Data driven knowledge acquisition
Overview
This paper starts by presenting the definition, architecture, procedures, significances, advantages and
disadvantages of data driven knowledge acquisition. It then proceeds to show the problem explored, an
approach followed, result achieved, conclusions and implications drawn from the results that are related to
the data driven acquisition are subsequently provided. Finally, it includes the strength and weakness of the
articles, that I learned from the concept with one major conclusion and references used are discussed.

Definition of data driven knowledge acquisition

Data driven knowledge acquisition is the process of extracting, structuring and organizing knowledge from
one source or extracting knowledge from data and data drive means make strategic decision. Since
knowledge extraction from structured sources such as it extracted from data base, data warehouse or
documents. Knowledge acquisition can be defined as the situation in which the organization and
individuals obtain the required knowledge that helps them accomplish their work efficiently, easily, and at
the lowest possible cost.it is an important and necessary process at this time because everything has
become based on knowledge. For example, for writing and reading skill knowledge is useful.

Types of knowledge

1. Tacit knowledge:-the knowledge that cannot be shared for others that means the knowledge is
available only individual mind.it available in humans.
2. Explicit knowledge:-the knowledge that can be shared for others and it available in documents,
articles and reports.

Knowledge Acquisition process

Before explaining the steps of acquiring knowledge, we must know what the raw materials use knowledge
is? The raw materials of knowledge refer to the raw materials that you can use to build knowledge. Those
are:-

1. Data

The data indicates the facts about things. In other words, it describes things. For example, length = 1.70
meters, weight = 80 kg, Old = 35 years.

3|Page

INFORMATION SYSTEMS March 15, 2022
2. Information

Data is a collection of individual facts without any relationship between them. Information refers to the
process of extracting a relationship between specific facts.

When studying and analyzing data, discovering the relationship between that data is information. For
example, someone who is 1.70 meters tall would be 35 years old.

3. Knowledge

As a result of the above, the organization obtains knowledge by linking information together and
identifying recurring patterns. Knowledge refers to discovering a particular pattern through the study and
analysis of information and data.

Knowledge acquisition example

We will present a simple example that is generally popular so that everyone can understand it. This
example is a company that specializes in retail stores.

Retail Store Company

In the first phase, the company will open stores and branches in a variety of geographical locations. The
daily selling process generates an enormous amount of data. This information contains all customer data
related to their purchases. This data also includes credit card information. You can consider this stage as
the stage of data collection. In addition, the organization’s knowledge management team can receive data

INFORMATION SYSTEMS March 15, 2022
from external sources about customers, weather conditions, laws, information about competitors; etc. In the
second step, its knowledge management department receives this data, arranges it in databases, and
coordinates groups to facilitate its use. The company is extracting statistics and graphs for the various
products sold, such as the number of dairy and meat products, sales of electronic devices, etc. Also, the
reports are classified according to customers’ age, gender, income level, etc. This is to obtain an extensive
view of the company’s products and customers. By analyzing and compiling reports and statistics, the
company noticed some patterns and similarities in customers’ behavior. The patterns are so frequent that
they can be taken as a general rule. Examples of these patterns include:

 Most of the customers who buy nappies buy wet towels with them.
 Dairy products in the store in the geographical location Y are not sold in the same quantities
compared to other stores.
 The store located in the geographical location Q sells more than 50% of the baby products from
the rest of the branches. As a result, the knowledge that the company has acquired using the
knowledge acquisition process explained earlier. Now the company can rely on this knowledge
to make appropriate decisions.
 Data driven knowledge acquisition system the following diagram shows the steps how to use
knowledge acquisition system for service application.

This diagram consists of five (5) layers

1 data cu ration layer:-the process of creating, organizing and maintaining data sets. They can be accessed
and used by people looking for information.

2 Information cu ration layer: - they can be accessed and used by people.

3 Knowledge cu ration layer:-it is supported by relevant information and data which can improve
decision and serves as building block in the creation of new knowledge

4 Service cu ration layer: - Service Creation Environments (SCEs) for Intelligent Networks provide very
limited support for service requirements analysis, specification and validation.

