girlfriend at that time, the model Pattie Boyd. In wonderful = very good, fantastic
1988, he sang the song at a 70th birthday tribute you don’t realize = you don’t know
for South African president, Nelson Mandela. I’ve got an aching head = my head hurts
“my darling” = something you can call a person you love
