ADMISSION AGAINST RESERVED SEATS IN MEDICAL/ DENTAL COLLEGE

DURING 2004-2005 NOTES FOR GUIDANCE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE


SELECTION COMMITTEE

The central selection committee of the ministry of health is concerned with the selection
of candidates falling under the following categories against the government of India reserved
seats in the different medical colleges or the country

1. (a) Sons/daughters of deceased/disabled ex-service man and serving personnel of the


armed force
(b) Widows/ wives of deceased/ disabled armed forces personnel.
2. Repatriate from Burma, Sril Lanka, Uganda, Zaira and Vietnam ( Only these
children who have arrived during last five years )
3. Children of deceased /disabled/ ex servicemen / serving personnel of SSB /
Cabinet secretariat.
4. Children of deceased / disabled / ex – servicemen / serving personnel of BSF/
CRPF/ Assam Rifles and ITBP under Ministry of Home Affairs.

The inters priorities within the category of deceased / disabled mentioned at 1 (a) and (b)
above in case of Defence personnel are as follows :-

i) Children / widows of those killed in action.


ii) Children / wives those disabled in action.

For categories 3 & 4 ( SSB, CRPF, Assam Rifle, ITBP ) the cases of children of serving
personnel are also considered.

The applications in respect of category No.01 are routed through the ministry of
Defence ( Kendriya Sainik Board ) for category No 02 through ministry of Home Affairs
Rehabilitation division. In respect of categories 3 & 4 the application are routed through Dte of
SSB Cabinet Secretariat and Ministry of Home Affairs.

i) The Application received direct by this directorate will not be considered.

ii) The allocation of seats as well as statement of particulars of candidates for the above
categories during the present year will be furnished to the members of the central
selection committee at the time of the meeting.

iii) The basis of selection in merit, which is determined by the marks obtained by the
candidate in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the qualifying examinations.
They must have secured aggregate of 50 % of marks in English, Physics, Chemistry
and Biology.

The following criteria for determining merit for selecting candidates for MBBS/ BDS
courses has been devised.

a) In the matter of selection 80 % weight age is given to the result of pre medical or
intermediate science or Bsc (part of equivalent qualifying examination, 10% weight age
of the result of matriculation or school leaving examination and 10% weight age on the
result of Bsc (first division).
b) Where as candidate has passed only qualifying examination then 80% weight age on the
basis of qualifying examination and 20 % to that of matriculation or school leaving
examination. However where there is no matriculation examination the higher
secondary examination marks are considered for this purpose.

iv) For a candidate who has passed the qualifying examination in the 2-nd attempt, 2 % of
Marks of the total aggregate should be deducted in the determining his eligibility.

v) The candidate who has passed qualifying examination more than 02 attempts should not
be normally considered suitable for medical studies.

vi) The candidate applying on the mark basis of their guardians surviving in military may
not be eligible for consideration for admission against seats reserved for military
category under which the seats are intended for sons / daughters of diseased / disabled
etc personnel of the armed forces. This equally applies to other categories also.

Note : In respect of causalities in war / war .like operations and while in service. Only widows

deceased after retirement but not those who have been reemployed in the armed forces in any
rank.