5 Supporting layer: - . A support layer may also cover the adhesive until the user is prepared to apply the
device. In this way, the support layer protects the adhesive layer from contact with surfaces other than the
body surface selected for the desired treatment.

Problems solved by using data driven knowledge acquisition
Knowledge is recognized as an organizational resource for business value creation. The work with
knowledge -knowledge work- is thus an important part of value – adding processes in organizations. The
ability of knowledge worker to analyze complex phenomena, interpret them and develop meaningful
actions is one central part of knowledge work.

The advancement of digital aids and especially the ability analyze big amount of data is a new
phenomenon that is increasingly seen in organizations. In this work , we assume that there needs to be
an interplay between digital aids and knowledge workers to allow new , deep insights into phenomena
and support business value creation , we develop a model that describes discuss it using real-world
cases. How this interplay could look like from that crucial:-

 Separate data-driven and expert-based analyze in knowledge discovery,

 Clearly describing problem that should be solved by the analysis,
 Understanding the particular document analysis is applied to
 Complement data-driven with expert-based analysis
 Understand the entanglement of analysis and action implementation

Applications of data driven knowledge acquisition

Health
Health data- and model- driven Knowledge Acquisition

Hospital information systems are used at every step of patient care, collecting continuously longitudinal
data, unstructured and structured, including clinical reports, drug prescriptions, and laboratory results and
omits data. Unfortunately, the knowledge that can be acquired from previously collected health data is
hardly considered in the clinical care of new patients.

The objective of this knowledge is to develop methodologies, tools and their applications in clinics towards
a learning health system, i.e., a health system that leverages clinical data collected to extract agilely and
reliably novel medical knowledge that, in turn, continuously improves healthcare. We rely on the
availability of EHRs (Electronic Health Records), clinical trials, cohorts and other linked data to develop
models for stratification and prediction with the potential of improving the precision and the
personalization of treatments, and in turn the quality of healthcare.

Power systems
Data driven knowledge extraction scheme is proposed and applied to realize power system stability
estimation since power system stability assessment can be treated as a typical classification problem
(stable/unstable). The strategy is composed of three cascading layers, including the feature selection for
choosing an optimal subset from candidate inputs, pattern discovery layer for identifying the latent
structure of samples in the selected feature space, and the decision tree layer for generating the self-
contained production rules based on the pattern discovery results. Application results on IEEE test system
show its merits as a knowledge extraction method, thereby the proposed approach can be widely used in
other engineering domains.

Architecture and procedures of data driven knowledge acquisition

Nowadays knowledge management system is confronted with variety and unprecedented amount of data,
resulting from big data sources. The proposed architecture is based on design science research, including a
set of constructs, a model and a method. The design evaluation is presented based on analytical evaluation
method.
Real-time processing: - requires a continual input, constant processing and study output of data. A great
example of real time processing is customer service system, radar system; bank ATMs, where immediate
processing is crucial to make the system work properly.

Knowledge repository: - a collection of documentation that answer to frequently asked questions. It is

designed to make it easy for people to find solutions to their problems without having to ask for help.

Batch processing: - the process by which a computer completes batch of jobs, often simultaneously, in
nonstop, sequential order.

Data repository: - a storage space for researchers to deposit data set associated with their research.

Data loading: - the process of copying and loading or data sets from a source file, folder or application
to database.

Batch data: - the processing of a large volume of data all at once the data easily consists of millions of
records for a day and can be stored in a variety of ways (file, record).

Real time data: - information that is delivered immediately after collection.

Conclusion
“Knowledge is power.” Therefore, its acquisition is essential for individuals and organizations.

Knowledge acquisition can be defined as the situation in which the organization and individuals obtain
the required knowledge that helps them accomplish their work efficiently, easily, and at the lowest
possible cost. But past modifications are difficult. Since the data collected in this way or earlier is
suitable and the organization use explicit knowledge rather than tacit.

Recommendation
Knowledge sharing is not power sharing so I recommended that change the tacit knowledge in to explicit
and past modification or explanation do not use to extract knowledge from data.
