Through this subject, I was able to express

myself by writing and making literary works

especially with the tasks that we needed to create. It
helped me rekindle with our country’s history,
culture, customs, lessons and pieces that shaped
and built what we have today. Also, through our
activities, I was able to explore more of our past, and
realize its relevance to our today and the future.

What struck me most, is that with literature- a

story, thought, idea or sometimes the person
behind it, is able to resonate within the present
times, despite its ancient beginnings. Sometimes,
remembering the past provides a way to how we
can make better the life ahead of us, especially
those situations that have made a mark to our
country’s history.
Literature contains information necessary to the
enhancement of skills that I must possess in order
for them to achieve their dream careers.. The
presence of the internet and social media has paved
the way for an easier access to information which has
benefitted an engineering student like me to further
nourish the knowledge of different concepts that I
have by the unlimited number of sources that can be
found online. With the use of literature, I can also
enhance my vocabulary and communication skills
which can help me gain the trust of possible clients
or reach more people, especially the people who
needs the skills of an engineer.

With the presence of different information available

for consumption, the ability to comprehend texts and
messages that presents the truth is a gem that is
rarely seen nowadays. Through the literary works we
have encountered, I was able to practice this, while
exercising my ability to express how I feel about the
themes that were discussed.

IS/CHARACTERIZES, WRITE IT DOWN AND EXPLAIN IN 60 -100 WORDS.

Literature serves to relay thoughts, ideas, and a nation’s culture to whoever can
consume it. Using the word ‘consume’ in my description stems from what has been
pointed out as barriers to studying literature in the video. These hindrances include
language used and its varying levels of comprehension, the presence of common
ground in the experiences of the author and the reader, and the standards used to
effectively convey what is needed to be conveyed.

2. WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF LITERATURE?

Expound in detail. In general, literature is divided according to how it is delivered:

written or spoken. Those that are written in sentences and paragraphs belong to

Under prose are:

• Novels. It is presented as a long narrative and divided into chapters from
true-to-life stories.
• Short stories. A narrative of at least a character, with one plot and

• Plays. A narrative based on fiction presented on a stage, divided into acts,
and scenes compose the acts
• Legends. Fictitious stories of origins.

children to learn ‘life lessons from.

3. PAANO MAKATUTULONG ANG PANITIKAN SA PAGPAPAUNLAD NG IYON

PROPESYON? (200 WORDS)

buhay mapa personal hanggang propesyonal.

An essay is, generally, a piece of writing that gives the author's own argument, but
the definition is vague, overlapping with those of a letter, a paper, an article, a
pamphlet, and a short story. Essays have traditionally been sub-classified as formal
and informal. Formal essays are characterized by "serious purpose, dignity, logical
organization, length," whereas the informal essay is characterized by "the personal
element (self-revelation, individual tastes and experiences, confidential manner),
humor, graceful style, rambling structure, unconventionality or novelty of theme. Etc

For olw 2, you are to make your own essay. I’ll give you freedom as to the topic that
you want to make/use. For some students they get ides from the internet, this will be
okay, but PLAGIARSIM is a no-no in my class. AS A LANGUAGE TEACHER, I
KNOW WHAT WORK IS PLAGIARIZED OR NOT, DO NOT COPY PASTE FROM
THE INTERNET. Having said this, I don’t expect your output especially with the
grammar to be perfect. I want your own words, not words from the internet. The word
count should range from 500-600 (words). You can make a title of your own, and I’ll
give you freedom with your styles.

You can discuss relevant topics like pandemic, vaccines, health, global warming,
depression, etc.

Please submit your output to your class rep on or before Feb 20 , 2022 11:59 pm, I

Unti-unti kong napagtanto kung gaano kalaki and aking pagkukulang at

-Siguro’y may kaunting dungawan upang makita labas

natin nauunawaan.

