the bell at 6:45 PM after cocktails to
begin our 54th Annual Demotion Dinner of
NEWSLETTER Moraga Rotary Club. Rich welcomed
everyone and highlighted we’re missing
members who wanted to be here Herb

Brophy, Doug & Ann Damaschino,
Barb Bruner, Debbie & Lou Roessler,
and spouse Clyde Wilson for various
Next Meeting: reasons, including illness and Covid-19
exposures. We missed them all.
Tuesday, July 5, Noon at
Hubert Ma gave the Thought For The
La Finestra Restaurante Day, based upon the war in the news and
the constant need to strive for peace. He
then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Tradition holds that the President
Town Hall Theatre Nominee gives a toast to the outgoing
President, so Rich stepped in for
Greeter & Invocator: Jennifer Brophy, thanking Brian South
for 2 great years as our club’s president.

With that, the dinner bell was rung and
Zoom connection information for next week’s members feasted on huge portions of
meeting will be distributed early next week Caprese and Caesar salads, Mixed Fruit
salad, Focaccia bread, Jumbo Prawns
Upcoming Speakers: with Mushrooms, Sage Butter, and
. Cheese Raviolis, Chicken Drum Sticks
To Be Determined oven baked with Rosemary Pomegranate
sauce, Assorted Vegetables, Fingerling
Potatoes, and for desserts Lemon Cake,
Chocolate Brownies, Tiramisu and
Calendar of Future Events: Homemade Cookies. It was truly a feast.

July 16 – Rotary Awards and Installation At 7:45 PM, Rich went around the room
to introduce spouses and guests and
Dinner, Rolling Hills Casino,
friends of Moraga Rotary.
Corning.
October 28-30 –District 5160 Annual
Conference, Monterey.
Next, Brian South was invited to a chair
of prominence in front, and Rich
presented:

“Brian South, This is Your Life!”

This was a slide show of Brian as a

handsome baby, and growing up and He got married, and on his wedding night
being attracted to girls at a young age. showed his wife his cannonball.

He helped around the house with

vacuuming.

He studied up on Rotary rules and got

He loved deep sea fishing. elected Moraga Rotary Club President.
After 2 years of service, the club wanted
to honor him with a monument with other
great distinguished presidents.
Finally, Brian recognized all club
members and their years in Moraga
Rotary, with “year pins” for those over 20
years of service. Then he recognized his
Board of Directors with gifts that served
him over these past 2 years, and finally
recognized the “Service Stars” who are
those members who served the club over
and above throughout the year, with a
star pin that surprisingly looks like a
police badge.

His final recognition was the 2021-2022

Rotarian of the Year award for
But we had to settle for another gavel outstanding dedication and service to the
plaque instead. Moraga Rotary Club, voted by the
membership, that went to Rich Render.
Congratulations Brian, and thank you
for 2 great years of leadership of the
Moraga Rotary Club.

Brian gave a great summary of the

accomplishments of the club both
domestically and with our international
projects. He showed pictures of the
Houston International Convention that he
attended earlier this year, and the
international friends he met.

Next, our new incoming Co-Presidents
Igor Kipnis and Roger Gregory
described their focus for the club going
forward. Igor is the tall one.
They hope to trade off running the weekly
meetings, based upon work and
newsletter schedules. To replace the
queen’s tiara, they both wore Ukrainian
military service caps with ear flaps to
start off their year, Igor is the general.
Their final action was to name their new
Board of Directors, that looked similar
to the last Board, and gave them their
new service pins naming their roles.
The traditional final closing act of a
Demotion Party was to call Brian back to
the podium and ring the bell, closing out
his year. It was a great party with great
food and a wonderful bar. Thanks to
Ron Mucovich, Tony Schoemehl, Gary
Irwin and Frank May who helped set up
and tear down.
