Mission Control

Room Data

Phase 1: Launch

Screenshot of SpaceX falcon Heavy Test flight carried out on 6 Feb 18 Trajectory of the SpaceX side-boosters and the core booster after separation

• During the initial phase, lasting from ignition till the

separation, the altitude, velocity and the trajectory of the
spacecraft are tracked.
Phase 2: Spacecraft Orbit
tracking

• The orbit of the spacecraft simulated on General Mission

Analysis Tool (GMAT)
Post Separation Data Monitoring
After separation, lot of activities are carried out and the data from these sensors needs
to be constantly monitored to ensure correct operation. Some of the data tracked in the
mission control room is as follows:

• Helium venting from the plumb lines: We fill helium in the plumb lines to
avoid leakage of fuel. Only after separation, we vent out the helium and fuel comes
into the plumb lines.

• Solar panel deployment: Check the voltages in all onboard components

• Star-sensor data recording: It is a sensor which detects the location of the

spacecraft by looking at the stars

• Heating system activation: Temperature measurement across the spacecraft

• Inertial measurement Unit data: This is used for determining future position

Phase 3: Orbit Insertion

• This is the most critical phase, wherein the spacecraft

enters the orbit of the target (Moon for lunar mission/