Spoken poetry
What Is Spoken Word Poetry?
Spoken word poetry is a performance art that transcends the written form. If
you’ve ever watched slam poetry or a dramatic monologue at an open mic night, the
intense, emotional delivery may have stayed with you long after it was over. This is
the power of spoken word poetry, and it’s meant to be memorable.
Similarly, Spoken word poetry is a word-based performance art where
speakers engage in powerful self-expression by sharing their views on particular
topics for a live audience, focusing on sound and presentation. Spoken word
performances require memorization, performative body language (like gestures and
facial expressions), enunciation, and eye contact with viewers.
Spoken word poetry is a form of poetry that doesn’t have to rhyme, but
certain parts can be rhymed to emphasize an image or give it a lyrical quality.
Spoken word poems will sometimes contain elements of hip-hop, folk music, or jazz
to enhance the rhythmic presentation.

How to Write Spoken Word Poetry

Writing spoken word poetry takes both skill and an ability to express emotion through
written words spoken aloud. If you’re looking to create your own spoken-word piece,
check out the following tips for writing this passionate oral art form:
1. Pick a topic you’re passionate about. Spoken word performances are filled with
emotion, so before you even start writing, make sure the subject you’re tackling
is something you feel strongly about or can generate a lot of feelings toward.
Spoken word poems can cover topics—however, there is usually a central
focus to broader topics. For example, the topic of “family” might delve into how
your grandmother inspired you, or how a close relationship with a cousin
shaped you, or how your favorite teacher became like a parental figure to you.
Spoken word poetry can also cover life experiences, like growing up in a
broken home, or it can answer a personal question about yourself, like “What
are you most afraid of?” It could be a unique perspective on social justice, the
first time you experienced a broken heart, or a memory that’s stayed with you
after all these years.

2. Write the gateway line. The gateway line is like your poem’s thesis—it lets the
audience know what you’re going to be talking about. While your first line prepares
viewers for your subject matter, the rest of the poem should be spent reinforcing,
supporting, and expanding on that initial idea.

3. Focus on sensory details. You want the audience to be put right in the scene
you’re verbally crafting for them, and the best way to do that is to write vividly. Write
what you want the Focus on sensory details. You want the audience to be put right in the
scene you’re verbally crafting for them, and the best way to do that is to write vividly. Write
what you want the audience to be seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, and smelling throughout
your entire piece, and use literary devices like metaphors or similes to create comparisons.
You’re not just memorizing a poem to read back to people, you’re trying to immerse them into
your world, if only for a moment. Vivid descriptions will create impactful, memorable images,
which is exactly what you want when writing performance poetry.

4. Use repetition and wordplay. Repeating certain lines or words in a piece can emphasize an
image or idea for your audience. Repeated lines have staying power in a person’s mind and are
effective in getting them to remember particular scenes. Wordplay is also used often, crafting
a clever mix of pictures, feelings, and sounds for those watching and listening. Including some
of this in your writing can give your poem a more sophisticated or creative feel.

5. Make it sound good. Spoken word poetry is written to be read aloud, so the way the poem
itself sounds is just as important as the content of the written words. Poetic devices like
onomatopoeia, alliteration, and assonance are ways to introduce a more rhythmic feel to the
words you write. A rhyme scheme isn’t necessary, but rhyming particular words or lines
together can enhance your message or story when used properly.

6. Set your poem aside for a while, then revise it. Sometimes when you get caught up in the
emotion of writing a passionate piece, you realize there are things you could have said better.
Walking away from the first draft of your poem can help you collect your feelings and revisit
your work with fresh eyes, allowing any new thoughts, clarifications, or emotions regarding
your topic to further shape how you deliver your piece.

7. Watch others perform. You can get a better feel for rhythm, structure, and cadence
when you hear experienced spoken word artists do it. Watch some of the best
spoken word poetry either live or on the internet to understand how to craft great
lines with impact. Pay attention to how they use their space and the language they
use—it may inspire you to approach your own creative writing more boldly. Give your
best with emotions in the performance.

