COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE SOCIAL IMPACTS OF TELEVISION AND SOCIAL MEDIA.

I . OPENING STATEMENT

Television and other forms of online and social media have been having a significant societal
influence on everyone. The usage of social media for entertainment purposes is similar to that
of watching television. The usage of social media for entertainment purposes is common.
Because of technology, we are able to communicate an idea and share it with one another
regardless of how far apart we physically are. The proliferation of social media has made it
easier for people all around the globe to communicate our knowledge. Television, which can
both supply information to people all over the globe and broadcast it to more people, is another.
Because of this, they will have an easier time selling the goods in Bavaria. With social media,
every one of us has the ability to read the material, even if it does not pertain to the information
that we need. Altering the information that is shown on social media platforms is also possible
at your discretion. The information that is broadcast on television, on the other hand, is aimed at
a certain audience, and there are constraints on the amount of information that can be
presented in this medium. I like using social media because it provides knowledge that cannot
be obtained from television alone. When information is shown on television, it can no longer be
substituted for anything else.

II . A

According to Forrest and Wood (2012), there is a possibility that some individuals may claim
that using social networking sites might be helpful to people who already have social anxiety
and poor self-esteem. However, the tenuous connections that develop between a large number
of individuals as a result of using social media are not always a prerequisite for healthy
relationships and forward-thinking forms of social engagement. Websites such as Facebook
favor those who have close relationships by suggesting friends, tagging photos, asking family
and relationship questions, and so on. This may cause individuals who are already experiencing
low self-esteem or social anxiety and do not have as many friends to become more introverted.
People who have low self-esteem are also more likely to express themselves in ways that are
not liked by other people. This could be through showing too much anger, sadness, or
overcompensating to be liked, all of which can make it more difficult for them to make new
friends.

II . B

The use of social media is another venue that has an effect on society. There have been several
reports of cyberbullying in recent years, particularly among adolescents. It has also evolved into
a type of competitive bragging or boasting. People who use social media these days are
influenced by a variety of factors, including who has the most followers or virtual "friends," who
looks good, and who has the best clothes or car. Other factors include who did something
better than someone else. Two of the many positive aspects of social media that appeal to me
are outlined below in this paragraph. One of the benefits is that it enables me to maintain
relationships with distant members of my family. It enables us to exchange images and keep up
with one another's lives at the same time. The second thing is being able to read informative
websites online, like those from psychology journals, art sites, or music stations.

III . A

According to Jacobsen and Forste (2011), even when people live in close proximity to one
another, they often choose to solely contact one another over social media, despite the fact that
they could easily meet in person. The majority of the time, there is no contact at all, not even via
a phone conversation, which is still not in person but is preferable to communicating through a
text message or social networking platform. My opinion is that an individual's social skills in
face-to-face interactions suffer when they communicate too often over the internet or other
forms of social media. Some people may refer to this as a lack of social and people skills; either
way, it may lead to an anti-social lifestyle or personality. Some people are more likely to
experience symptoms of social anxiety when exposed to large gatherings of people, particularly
those that they do not know. In particular, one study came to the conclusion that self-esteem
and the ability to engage in social contact online are associated. This suggests that the quality
of connections maintained offline is related to the amount of time spent online.

III . B

Both social media and television have been linked to an increased risk of developing a variety of
undesirable psychological and physical health conditions, including social anxiety. Not just as a
result of the material that is presented, but also as a consequence of the routines that we
develop and the amount of time and effort that we invest in such media channels. Everything
that is broadcast via conventional media channels is referred to as "traditional media." It
encompasses modern means of communication such as radio, television, newspapers,
magazines, and other such publications. In conventional forms of media, the sender often
makes the decision about what will be published, broadcast, or transmitted, while the receiver is
the one who is always in possession of the information. On the other hand, social media refers
to online platforms such as websites and mobile apps that enable users to participate in social
networking. It is a form of electronic communication that enables users to create and share
information, ideas, messages, and content via social networking websites and applications.
Users can also use it to communicate with one another.

CONCLUSION:

As technology gets better every day, we become more and more interested in what it can do.
Technology is amazing and can be used in so many ways that are very helpful. It makes it easier
for people to talk to each other, share information, learn, find things out, and even save lives in
the medical field. My online classes and my cell phone are the most important ways I use
technology. There are different ways to pass on technology. Technology is great until the media
comes out about it. For example, I use my cell phone instead of my laptop most of the time
when I'm not at school. My cell phone has internet access, so I can use apps, check my e-mail,
and go to websites. I have to be honest and say that I do enjoy watching TV. Most of the time,
what we see in these forms of communication and media is bad. The time we spend on these
forums and devices and how important we make them are also bad for our lives outside of the
virtual world.

CLOSING STATEMENT:

Social media is another place where people can make a difference. There are a lot of new
stories about teens being bullied online. It has also turned into a way to show off or compete.
People who use social media these days are influenced by things like who has the most
followers or "virtual friends," who did something better than someone else, who looks good, and
who has the best clothes or car. There are two things I like about social media that I think are
very good. One reason is that it helps me stay in touch with my faraway family. It lets us share
pictures and keep up with each other's lives. The other thing is being able to look at interesting
web pages from places like psychology magazines, art sites, or music stations. Another big
effect that social media has had on society as a whole is that it has made people less willing
and less interested in talking to each other in person if they can avoid doing so online or on their
cell phones.
