ENERGY SAVINGS BY AVOIDING THE ELEVATOR FOR TRAVELING ONLY ONE FLOOR
The below given times are measured
 Considering that the passenger starts from the point exactly between the staircase and the elevator.
 Considering the elevator is on the same floor itself.

Motor Capacity (Power) : 5.5 HP ( 4.1 kW )
Speed of the car : 1 m/s (variable drive )
Passenger Capacity : 544 kg ( 8 persons )

Time records
Considering speed of the car of 1m/s, it must take approx. 3.5 sec for the car to travel one floor ( going up
or down ).

Time to reach one floor either up or down by the elevator : 25 sec. (by average of 3 sample readings)
Time to reach one floor up by using staircase : 24 sec ( by average of 10 sample readings )
Time to reach one floor down by using staircase : 22 sec (by average of 10 sample readings)

We do save time by 1 - 3 seconds just by avoiding elevator for traveling one floor (up or down)
Climbing up or down the stairs is always quicker than using an elevator for travelling one floor

Savings if we avoid elevators for travelling one floor.

Power = 4.1 kW = 4100 Watt

If we use the elevator for 25 sec (0.007 hrs) it will consume 4.1 x 0.007 = 0.0287 kW.hr = 0.0287 units

Assuming the rate of 1 unit ( 1 kW.hr ) as approx. Rs. 7 - 10. (avg Rs. 8.5/-)

The cost of traveling one floor = 0.0287units x Rs.8.5/unit

The cost of traveling one floor = Rs. 0.24395

Assuming the elevator car is continuously operating between 8.30 AM to 4 PM (7.5hrs) with atleast 20 rides
of single floor travel (this is the minimum most numbers as there would be more than 80 rides from
basement to fifth floor). Thus in a day there would be 7.5 x 20 = 150 single floor rides.

The total cost of traveling one floor in a day = Rs. 0.24395 x 150
The total cost of traveling one floor in a day = Rs. 36.5925

Cost of travelling one floor in a year : Rs. 13,356/-

Energy saved in 1 year : 436 units (approx.)

Use the staircase and save a few seconds and also save energy and reduce the
budget as well.