8. End with an image. Your conclusion should wrap up your story for the audience, or
leave them with a lingering thought or feeling. It could be one of hope, it could be one
of pain, it could be one of a lesson learned—however you decide to conclude your
piece, it should tie in with the message of the poem as a whole. What should viewers
take away from this performance? What should they know about you after watching?
You don’t need a neat ending, but you do need one that creates a lasting impression

Your task

Maximo Ramos uses poetry to express his thoughts as regards youthfulness

and the resilience tey embody. That gives empowerment to latter despite the
seemingly mountains of challenges they face recently.

In literature, the mode of delivery varies. As a matter of fact, as the literature

evolves, artistic ways of presentation become a trend especially that poetry
encapsulates emotions and feelings.

You are to perform/ present a spoken poetry via video presentation. I will give
you prerogative with regard to the topic of your choice. But please read first the
guidelines above in making a spoken poetry that you may be guided. It should be
interesting, engaging, and artistic.

It may not be so long. You SHOULD have 2-7 minute minimum-maximum

duration for the video. It must be original piece, not coming from the internet. You
may integrate technology, audio, and animation, and you may even put subtitles if
you like. I know you are good at such. Similarly, there must be portion in the video
where I can see you perform the actual task. It may be half-body size or it totally
depends on you as long as I can see you doing it.

Please note:

I notice that few of the students didn’t have an entry even one yet. Be it noted that I
am monitoring the progress. I have my class record (hard copy), and every week, I
enter grade based on the olw you have submitted. I can still accept late submission,
but please don’t submit all of that towards the end of the semester in one submission
(this is an abuse of grace). Help yourself to cope with demands of the academe, so I
am giving you the grace of accepting late submission.

Each presenter should get ready, if the assigned discussants are not available, we will
not waste time, then we go to the next topic.

Some are not following instructions with regard to olw submission. It must be
continuous; you must not submit to me separate olws. For instance, when you submit
olw 4, I should view in one file olws 1-4. I hope this is clear. Instructions are very
important.

---------

Choose a story from regions 1 to 5 as your subject for the olw. Only 1 story

Give me a brief synopsis (original, based on your understanding) of the story of

your choice (not more than 200 words)

You are to make a reflection paper (700-900 words, indicate the word count) with
regard to the hero you have chosen. Please follow the conventions through this link :
https://www.iirp.edu/pdf/IIRP-Reflection-Tip_Sheet.pdf

Moreover, this is how you write your reflection paper. Strictly follow the parts in writing
such. Copy the boldfaced phrases for me to determine whether or not you follow the
steps.

First Impressions: The Introduction

The personal nature of a reflection essay doesn't give you license to just slap some
thoughts on paper. Just like any academic assignment, you still need a clear
introduction and thesis statement. One good approach to an introduction is to describe
your initial attitude and expectations for the reading or experience. You may have not
looked forward to attending a history lecture because you assumed it would be boring,
or the length of a reading assignment might have intimidated you at first. These first
impressions provide an effective lead-in to what you actually learned and gained from
the experience.

Finding the Theme: Thesis Statement

Just as works of literature stem from unifying central ideas, your reflection paper
should have a core theme that's developed in your thesis statement. If your paper is
about writing your final English composition essay, your theme might be how it taught
you to overcome the challenges of research and writing. Your thesis statement, then,
might read, "Writing my research paper has taught me to search for accurate sources,
to use evidence to back up my points, and to give due importance to revision." By the
time readers finish your essay, they should have a clear understanding of what
specific new knowledge you've gained.

Building the Body: Experiential Evidence

As you elaborate on your thesis in the body paragraphs, don't speak in generalities
about your experience. Use specific examples to demonstrate how you've reached
your conclusions. In a reflection paper on a reading assignment, for example, you
might use direct quotes from the article or book to back up your observations. If you're
writing a reflection on a class project or essay, you might give examples from the
paper itself or describe particular challenges and victories you faced. Clearly
illustrating your topic with examples will help readers see the significance of the
experience and what you learned.

