Five teams, Japan, Korea, Spain, Thailand and China participate in a badminton tournament where each
team meet the other teams exactly once in the league stage. The top two teams will qualify for the finals.
When two teams meet each other, they play a set of five games: One Men’s singles, one women’s singles,
one women’s doubles, one men’s doubles and one mixed doubles game, each of which gives the winning
team one point. Each team can fix one among the five games, as a trump game and both the teams cannot
fix the same game as a trump game. The team that wins the game fixed as the trump will be given one
bonus point.

SOLUTION

Direction (1-5):

1. e) 66.66%
Solution: We have,

Vessels Grape juice (In Water (In Litres) Sugar (In Litres)
Litres)
A 11x 10x 45
B 5y 4y 39
C 6z 7z 45
D K 13z 52
Total Quantity 319 202 181

10
Now, the quantity of water in A is 11.11% more than sugar. So the quantity of water = 45 x 9 = 50
litres
11
Therefore, grape juice in A becomes 50 x 10 = 55 litres
Now, 80% of grape juice, water and sugar in A is 44, 40 and 36 respectively.
6 7
Similarly, 20% of grape juice, water and sugar in vessel C becomes 5 𝑧, 5 𝑧 and 9 litres respectively.

Report Errors in the PDF - publications@careerscloud.com Copyright 2014-2022 @ CareersCloud.in 12

DI Mains

6
Therefore, grape juice in new vessel E = 44 + 5 𝑧
And sugar in E = 36 + 9 = 45
According to question,
6
44+ 𝑧 10
5
=
45 9
z=5
therefore, grape juice in C = 6 x 5 = 30 litres
30
and required percentage = 45 x 100 = 66.66%

2. a) 17:22
Solution:
We have,

Vessels Grape juice (In Water (In Litres) Sugar (In Litres)
Litres)
A 11x 10x 45
B 5y 4y 39
C 6z 7z 45
D K 13z 52
Total Quantity 319 202 181

100
Given that, sugar in A is 30%, it implies that total quantity of mixture in vessel A = x 45 = 150 litres
30

Similarly, sugar in vessel B is 25% therefore,

100
Total quantity of mixture in B = 25 x 39 = 156
Total Quantity of vessel is 702,
So the total quantity of mixture C and D=702-156-150=396litres
Therefore, total quantity in vessels A and B = 306
306 17
Therefore, required ratio = 396 = 22

3. d) Both (2) and (3) satisfies

Solution: We have,

Vessels Grape juice (In Water (In Litres) Sugar (In Litres)
Litres)
A 11x 10x 45
B 5y 4y 39
C 6z 7z 45
D K 13z 52
Total Quantity 319 202 181

1)If the quantity of water in vessel A is 50 litres then the value of x = 5 and the total quantity of
mixture in vessel A = 21 x 5 + 45
= 150 litres
And if the quantity of grape juice in B is 55 litres then y = 11 and the total quantity of mixture in vessel
B = 138 litres

Report Errors in the PDF - publications@careerscloud.com Copyright 2014-2022 @ CareersCloud.in 13

DI Mains

Therefore, the ratio of the total quantity of A and B = 150: 138 = 25:23
Which doesn’t satisfy the given equations.

2) If the quantity of water in vessel A is 50 litres then the value of x = 5 and the total quantity of
mixture in vessel A = 21 x 5 + 45
= 150 litres
And if the quantity of grape juice in B is 65 litres then y = 13 and the total quantity of mixture in vessel
B = 156 litres
And the ratio of the total quantity of mixture in A and B = 150:156
=25:26
Hence, it satisfies the equations.

3) If the quantity of water in vessel A is 100 litres then the value of x = 10 and the total quantity of
mixture in vessel A = 21 x 10 + 45
= 255 litres
And if the quantity of grape juice in B is 80 litres then y = 16 and the total quantity of mixture in vessel
B = 183 litres
And the ratio of the total quantity of mixture in A and B = 255:183
=85:61
Hence, it satisfies the equations.

4) If the quantity of water in vessel A is 80 litres then the value of x = 8 and the total quantity of
mixture in vessel A = 21 x 8 + 45
= 213 litres
And if the quantity of grape juice in B is 100 litres then y = 20 and the total quantity of mixture in
vessel B = 219 litres
And the ratio of the total quantity of mixture in A and B = 213:219
=71:73
It doesn’t satisfy the equations.

Hence, only (2) and (3) satisfies the given conditions.

