A-3 TARGET STRENGTH FOR MIXPROPORTIONING

f’ck = fck+1.65 S
f’ck = target average compressive strength at 28 days
fck = characteristic compressive strength at 28 dys
S = standard deviation, (As Per Concrete Bridge Code Cluase no 8.7.5.3 = 7.0 N/mm2

Fck 45
S 7
f’ck 45 1.65 7
f’ck 56.55 N/mm2
Therefore, target strength 56.55 N /mm2
hence Target Mean Strength is Adopted 56.55 N /mm2
APPROXIMATE AIR CONTENT
From Table 3, the approximate amount of entrapped air to be expected in normal (non-air-entrained) concrete is 1.0 percent
for 20 mm nominal maximum size of aggregate
A-4 SELECTION OF WATER-CEMENT RATIO
From Fig. 1, the free water-cement ratio as per 456 0.4
Maximum Water Cement Ratio as per IS456
0.4
Adopted W/C ratio is 0.40 < 0.45 Hence OK
A-5 SELECTION OF WATER CONTENT
From Table 4, water content = 186 kg (for 50 mm
186 kgs
slump) for 20 mm aggregate.
Estimated water content for 100 mm slum
186+(186*6/100) 197 kgs
If SP( 0.60%) is added, the water content can be reduced up 161.671
to 13% and above 162 kgs

A-6 CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT

Water-cement ratio 0.4
Cement content 404.178 404 kgs
Proposed cement Content 404 kgs
as Per IS 456 -2000 Minimum cement Required for M-45 :400 Kg/m3
425>400 Hence ok
Admixture 0.6 % 2.425
A-7 PROPORTION OF VOLUME OF COARSE AGGREGATE AND FINE AGGREGETE
CONTENT
From Table 5,of IS 10262-2019 volume of coarse aggregate correspondingto 20 mm size aggregate and fine aggregate (Zone II) 0.62

(at the rate of ± 0.01 for every ± 0.05 change in watercement ratio) of volume of coarse aggregate is to be increased

(0.5-0.4)/0.05=2.0 (2.0*0.01 ) = 0.62 +0.02 = 0.64

For pumpable concrete C.A can be reduced upto 10% (Considered (9%) ,Net Vol of Coarse Aggregate
percentage) [0.64*(9/100) = 0.582

Therefore Volume of Coarse Aggregate is 0.582

from above information volume of Fine aggregate is 0.418