Applying What You've Learned: Conclusions

Just as your introduction explores your initial impressions of the assignment or

experience, your conclusion should summarize for readers how you plan to use the
new knowledge you've gained and how it applies to your life. If you're a chemistry
major, for example, the persistence of writing multiple drafts of a research paper could
be useful when it comes to the trial-and-error element of science experiments. A
reading assignment about the civil rights movement might have broadened your view
of the importance of gender and racial equality. Your conclusion should leave
audiences with a clear statement of your experience's value to your life.

Summary of the Wedding Dance

A couple named Awiyao and Lumnay, who has recently separated
met on their former house and talked about how they feel with each other on
the night of Awiyao’s ceremony to his new wife. This wedding is due to the
fact that Awiyao wants to bear a child which was not possible during his time
with Lumnay. He invited Awiyao to dance on the dance floor in an attempt to
console her and allowed her to meet another man however, she refused to
do so as her heart still beats only for him. They both feel the same with each
other, nonetheless they chose to accept and follow their tribe’s tradition. In
the end, Awiyao went back to his wedding while Lumnay was left all-alone.
Reflection on the Wedding Dance
Ever since, I have observed how we Filipinos tend to be critical on
following pre-existing traditions and beliefs. This as one of the main points I
have picked up from the story, triggers something inside me. Their legality as
man and wife was destroyed because Awiyao chose to stand by what their
community dictates- that a man should have someone that will continue his
name despite knowing in himself that he will only love Lumnay. The tone of
their conversation, especially that of Awiyao’s, gives me a feeling that even if
it was explicitly implied, that their feelings towards each other is strong, he is
attempting to control Lumnay by pushing her to participate in the dance to
lure any other potential suitors. However, I also think it is just his way of him
alleviating the guilt he feels of the situation he is in – or maybe that he indeed
means to let her find someone that will fill his spot on Lumnay’s life. In today’s
time, I think that their situation, is somewhat rare, as we try to become more
understanding of the conditions in our society. Although words from people
near to childless couples, may it be by choice or not, is unavoidable, others or
atleast more, try to be more sensitive with how they approach these situations.
In an opposite light, the story may seem to represent how love means
sacrifice. Lumnay made the decision to let Awiyao go in order for him to fulfill
his desire to become a father, even if it means the end of their marriage. On
this part of the story, it reminds me how sometimes, society expect females, to
be fine with every decision, a man does that he thinks will be of benefit to him.
Wives are seen as someone behind their husbands, that will always be ready
to serve them in any purpose they would like, and in this case, be left out
because the man fears the judgment of his community of their unability as a

couple to produce an offspring. This makes me feel bad, as it was

stated in the story that she has made a lot of offerings and sacrifices already
on her side, attempting to please their god to let her bear a child. It seems
that what she felt was swept under the rags, with the story highlighting just
how Awiyao choose to follow what has been instilled in their culture.
It was also stated that in the case, that he and his new wife will still be
unable to make children, he will go back to Lumnay, and they will end their
lives together. This makes me think of even how simple lives were during the
early times, the problem is more of how people try to satisfy the expectations
of the community they are surrounded with. Somehow, I am relieved that in
the modern times, people are able to express themselves more freely and are
able to choose to break free from the strict beliefs and traditions. On my side, I
feel that Lumnay was taken for granted for a long time- and I cannot see how
Awiyao “showed” his part too. The thought of being able to marry someone
else, knowing that you still love another person, is distasteful in my eyes. It
appears to me that the story represents how a man can get away with doing
such a thing without receiving flak, and somehow the women involved are
expected to just accept whatever is left from the decision he chose to make.
It was mentioned in the story that Lumnay was having thoughts of
trying to fight for their love, by attempting to speak up in this husband’s
ceremony, however, I feel discomfort for I do not understand how and why
she is always the one who yields for the the both of them. I found Awiyao to
have a weak character and selfish for this reason. In my perspective, he was
all words without taking any action to fight for their relationship.
Overall, I think the story can be related to the theme of forbidden love
just because, one party chose to leave his partner despite the “unending
love” he feels for her and enter another relationship that he feels nothing for.
This, still persists today, and most of the time is dangerous since it could cause
more damage if children are involved.