4. a) 169 litres
Solution:
We have,

Vessels Grape juice (In Water (In Sugar (In Litres)

Litres) Litres)
A 11x 10x 45
B 5y 4y 39
C 6z 7z 45
D K 13z 52
Total Quantity 319 202 181
The difference of water in D and A,
13z – 10x =15............(1)
And the sum of grape juice in vessels A and C,
11x + 6z = 85..............(2)
By solving (1) and (2) we get,
x= 5 and z = 5

Report Errors in the PDF - publications@careerscloud.com Copyright 2014-2022 @ CareersCloud.in 14

DI Mains

Now, to find the value of grape juice in D we need to find the value of grape juice in B.
10 x 5 +4y + 7 x 5 + 13 x 5 = 202
Y = 13
Therefore, the value of grape juice in vessels A, B and C are 55, 65 and 30 respectively.
So the value of grape juice in vessel D = 319 – (55+65+30)
= 169 litres

5.a)15 litres
Solution:

We have,
Vessels Grape juice (In Water (In Litres) Sugar (In Litres)
Litres)
A 11x 10x 45
B 5y 4y 39
C 6z 7z 45
D K 13z 52
Total Quantity 319 202 181

Total mixture in B is 104% to that of in A, it implies that,

104% of (21x+ 45 ) = 9y + 39
225y – 546x = 195.....(1)
Also mixture in B is 141 9/11% to that of in C, it gives,
1560
% 𝑜𝑓 (13z +45) = 9y + 39 .....(2)
11
Now, grape juice in B is 18.18% more than that of in A,
13
x 11𝑥 = 5y
11
𝑥 5
= 13
𝑦
Now, by solving these equations, we get,
X=5, y=13 and z=5
Therefore, required difference = 10 x 5 ~ 13 x 5
= 15 litres

Direction (6-10):

6. a) 6:5
Solution:
Let total students visit the site in the months of January and February are “a” and “b” respectively.
Now according to question,
40 75
a x 100 x 100 = 1800
a = 6000
40 64
b x 100 x 100 = 1280
b = 5000
therefore, required ratio = 6000: 5000 = 6:5

DI Mains

7. b) 520
Solution:
Let total number of people visited Affairs cloud’s site in the month of February = x
60 60
So, 𝑥 x 100 x 100 = 2880
𝑥 = 8000
40 40
Total female applying for new subscription plan in the month of February = 8000 x 100 x 100 = 1280
Let total number of people visited site in the month of March = y
45 58 55 30
So, y x 100 x 100 − y x 100 x 100 = 384
Y = 4000
45
Total number of people applying for new subscription in the month of March = 4000 x 100 = 1800
Therefore, required difference = 1800-1280 = 520

8. c) 2200
Solution:
Let total number of students visiting site of Affairs cloud in April = x
Therefore, according to question,
45 50
𝑥 x 100 x 100 = 2250
𝑥 = 10,000
Therefore, difference between male and female students visiting site for new subscription
55 4
= 10,000 x 100 x 10 = 2200

9. e) 9.09%
Solution:
Let total number of students visiting site in January = x
So, according to question,
40 50
𝑥 x 100 x 100 = 1200
𝑥 = 6000
Let us assume total students visiting site in April = y
45 50
So, y x 100 x 100 = 2700
Y = 12000
55
Total number of students applying for new subscription plan in April = 12000 x 100 = 6600
6600−6000

10. d) 9:8
Solution:
Let total students visiting site in February = 9x
And total students visiting site in March = 10x
So, males visiting site in February for taking new subscription are
40 3 3
9𝑥 x 100 x 8 ∴ 37.5% = 8
And females visiting site in March for taking new subscription are
45 4 4
10𝑥 x 100 x 15 ∴ 26.67% = 15
40 3 45 4
Therefore, required ratio = 9𝑥 x 100 x 8 ∶ 10𝑥 x 100 x 15
= 9:8

Direction(16-20):

16. b) Rs. 7280

Solution:
Let the salaries of Sam, Charles and Britto be respectively 5x, 6x and 7x respectively
The amount invested by Sam in the business= [100- (25%+10+10+5)] % of 5x= 50% of 5x= 2.5x
It has been given that the ratio of the initial investments by Sam, Mary, and Meena= 1:2:4
The investment by Mary= 2.5x*2= 5x
The investment by Meena= 2.5x*4= 10x
The investment ratio= 2.5x*6: 5x*8: 12*10x= 25*6: 50*8: 120*10= 3:8:24
Let the total profit be Rs. ‘y’. According to the data,
24
∗ 𝑦 = 62,400
35
35
𝑦 = 62400 ∗ 24
The total profit earned through the business= Rs. 91,000
The ratio of the total initial investment to the total profit= 4:5
91000
The total initial investment in the business= ∗ 4 = 𝑅𝑠. 72,800
5
1
The investment made by Sam= 7 ∗ 72800 = 𝑅𝑠. 10,400
50% of Sam’s salary= 10,400
Sam’s salary= Rs. 20,800
20,800
Britto’s salary= 5 ∗ 7 = 29,120
25
The total amount spent on food by Britto= 100 ∗ 29120 = 𝑅𝑠. 7280

17. c) Both (i) and (ii)

Solution:
The difference between the expenditures on food and entertainment for Charles= Rs. 25,200. Let the
salary of Charles be Rs.’x’
(25-5) % of x= 25200
100
x= 25200∗ 20 =Rs. 1,26,000
126000
The salary of Britto= 6 ∗ 7 = 𝑅𝑠. 1,47,000
The amount invested by Britto in the scheme= [100-(25-10-10-5-12.5)] % of 1,47,000= Rs. 55,125
The interest obtained by him after ‘n’ years= Rs. 40,131
20 𝑛
55,125 (1 + 100) − 55125 = 40,131
120 𝑛 95256
( ) =( )
100 55125
6 𝑛 216
(5) = (125)
n=3
Substituting n=3 in (i) and (ii), we get
(i) 33 + 5 ∗ 32 − 10 ∗ 3 − 42 = 0
(ii) 32 + 2 ∗ 3 − 15 = 0
It can be seen that the value of ‘n’ satisfies both the given equations.

