Girls Who Rock! A Palindrome Match Story

Q & A with Founder and President of Shes the First Tammy Tibbetts
How did you hear about Palindrome? I heard about Palindrome through an article in The Wall Street Journal.! What were your specic board needs? We were looking to expand our board with expertise from the nancial and business sector. How have you communicated with your matched board members? Tell us about some of your preliminary discussion. I met with Evelyn Rusli and Lauren Heiser after work in New York City, and gave them the crash course in what She's the First is all about, how far we've grown and our vision for the future. At the time we met, a couple weeks ago, I was gearing up for the biggest fundraiser of She's the First, the GIRLS WHO ROCK concert -- Evelyn attended with a friend and Lauren donated to our online campaign. We are so grateful for their immediate support! We are meeting again to debrief and talk about how to start tackling our next biggest challenge: corporate sponsorship and stronger donation campaigns, with better use of technology on our website. They are invited to attend the next Board meeting in August to meet our current members and discuss the next steps!

What is the mission of Shes the First? Shes the First is a not-for-prot that sponsors girls education in the developing world. We encourage people, especially Millennials, to creatively fundraise for girls sponsorships with their online and ofine social networks. For sponsors, Shes the First provides community, leadership opportunities, and a sense of global citizenship. For underprivileged girls, a sponsorship is life-changing: Most will be the rst in their families to graduate.

How has Palindrome helped so far and how do you hope to engage with us in the future? This is just the beginning -- I look forward to learning best practices that other Boards have developed and growing our organization with the new talent that Palindrome has brought our way!

I heard about Palindrome from Zaw Thet who I know and respect from the technology industry. I wanted to get involved with Palindrome because of their unique model of matching people who have specic capabilities and expertise with organizations who truly need and can benet from these skills. It ultimately allows individuals to contribute in immediate and meaningful ways to worthy organizations which they wouldn't otherwise know about. I was matched with Helen Keller International (HKI). HKI is an amazing organization that was founded in 1915 and is dedicated to saving sight

and lives around the world by addressing malnutrition and other causes of blindness. HKI was specically looking for someone with a combination of nance and technology backgrounds. My initiatives are still being dened but they are likely to include: (1) assisting in broadening out the donor base and reaching more individual donors, (2) working through some complex nancial issues, and (3) helping them think through technology opportunities which can further extend the global reach of the HKI organization. The on-boarding process has involved meeting a number of the board members and the senior management team.I also was able to attend their annual gala event last month, which was a great way of getting a feel for the organization, its mission, its team and its donors.

PALINDROME LETTER
The past several months have been nothing short of amazing here at Palindrome Advisors. In March, we announced our Palindrome Pledge program, where over a hundred top industry leaders made a commitment to change the way they give back to the nonprot sector. In April, we announced our partnership with the White Houses new Startup America initiative called Palindrome Startups, which matches our advisors with young companies and rst-time entrepreneurs. Finally, in addition to serving the needs of our nonprot and advisor partners, we have also committed to our internal development as an organization. As such, by the end of 2011, we hope to hire a full-time staff to oversee advisor relations, nonprot outreach, and strategic development. It is our hope that in doing so, we will be able to become a more effective organization bridging the gap between the nonprot and for-prot world. We are glad you are on board the journey with us as we strive to achieve this goal.

Indeed, Palindrome has great strides here in just the past three months. We have grown from 100 elite business leaders and 40 nonprot partners to a network of over 300 advisors and nonprots. We have hosted more than 5 advisor events and one nonprot conference bringing together members of the technology, media, advertising, and venture capital industries to work together towards change in the nonprot sector.
