Human Life Stages
During sexual inter course 200 million to 300 million sperm can be deposited in the vagina of
female, only several thousand reach an egg in the oviduct.
The sperm in oviduct come into contact with chemical secretion in the vigina.
The one spem that makes succesful contact with the egg releases an chemical reaction that
have a direct effect on the protective membranes on the egg`s surface.
The structure of the egg membrane is disrupted, and sperm head can enter the egg.
``Once a sperm has entered the egg, changes in the electric charge of egg`s membrane
prevent other sperm from entering the egg.``
The nucleus of the successful sperm joins with the nucleus of egg and creates a fertilized
cell called ZYGOTE
ZYGOTE FORMATION
• Some times 2 eggs leave the ovary
at the same time. If both eggs are
fertilized and both develop, faternal
twins are born.Figure A
• Identical twins develop from two
identical zygotes figure B. Identical
twins have the same hereditory
information.
• Multiple births also can occur when
3 or more eggs are produced at one
time or when the zygote separates
into 3 or more parts.
ZYGOTE DEVELOPMENT BEFORE BIRTH
• After fertilization, the zygote moves along
the oviduct to uterus.
• After about 7 days, the zygote attaches to
the uterus wall, which has been thickeing
in preparation to receive a zygote.
• The zygote will develop into embryo, later
on into a baby in about 9 months.
• ``The period of development from
fertilized egg to birth is known as
pregnancy``.