The amounts that Sam, Charles and Britto should pay for the apartment= y, y and 2y respectively.
The total amount spent on food= Rs. 31,500
25% of (5x+6x+7x) = 31500
4.5x= 31500
31500
x= 4.5 = 7,000
The salary of Sam= Rs. 35,000
The salary of Charles= Rs. 42,000
The salary of Britto= Rs. 49,000

From the above table the following data can be inferred:

Teams Maximum possible Minimum possible

points points
China 16 8

Japan 23 18

Korea 18 12

Thailand 16 12

Spain 11 6

21. b) 22.22%
Solution:
For the points to be maximum for a team, it should have won all possible trump games.
For Japan:
Against China, it won by a score of 3-2. If we assume that Japan has won both the trump games, the
maximum possible points for Japan in the match against China= 5
Against Korea the score is 4-1 in favor of Japan and so the maximum possible points for Japan against
Korea= 5 (Given that both the teams won their respective trump games)
Against Thailand, the score is 5-0 in favor of Japan and so Japan can get 7 points in this game.
Against Spain, the score is 3-2 favoring Japan and so the maximum possible points= 5 assuming that
Japan won both the trump games.
The maximum possible points of Japan= 5+5+7+5= 22
For Korea:
Against China the score was 3-2 in Korea’s favor and so the maximum possible points for Korea
against China= 5 (Consider that Korea won both the trump games)
Against Japan, since it has been given that both the teams have won their respective trump games, the
only possibility for the points got by Korea against Japan= 2
Korea won the match against Spain with a score of 4-1. Assuming that Spain did not win any of the
trump games, it can be seen that the maximum possible points against Spain= 6
The score of the Korea- Thailand match= 3-2 in favor of Korea and so if we consider that Thailand did
not win any of the trump games the maximum possible points for Korea= 5
The maximum possible points of Korea at the end of the league stage= 5+2+6+5= 18
22−18
The required percentage= 18 ∗ 100 = 22.22%

22. c) Thailand
Solution:
From the table given in the directions, it can be seen that
The total number of games won by China= 8, Thailand= 10, Japan= 15, Korea= 11 and Spain= 6
Out of the total matches won by China, 3 are trump games
So the total number of points of China at the end of the league stage= (5*1) +(3*2) = 11
Out of the total matches won by Japan, 5 are trump games
So the total number of points of Japan at the end of the league stage= (10*1) + (5*2) =20
Out of the total matches won by Korea, 5 are trump games
So the total number of points of Korea at the end of the league stage= (6*1) + (5*2) = 16
Out of the total matches won by Spain, 3 are trump games
So the total number of points of Spain at the end of the league stage= (3*1) +(3*2) = 9
Out of the total matches won by Thailand, 4 are trump games
So the total number of points of Thailand at the end of the league stage= (6*1) + (4*2) = 14
It can be seen that Thailand stands third in the standings at the end of the league stage.

23. b) 28
Solution:
From the table given in the directions, it can be seen that
The total number of games won by China= 8, Thailand= 10, Japan= 15, Korea= 11 and Spain= 6
Since each team plays 4 matches, the number of trump games that a team plays= 8
So the total points of China= (4*1) +(4*2) -(4*1) = 8 (China won 4 trump games and lost 4)
Similarly, the total points of Korea= (6*1) + (5*2)- (3*1) = 13
The total points of Spain= (3*1) + (3*2)- (5*1) = 4
The total points of Japan= (11*1) + (4*2)- (4*1) = 15
The total points of Thailand= (6*1) + (4*2)- (4*1) = 10
It can be seen that Japan and Korea are respectively the winner and the runner.
Hence, The required sum of points = 15+13=28

24. d) 4
Solution:

Teams Maximum possible Minimum possible

DI Mains

25. b) Decreases
Solution:
The maximum number of trump games that a team can play= 4*2= 8
Since every match won by China was a trump match, the points of China= 16 (it won all its trump
games)
The points of Japan= 18 (Minimum possible points)
Japan can win only 3 out of its 8 trump games in order that the number of points is minimum.
Within the given conditions,
the maximum possible points that can be attained by Thailand = 14
The Maximum possible points that can be attained by Spain = 9
The Maximum possible points that can be attained by Korea (At least 4 trump matches lost) = 15

Since Japan tops the table and China is the second topper in the table after the completion of the
league stage, hence according to the given rules China and Japan would be playing in the finals.
Hence the probability of Japan winning the tournament decreases by 5%.

Teams Maximum possible Points

China 16

Japan 18

Korea 15

Thailand 14

Spain 9
