GIVEN
A n sided polyparab which has all its points on the circle.
The polparab is enclosed by equal parabola segments as shown in the figure.

REQUIRED 1 3
• Area of a circle with a unit radius
• The value of π
4 O(0,0) 5
• Compute the error in the approximation
• Determine the minimum no. of sides required to
bring the error below 1.0e-6

SOLUTION
Let us assume n number of parabolas which make n number of sectors of a circle.
An angle inscribed by each sector can be found using
Ø = 360/n i.e < 1O2=360/n
From 1O2 the angle is Ø/2 …. Let Ø/2 = Ω. then Ω=180/n
Now take out the triangle OAD and calculate the dimension of each side.

Y= Cos Ω 1
X= Sin Ω
Ω=180/n

X
Here we have two similar triangles 1O4 and O25
DIMENSIONS
14 = cos Ω = 25
4O= -sin Ω and O5= sin Ω
O3= Radius= 1
From the above dimensions we found the coordinates of the three points
of the parabola which lie on the circle.
1(-sin Ω,Cos Ω) 2(sin Ω, Cos Ω) 3(0,1)
Now using the above points determine the equation of the parabola
which has the general equation of
Y= ax²+bx+c
Substituting each coordinate to the equation we will find simultaneous
equation which is useful to find the constants a and b.
For point 1 we have Cos Ω = a (-Sin Ω) ²+ b Sin Ω + c
For point 2 Cos Ω = a (Sin Ω) ²+ b Sin Ω + c
Equating the simultaneous equation, we found
a = Cos Ω - 1 b=0 c=1
sin² Ω

then substitute the above values to the general equation

Y = Cos Ω -1 * (x² + 1)
sin² Ω
the total area under the shaded area is given by
A= ∫y dx – 2 area of (∆1O4 OR ∆O25) *n
Where n=N-3 N=15 Roll no
∫ Cos Ω -1 x² + 1 – 2*0.5*Cos Ω*Sin Ω *n
sin² Ω
Sin Ω
1/3*(Cos Ω -1)* x ³+ x – Cos Ω sin Ω *n
-Sin Ω

1/3* (Cos Ω -1)* (Sin Ω ) ³ - (Cos Ω -1)* (-Sin Ω ) ³ + Sin Ω−(-Sin Ω )- Cos Ωsin Ω *n
Sin² Ω Sin² Ω

A= 2/3*( Cos Ω -1)Sin Ω + 2sin Ω- Cos ΩsinΩ*n

This is the total area for a unit radius of a circle.

So for the assignment case n=N-3=12
Now calculate the value of …… Ω =180/12 = 15

Now substitute the above values to the area equation

A= 2 /3*( Cos15 -1)Sin15 +2sin15 -Cos 15sin15)* 12
A=3.141104722
Area of circle is A=𝝅r² here r=1 then A=𝝅
Π=3.141104722 ………………..ANS
