with Designing, Construction, and
maintenances of Building, Dams, Highways, Bridges, Tunnels and other structures.

QUANTITY:

It is the most important subject of Civil Engineering.

Quantity is an art in which we find the quantum or quantity of different building materials.
labors and its Rates.

DATA FOR ESTIMATE:

There are three things required for Quantity with the help of this data we find the quantity
easily.

1) Drawings. 2) Specification. 3) Rates.

SCALE:

There are two types of scale which we used in Quantity.

1) F.P.S System.
2) M.K.S System.

F.P.S SYSTEM:

It means Foot, Pound, Second system. This system is mostly used in Pakistan.

M.K.S SYSTEM:

It means Meter, Kilogram, Second system. This system is used basically in out Countries.

Quantity Lecture 20

Long Bars are called “ DISTTRIBUTION BARS “ ……………

Short Bars are called “ MAIN BARS “…………….

Length of Slab = 20 ft

Width of Slab = 15 ft

Spacing between the MAIN BARS & DISTRIBUTION BARS = 7 inches

Spacing between the MAIN BARS & DISTRIBUTION BARS = 7/12 =0.58 ft
Calculation and Quantity of Steel are given Below …………
 NUMBER OF MAIN BARS :

Number of main bars = Length of slab / Spacing +1

Number of main bars = 20/0.58+1

Number of main bars = 36 No’s

 NUMBER OF DISTRIBUTION BARS :

Number of distribution bars = Width of slab / Spacing +1

Number of distribution bars = 15/0.58+1

Number of distribution bars = 27 No’s

 LENGTH OF MAIN BARS :

Length of main bars = No’s of main bar X Length of each main bar

Length of main bars = 36 X 15

Length of main bars = 540 ft

 LENGTH OF DISTRIBUTION BARS:

Length of distribution bar = No’s of distribution bar X Length of each Distribution bar

Length of distribution bar = 27 X 20

Length of distribution bar = 540 ft

 TOTAL LENGTH = Main bars + Distribution bars

Total length = 540 + 540

Total length = 1080 ft

 NOW WE USE THE FORMULA

πd 2
Volume of Steel = X total length of bars
4

3.1415(0.041) 2
Volume of Steel = X 1080
4

0.00545
Volume of Steel = X 1080
4

Volume of Steel = 0.00136 X 1080

Volume of Steel = 1.473

Total Weight of Steel = Volume of steel X Unit Weight

Total Weight of Steel = 1.473 X 490

Total Weight of Steel = 721.584 lbs

Total Weight of Steel in Kg = 721.584/2.204

Total Weight of Steel in Kg = 327.397 Kg

RENT FIXATION OF LAND + BUILDING

Land = 5%

Structure = 6%

Plot Rate = 30,00000 Rs

Construction Rate of sft = 25 X 50 = 1250 sft Rate of per sft is equal to 1200 Rs

Construction Rate = 1200 /sft

Cost of Building = 1250 X 1200 = 1500000 Rs

Rent Fixation of Land = 5/100 X 30,00000

Rent Fixation of Land = 150000 Rs

Rent Fixation of building = 6/100 X 1500000

Rent Fixation of building = 90,000 Rs

Total Rent = Land + Building = 150000 + 90,000

Annual Rent = 240000 Rs

Per Month = 20,000 Rs.
