What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea?

Students should be able to understand, identify and discuss the various stages of the life cycle
through Padlet.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

X Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
teacher direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

X Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

What if I told you caterpillars were the same as butterflies? Did anyone have any idea about that? If
you did, how did you know?
We will be learning about the different stages through a butterfly's life cycle. We will discuss and
learn about the stages and learn about the importance. We will watch a video from BrainPop Jr
about butterflies then we get into partners and talk to each other about what we learned. When in
partners you will draw the life stages of the butterfly and then login to Padlet to do the questions
there too.
Managing student learning:
Students should remain engaged throughout the lesson. As a whole group, students will watch the
BrainPop Jr video to introduce the life stages. When in partners, students should stay on topic and to
accomplish that I will assign partners. They should discuss and collaborate on their drawing. Finally,
for individual work students will use Padlet to demonstrate their understanding.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
Students will be in partners and will have to demonstrate understanding. Each partner group should
allow each other to speak, color ect to be fair and allow each other to be heard. Padlet is another
great tool to use to allow students to show individual creativity and voice.
Reflective Practice:
I am excited to see my students use Padlet as an alternative way to small and whole group
discussion. This allows everyone to be heard, be creative and still respond to each other.
