PROFESSIONAL/TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS DEVELOPED- WHAT DID YOU FIND MOST
USEFUL AND WHY (35 marks)

The Thomson Reuters Portfolio Management workshop was a three

week-long stimulation game. In his we were given virtual money of
Rs.10 crores and were asked to invest it in the market to earn the
maximum possible return. Through this game I learned the various
known-how’s of the stock market and trading and investing in the stock
market which I believe is crucial knowledge to have and will help me a
lot as I wish to make a career in Finance (Financial services and
securities).

To decide on where to invest the money and in what proportion we

needed to have a sound understanding of the market, the current
happenings around the globe, economics and business understanding
and the impact of all of these on the security that we would be
investing in. This has immensely increased my understanding of all the
above which has made be better able to understand, analyse and
communicate in this spectrum which I believe will aid me in excelling in
my field and give me a competitive edge. This has also fostered my
problem solving, analytical thinking and critical and data-based
decision-making skill as throughout this game were required to keep
aside our emotions and judgment and simply take decisions based on
the data and the information available to us.

While making decision to invest in the equity market our knowledge of

management theories played a huge as it was based on this
knowledge, we were able to decide the expected performance of the
given company and accordingly made the decision to invest in the
particular stock.

This was a team activity and we had ten people in our team. Through
this activity I learned to effectively function in a team setting and how to
collaboratively with other people even at times when we were facing
conflicting situations as all of us had a different opinion.

SELF-AWARENESS (15marks)

Through participating in this stimulation game, I realised that I have

strong teamwork ability because I was able to collaboratively work with
all the people in my team with ease even in conflicting situations, I also
noticed that I am a good listener, able to take constructive feedback,
strong work ethics, However, I felt that there was a scope of improving
my communication skills and I could learn to do better time
management and work on improving my commercial awareness as I
found this lacking at many instances in the course of these three
weeks.
In the course of this game I did display some amount of innovative and
problem-solving skills. However, I believe that I still have a lot of scope
of improvement so as to gain a competitive edge.
