1.0 Introduction to the event.

We are HSC students doing travel and tourism at principal level. As part of our syllabus, we are
required to conduct a real event. This event forms part of our Cambridge paper 2 examinations a
project coursework will be carried out where a real event has to be made with the help of
teammates where we will be working in a team. In my group there are five members including
myself.
We had to choose a topic on which type of tourism our project will be based on the options
were:
Adventure tourism.
Eco tourism.
Guided tour.
Cultural tourism.
After conducting a group meetings with the team members we all decided to opt for adventure
tourism taking as a challenge for ourselves.

1.1 Introduction to adventure tourism.

Adventure tourism can be defined as a type of tourism involving the travel to remote or
exotic places in order to take part in physically challenging outdoor activities this type of
tourism helps tourist to partake in activities out of their comfort zone. An example of
adventure tourism activities can be : skydiving , snowboarding , quad biking and many
more…

1.8.6SMART analysis

-Specific

The option above is mainly adventure tourism it requires a lot of physical effort and will give the
participants a chance to see nature for what it is being features of adventure tourism. Moreover this
type of activity demands a lot of andrenaline.

-Measurable

A survey will be carried out at school to see how many students are willing to do mountain climbing
as such we will have an idea the number of participants we will have for the event.

-Achievable

With the help of teamwork we will bring together our knowledge and experience so that both
members and participanrts will be able to enjoy the event.

-Relevant

The objectives set should meet our aims as such we decided to charge a price that the participants

-Time

The event should be set within a specific time frame with a duration of a number of hours that is not
tiring for the participants and will end at a time where all students will get sometime to rest a bit.

1.8.7Needs and wants

Participants will be expecting a tour guide with skills as the climb can be harsh and the guide may
provide us with guidance as a small mistake may be dangerous during the climb. They will also
expect that the members have prepared foo and beverages for the event as the climb may take time
and be tiring a long bottle of water will be given to them as they may get dehydrated they will be
provided with all equipment needed and at the end of the climb fresh towels will be given to them
to refresh themselves.

1.8.8Potential barriers

A lockdown may be a barriers as if there is a lockdown during the week of the event it will need to
be postponed and set on another date. Bad weather can also cause problem for the event in case
there is rain the climb will be cancelled as the track will become slippery as such making it
dangerous. The tour guide may also fall ill as such leaving us no one to guide us through the climb.

1.9Third option-Ds Adventurers quad biking

It is a destination located at Trois Boutique. It offers activity like quad biking for tourist looking for
opportunities to embark themselves on a thrilling ride and create unforgettable memories by visiting
spectacular sites.

-Strengths

The guides at Ds Adventurers have 10 years of experience as such we will receive proper guidance
and minimising the risk of collision even if on the day of the event there is rain it will not affect us
wether it will make it more enthusiastic for us.

-Weaknesses

Participants may collide with each other while riding or they might have little knowledge on how to
operate the quad because of which they may go off track and also there maybe quad breakdown.
The packages prices are also expensive.

-Opportunities

This will provide our participants with a new experience and they will be able to view the captivating
along the south coast of Mauritius.

-Threats

If there is an increase in the level of covid cases the local government may close down all attractions
in order to prevent the virus from spreading. In case of bad climatic conditions such as a cyclone this
cause the event to be cancelled or postponed as such the event will not take place.

1.9.6SMART analysis

-Specific

Our goals set are clear and specific. For the activity we have chosen we will need good and reliable
quads and discuss with the guide about which track will be more suitable for a group of students.

-Measurable

A survey will be carried out as to be able to know how much students are willing to take part in quad
biking as such making it easier for us to measure our progress and keep on working to achieve our
needed budget.

-Achievable
In order to get more participants a reasonable price will be given to the students so as to encourage
them to participate. The price set will make it look more realistic and attainable, with the help of
teamwork we will gather more information so as to make this event successful.

-Relevant

This will allow us to identify if the project corresponds to our need and efforts made, in an economy
where the pandemic covid-19 has greatly affected the island.

-Time

A date we will decided on which the event will take place this feature of the analysis we help us plan
our work so that we have a deadline to meet.

1.9.7Needs and wants of customers

With the help of a tour guide we will provide the participants with an experience to remember and
also will help us minimise the risks of injuries and accidents. Safety equipment will be given
to participants so as reduce risks of an injury, food and beverages will also be given to the
participants and we will ensure that everyone has the chance to ride a quad.

1.9.8Potential barriers

Our main issue can be a possible lockdown and the closure of attractions causing a delay in our
event and as such we will need to look for another date. Furthermore if on the day of the
event there is heavy rainfall it may be dangerous for the students to ride a quad as such
causing the event to delay.

1.9.9Our chosen event

After having discussed with all the team members we chose Ds Adventurers quad biking as our final
project. Our arguments as to which we have chosen this event is because it will be safe fot
the participants to participate in under professional guidance of a tour guide. The other 2
events have major weaknesses which can be problematic for our coursework. Moreover
after considering our forecasted budget the other 2 events would have cause a loss
compared to the our chosen event, the surplus obtain can be used to organise more
necessities for the event and making the participants have a memorable time during the
event.

