I. Introduction

Google as the company used to do nothing but search is now becoming the

most used search engine worldwide with many other facilities introduced. On Sep.

1998, Stanford University and California state officially created Google Inc. [1]

For more than a decade, google has been trying to help people change the

way they work to more easily and efficiently, nowadays; work itself has been

transformed dramatically. In many companies, work is no longer a physical place

to go instead of meeting in an office and discussing issues, one can make his/her

home a workplace. [2] Google Docs has been introduced to be one of the most

useful applications regarding the matter.

Documents and spreadsheets can be created, edited and stored online. 

They can be accessible from any computer with internet access. Google Docs is

congruous with most presentation programs and word processor applications.

Clients can control who sees their work. Moreover, Google Docs is perfect for

distributing inside an endeavour, keeping up blogs or composing work for the

common public.

A significant aspect of Google Docs is that multiple authors can work

together in real time from different locations far away, they all can see the person

who made changes and when they did it. Documents can be stored both online

and on users’ computers, therefore, there is no risk of data loss. [3]

The rest of the report is organized as, Introduction as first section, table of

contents as second section, then in the third section tools used to even more

facilitate the use of Google Docs (i.e., Add ons) are covered, the conclusion is

mentioned in the last section and finally the references are presented. 

II. Google Docs Add-ons

A collection of formatting features. It provides over three hundred tools

that can be used to construct documents faster, proofread the text more easily. It

adds graphics, equations and signatures. Furthermore, it can publish a work in the

desired way [4]. In this report a number of add ons are explained that are mostly

useful for educational purposes.

HOW TO GET ADD ONS:

The main workspace is one of the google documents either google docs, sheets and

forms, in this report the framework is about Google Docs. So, a new or an already existing

document is opened, it can be seen in the upper left side of the screen the tool bar in

which Add-ons is one of the objects. Clicking on the Add-ons icon will view a box and

inside the box “Get add-ons” exists, then through that icon one can get any tool related to

his/her needs.

THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME EDUCATIONAL ADD-ONS:

A. EasyBib bibliography
One of the most obvious objects in educational area is writing papers, for this purpose

the most significant aspect to consider is the citation because it consumes quite amount of

time and it might be mistakenly written as well if manual configuration applies, while this

add-ons makes it quite easy, after getting the add-ons, one can manage it in order to

search for the source of information, the source can be in three types book, article and

web sites, after choosing the source type, the style of the citation has to be selected finally

the selected source will be added to the document by simply clicking on the icon refers to

the addition, thus obtaining the desired type of citation in an academic way.

B. Translate +
A very useful tool especially for foreigner students whose mother tongue is not the

English language. English language is considered as the main language used worldwide

specifically for academic purposes. One can easily select the information needed to be

translated and open the Translate+, after that choosing the language to be translated to

finally, the text appears in the desired language without requiring to go for a dictionary or

opening google translator.

C. MathType
Mostly in Engineering and the fields requiring mathematical calculations, this tool can

be used effectively and in a very simple way, when clicking on the MathType from the

Add-ons two options will appear, chem formula regarding chemical expression/formulas

and math equation referring to mathematical calculations. The desired format will be

chosen according to the area of study, after opening the MathType from Add-ons a new

box pops up in which the equation or formula is written in a scientific way.

D. Plagium
The most important aspect needs to be considered in writing any sort of writings,

especially academic papers, is the awareness of not using the same text of another relevant

paper or simply not copying information from a source and putting it in one’s own

writing. Though efforts are made in order to paraphrase or use other words from one’s

understanding, however, an amount of plagiarism might be detected and in order to

overcome that issue, one must refer to tools for detecting the plagiarism. Plagium in the

other hand makes this quite simple by selecting a paragraph or few paragraphs (does not

apply for too many word counts, but it can be repeated as much as needed) and opening

the plagium from Add-ons then clicking on check selection, finally it will process the

check and it might take few seconds, then it will tell you the amount of plagiarism used, it

is better to have none plagiarism.

III. Summery

To sum up, Google offers quite a lot of facilities in order to make every matter

regarding our lives easier. In this report light has been shed on the uses of google

applications in the academic version specifically during the pandemic Google

applications such as gmail, google classroom, zoom, etc. have played a high role in

succeeding the period.

Google Docs application is taken into account for this report, the facilities it

provides is mentioned with the tools making the process even easier, some tools

with respect to Add-ons has been presented such as; Easybib bibliography,

Translate+, MathType and plagium.

One should be concerned about the use of the google applications especially

for the ones who work in academic areas, in order to be updated relating to the

scientific evolution. As well as for the many facilities the applications furnish.
