BRIEF INTRODUCTION

C Major Scale is the pattern for all Majors. It is one of the easiest scales
to play on the keyboard because it is constructed using only natural keys on the
keyboard. Natural keys are the white keys that are located on the keyboard of a
piano, organ or any other similar keyboard instruments. It has no sharp and
flat. Its first note is do which is the home tone.
The letters that make up this major scale are C D E F G A B C. This scale
begins and ends with C because a major scale is a group of eight notes beginning
and ending with the same letter name/ pitch name.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Let’s Study This!

Graphic designing is an art of creating visual content to communicate

messages. This includes the arrangement of the images, text, space, and colors

depending on the theme. To become a good graphic designer, you must learn the

basic principles of graphic designing.

BASIC PRINCIPLES OF GRAPHIC DESIGNING

BALANCE

It covers how the visual weight of elements are balanced with each other or
on both sides of a design. As a graphic designer, you must learn how to balance
an image with the text and space.

A symmetrically balance design. asymmetrical balance design

https://medium.com/@anahatrawal/10-basic-principles-of-graphic-design-b74be0dbdb58

11
PROXIMITY

It is the principle of design that refers to the spatial relationship between

elements of design where same elements should not be placed together or near
each other.

https://medium.com/@anahatrawal/10-basic-principles-of-graphic-design-b74be0dbdb58

ALIGNMENT

Alignment plays a pivotal role in creating a seamless visual connection with

the design elements. It gives an ordered appearance to images, shapes, and
blocks of texts by eliminating elements placed in a disheveled manner.

https://medium.com/@anahatrawal/10-basic-principles-of-graphic-design-b74be0dbdb58

The text, shape and image have been lined up in the middle, creating an ‘Alignment.’

Contrast

Contrast happens when there is a difference between the two opposing design
elements. The most common types of contrast are dark vs. light, contemporary

12
vs. old-fashioned, large vs. small, etc. Contrast guides a viewer’s attention to the
key elements, ensuring each side is legible.

https://medium.com/@anahatrawal/10-basic-principles-of-graphic-design-b74be0dbdb58

This image has been darkened to allow the text to create a sharp contrast against the
background.

Color

Color is an important design basic and it dictates the overall mood of a design.
The colors you pick represent your brand and its tonality, so be careful with the
palette you choose. As a graphic designer, it’s always helpful to have a basic
knowledge of color theory, for example, gold & neutral shades evoke an overall
feel of sophistication, bright colors signal happiness, and blue creates a feeling of
calmness.

https://medium.com/@anahatrawal/10-basic-principles-of-graphic-design-b74be0dbdb58

This contrasting color palette creates a vibrant and an energetic design.

13
Negative Space

We’ve discussed the importance of colors, images, and shapes, but what about
the space that is left blank? It is called the ‘negative space’, which in simple
words means the area between or around the elements.

https://medium.com/@anahatrawal/10-basic-principles-of-graphic-design-b74be0dbdb58

This is a stunning example of negative space.

Typography

Typography is one of the key pillars of design, and it speaks volumes about a
brand or an artwork when executed stylistically or even customized. Sometimes,
‘type’ is all you need to showcase your design concept.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Trash_Recycling_with_Disposal_Containers.jpg.
Accessed June 30, 2020.

As responsible members of the community, you can show that even in

simple ways, you can help build and maintain a healthy environment where
people can live happily.
Some Ways to Maintain a Healthy Physical Environment in School.
1. Plant Boxes
When there is not enough space with good soil for planting, an
alternative is to use plant boxes to make mini-gardens inside the
school. Plant boxes beautify the surroundings. Having plants in school
reduces carbon dioxide levels and remove pollutants in the air.
2. Waste Segregation
Waste segregation is sorting waste into different categories to
make disposal easier. Some segregate waste as dry or wet materials.
Others segregate as biodegradeable and nonbiodegradeable waste.
Some cities and countries encourage their citizens to segregate
according to materials that are recyclable; like paper, plastics and
bottles and glass and those which are not. By doing this, we reduce the
amount of garbage, thus, we reduce pollutants and toxins in the land,

21
air, water. Proper waste segregation can help a lot in maintaining a
clean, safe and healthy environment.
3. Raising Environmental Awareness
As a student, you can provide information and make initiatives
to protect and take care of the environment. Some practices which some
schools and communities already do are:
 conducting contests such as slogan-making contests,
jingle-making contests and on-the-spot painting/art
contest;
 giving recognition to organizations that promote
beautification, cleanliness and environmentalism within
the school;
 creating science projects to help eliminate wastes and
protect the environment;
 making announcements and regarding local government
initiatives to which the school can participate; and,
 holding special activities that focus on the preservation of
nature and fighting against pollution

Some Ways to Maintain a Healthy Community Physical Environment

1. Community Cleanup
Community cleanups are organized activities where a group or a
collaboration of groups set a time and place to clean and beautify their
communities. This is on a voluntary basis. Sometimes, businesses
provide some tools for the volunteers to use. They may also promote
through different social media accounts.
2. Green Curtains
A green curtain is a natural “curtain” of climbing plants that
provide shade to a window. These plants help lessen the interior
temperature of room and prevent direct sunlight from entering through
the window. A cooler room temperature eventually leads to less frequent
airconditioning and other appliances, lesser energy use and carbon
dioxide emission.
3. Reforestration and Tree-planting Programs
Reforestation is the replanting of trees in areas where they have
been damaged or destroyed. When there are few trees in the forest,
replanting is needed to revive the destroyed forest. Trees are important
in maintaining water cycle, preventing soil erosion and absorbing
enormous amounts of carbon dioxide. Tree- planting programs are done
in smaller communities. They add the number of trees in a given area.
Schools and other organizations often hold these activities in
mountainous places but also in urban areas where trees can help
alleviate the effects of pollution.

22
ACTIVITIES
Activity 1
Write True if the statement is correct and False if not.
1. Paper and plastic may be segregated from other wastes in order to be
recycled.
2. All biodegradable wastes are wet wastes.
3. Trees help soil erosion.
4. Deforestation is a good practice to plant more trees in the
community.
5. Saving energy can eventually help save the planet from destruction.

Activity 2 Plant box of Promise.

1. Write your name in cutout paper flowers.
2. Write things you commit to do to help the environment on the cutout
paper leaves.
3. Create a paper plant out of cutout paper leaves and flowers using
BBQ sticks as the stem of the plant.
4. Plant your plants of promise in the plantbox of promise. Display the
plant box near the windows so everybody can see it and be reminded
of their commitments.
5. Send photo of your plantbox in the social media account of teacher.

Activity 3
With a family member, name practical ways to help preserve the
environment. Write as many ways as you can. Write this at the back of
your module.

Activity 4
Write a paragraph with at least 5 sentences to answer the question .
How can a young person like you help build a safe and clean
environment?

maintaining a healthy school environment.
 As members of the community, you can participate in several
programs that advocate building and maintaining a healthy
community environment.
 Everyone has a role in building and keeping ahealthy school
and environment.