Chapter 2
2.1Team structure

A team structure can be defined as an organisational structure based on team working towards a
similar goal while doing their individual task. They have a flexible structure that helps in problem
solving, decision making and teamwork.
https://www.slidegeeks.com/business/product/organizational-structure-template-2-ppt-
powerpoint-presentation-model-design-inspiration

2.2Purpose of teamwork
https://bohatala.com/what-is-teamwork-what-is-teamwork-review/

1. Team work gives help the members in supporting each other teamwork helps the members in
achieving their goals within their timeframe and increases efficiency. For instance, if one member
did not complete their task the others may help by doing the task together. Moreover the work is
divided as such they are done quickly helping in achieving the final objective. The team will also
develop a sense of comradery.

2. Teamwork makes problem solving easy. If ever there is a problem affecting the team all the
members will come together to look for a possible solution. The team members may all discuss
about their different ideas and as such choose the best one to solve the problem.

3. team work helps build morale. teamwork will help boost confidence and members will feel that
they are valued in the team. Each member member has something unique to bring in the team. They
will have a sense of belonging and committed to each other and their common goal.

2.3 Tuckman model

The forming, storming, norming, performing, model of group development was proposed by Bruce
Tuckman in 1965. Who said that these phases are all necessary and inevitable in order for a team to
grow and face up to its challenges find solutions plan work and deliver results. He knew this phases
were important to team growth and development, he hypothesized that along with these factors
that interpersonal relationships and task activity would enhance the four stage model that is needed
to successfully navigate and create an effective group function.

1. Forming.
The team meets and learns about the opportunities and challenges and then agrees on goals
and begins to tackle the task. They may be motivated but usually uninformed of the team
objectives, team members who are mature enough have an appropriate behaviour even at
the start. The surroundings and environment where meetings are held also have an effect on
the members behaviour. Members attempt to orient themselves to tasks as well as each
other. This stage helps members test their boundaries, create rules and set organizational
standards. Discussion are made on how to carry out tasks and similar concerns. Members
should come out of their comfort zone and give their ideas even if there is a conflict
possibility.

2. Norming
Solving disagreements and conflicts in the team leads better understanding among team
members. This takes place because of competition and all the members share a common
goal. In this stage all team members want to achieve the goals set and takes their own
responsibilities, they slowly start to get acquainted with the others members method of
working and make an effort to match their energy level. The only drawback is that in trying
to avoid conflicts other members will not share ideas that may be good in fear of conflicts.

3. Performing
Each group members will be given roles and there are rules that are going to be set up as
such helping members achieving common goals often having a higher level of success. By
this time they will obtain more knowledge and more motivation as such they will now be
able to take decision without supervision. The most important decision will be taken by the
team and will revert to earlier stages in certain circumstances. If the team leader changes
the team will revert to storming and the new leader will have different norms and aims.

2.2.2 Leadership style

A leadership style can be defined as the features a leader possesses when motivating,
guiding, and managing a group of people. People with leadership skills may inspire social
changes and political movement and also empowering people to create and innovate.
1. Autocratic leadership style.
This type of leadership style is when the leader is the one making all the decisions and
keeps all the power to himself. He will be the one giving out orders, assigning posts and
tasks without the opinion of the workers. The leader will take full authority and
responsibility, however this leadership style has negative impacts. People working under
the leader acts as he directs them, the leader neither care about their opinions nor
involves them in decision making. This leadership style consists of close supervision and
carrying the order of the superior. It facilitates quick decision making, sense of guidance
and quick actions. The level of a delegation is really small likely to result in disputes
within the team or organization. Moreover employees will not be able to work at their
maximum capacity.
2. Democratic leadership style.
The democratic leadership style is more of a decentralise authority. The leader involves
his workers in decision making and encourages participation when planning or the set up
of policies. This type of leadership style encourages workers by using persuasion rather
than imposing force. Recent research have shown that the involvement of workers in
decision making tend to be more beneficial. Delegation of tasks will also create
motivation among the employees making them feel valued. This type of leadership style
favours an organization as there is more efficiency, improved morale level and low
absenteeism rate.
3. The laisser-faire leadership style.
This leadership style can be described as workers are free to do what they want, in other
words the leader will assign each worker with responsibilities and they will be the one to
take decision. The leader lets the workers choose in what way they will accomplish the
listed objectives and solve any difficulties in achieving them. When each member of the
team is put forth he will give his best in achieving the goals and as such better results
may be obtained. However this type of leadership style may cause unforeseen problems
in the long run.
4. Paternalistic leadership style.
In this type of leadership the leader is seen as a father figure. The relationship between
the leader and the team is the same as in a family and its members, the leader will give
the team members a sense of guidance and will provide them with good working
conditions and fringe benefits, however this type of leadership will be uneffective with
