Abstract:

The wearable healthcare in ubiquitous computing age is a new personalized medical

paradigm in the future. It will play a significant role in illness prevention, early diagnosis or
effective treatment, which can bring considerable benefits to the individual and society. This
paper presents a conceptual model of pervasive wearable healthcare system and discusses
the key technology. According to the current technology status, an application mode and a
prototype of pervasive healthcare services is given. The research direction of the software
and hardware is also indicated in the end.

I. Introduction

The development of computing technology is accompanied with the adaptive computing

mode: in the mainframe computer era, multi-users share a single computer(N:1); in the
personal computer(PC) era, one person possesses one computer(1:1); in the post-PC
era(ubiquitous computing), multi-users utilize multi-computing devices(N:M). The idea
of ubiquitous computing originated from Mark Weiser[1] in 1991. It emphasizes the fact
that computers are embedded into the environment or common tools so as to make them
invisible from the user's sight. The attention of people focuses on the task itself which
embodies the thinking of human-centric computing and information accessing at any time
or any place. Along with the continuous promotion of computer hardware, software
infrastructure, network and human-machine interaction technology, the advent of
ubiquitous computing age becomes possible.
