CLU'S PLANNING FROM 1990 TO THE NOW

Changes in senior administrative and academic leadership occurred at CLU in the early and

mid-1990s. The President, Vice Presidents for Finance, Institutional Advancement, and

Student Life, and the Deans for the (then just created) professional schools of Business and

Education were all appointed from outside the institution. People promoted from within the

CLU faculty, like the Provost and the Dean of Arts and Sciences, have filled the other

significant positions. As a result of normal "term limits" and election regulations, both the

governing board and faculty governance system had to be restructured.

There was little institutional planning in place at CLU prior to these alterations. At this

important point, the importance of planning and the need to incorporate the new leadership

within the CLU community became clear. This chance was not only to build short and long-

term plans for the institution, but also to involve the institution's important stakeholders in the

entire strategic planning process.
