Clinical scenario 2.
During 2007, 45 suspected cases, 15 probable cases and 18 confirmed
cases of measles (18,19,20,21,23,22, 23,18,18,18,19,19,19,29,20,19,22
and 17 ages) were diagnosed during epidemiologic weeks 14–42 in
Almaty city between students of universities. Population of Almaty’s
students was 3000.

Q1/Estimate type of incidence in this city?

Answer/ The type of incidence in this city is “incidence rate” because
incidence rate determine rate of a disease happen during specified
interval(or period) of time.
Incidence rate of confirmed cases is: (Confirmed cases/ Population of
Almaty’s students) × 100,000
=(18/3000)×100,000= 600
So incidence rate is 600.

Q2/Measure percentages of suspected case, probable case and

confirmed case of measles?
Answer/
1_ Percentage of suspected case is (suspected cases/ Population of
Almaty’s students)× 100%
= (45/3000)×100%
= 1.5%

2_ Percentage of probable case is (probable cases/ Population of

Almaty’s students)× 100%
=(15/3000)×100%
=0.5%
3_ Percentage of confirmed case is (confirmed cases/ Population of
Almaty’s students)× 100%
=(18/3000)×100%
=0.6%.

Q3/ Make a list of the confirmed cases and measure their mean, median
and mode, and standard deviation , and standard deviation

Q4/ Fill a PICO framework according to the clinical scenario?

Answer/
PICO framework:
Population Intervention Comparison Outcomes
Comparison
between
suspected, Determination
probable and of percentages
Almaty’s confirmed of infections
Non
students cases of during
measles epidemiological
between weeks 14-42
Almaty’s
students

Q5/ Formulate a well-built clinical question to this scenario?

Answer/
How confirmed and probable infections did progress clinically in
students over the epidemiologic weeks(14–42)?
