ABSTRACT

This reserach aims to map the consumer perception toward e-vehicle in Gujarat. Every day we come
across so many topics and articles which states the importance of E-Vehicles and how government
around the world are implementing policies to promote E-Vehicles to reduce the dependences on oil,
decrease greenhouse gasses and improve air quality. A major pollutant comes from Metropolitan cities
and hence it is important for people living in these cities to understand and do their bit to reduce the
consumption of lifethreatening gasses and pollutants. This paper is aimed to capture the views,
sentiments and perception on the awareness and likeliness to buy the vehicles so that sustainability in
environment can be maintained.

INTRODUCTION

5
The third-largest road network in the world is found in India. In India, road travel appeared to be the
main mode of transportation, with over 60% of the population commuting by personal or shared
vehicles. (2020, Statista)

Traveling by car Conventional vehicles contribute significantly to global warming and air pollution. Dust
is produced by all sorts of cars due to brakes, tyres, and road wear. The typical diesel vehicle has a
negative impact on air quality, but the average gasoline vehicle has a positive impact. However gasoline
and diesel vehicles harm the environment more than the average vehicle.

To discourage the purchase and use of more polluting cars, governments began employing fiscal policies
such as road taxes. Green taxes are imposed when re-registering a car after 15 years of use in order to
encourage consumers to switch from polluting automobiles to fuel-efficient and less polluting vehicles.

Fuel taxes may serve as a motivator for the development of more efficient, less polluting vehicles and
alternative fuels. Consumers may be enticed to buy lighter, smaller, more fuel-efficient cars or to not
drive because of high gasoline taxes or societal shifts. (transportpolicy)

The FAME India Scheme is an incentive programme aimed at encouraging the use of electric and hybrid
vehicles in India. Its goal is to encourage electric mobility by providing financial incentives for increasing
electric vehicle production and building electric transportation infrastructure. FAME was created in 2015
by the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises to encourage the manufacturing and
promotion of environmentally friendly vehicles, such as electric and hybrid vehicles. The scheme is
intended to set up charging infrastructure.

6
The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020 is a National Mission document that lays out
the vision and, as a result, the road map for EV uptake and manufacturing. This plan aims to improve
national fuel security, provide inexpensive and ecologically friendly transportation, and help India's
automobile industry become a global leader in manufacturing, 2013.

PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH :-

The goal of this article is to map customer perceptions of e-vehicles in Gujarat. Every day, we
come across a plethora of subjects and articles emphasising the importance of electric vehicles and how
governments around the world are establishing laws to promote them in order to reduce reliance on oil,
cut greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality. Metropolitan cities produce a significant amount
of pollution, thus residents of these places must understand and do their part to limit the consumption
of life-threatening gases and pollutants.

This study aims to capture people's opinions, feelings, and perceptions on vehicle awareness and
willingness to acquire them in order to maintain environmental sustainability.

OBJECTIVES OF THIS RESEARCH :-

 To test consumer awareness about e-vehicles.

 To spread awareness about e-vehicles.

 To research the factors driving customers to buy electric vehicles.

 To understand the various government e-transportation initiatives in India.

LITERATURE REVIEW :-
Electric Vehicles: A Synthesis of the Current Literature with a Focus on Economic and Environmental
Viability: Marcello Contestabile, Dr Gregory Offer, Dr Robin North

According to a study, the longer-term adoption of electric vehicles will be significantly reliant on
advancements in battery technology, which will lower costs and boost energy density, as well as the
availability of appropriate recharging infrastructure.

Praveen Kumar and Kalyan Dash, Potential Need for Electric Vehicles, Charging Station Infrastructure,
and Challenges for the Indian Market

Rather than making a massive adjustment, India can engage in small-scale reinforcements to
address load difficulties locally. Charging at home should be promoted. Before constructing the large
scale charging infrastructure, proper planning of location, population, traffic density, and safety should

7
be considered. It is critical to integrate efforts in the energy and transportation industries. Drivers of
electric cars are offered a financial consumer incentive, such as tax credits, purchase subsidies,
discounted tolls, free parking, and access to restricted highway lanes, which will assist the market grow.

Consumer preferences for electric vehicles: by Fanchao Liao, Eric Molin & Bert van Wee,

The widespread adoption of electric vehicles may help to alleviate issues such as pollution,
global warming, and oil reliance. EV penetration, on the other hand, is comparatively low, despite
governments' aggressive promotion measures. They offered a comprehensive assessment of studies on
consumer preferences for electric vehicles in order to inform policymakers and guide future research.

They compared consumer preference for electric vehicles from an economic and psychological
standpoint. Financial and technical characteristics of electric vehicles, such as their purchase and
running costs, driving range, charging duration, vehicle performance, and brand variety on the market,
are all proven to have a substantial impact on their usefulness. The number of charging stations
available has a favourable impact on the utility and promotion of electric vehicles. The impact of tax and
incentive policies.

Electric Vehicles in India: Market Analysis with Consumer Perspective, Policies and Issues: Pritam K.
Gujarathi, Varsha A. Shah, Makarand M. Lokhande,

Because the current market share of EV/PHEV is under 0.1 percent, the ndian Scenario is
unique. Almost all automobiles today are powered by fossil fuels transportation. These damage the
atmosphere by emitting greenhouse gases and contribute to global warming. The disparity between
petroleum production and demand in the United States is increasing. India is a net importer around 70%
of oil required per annum. As a result, there is a pressing need to look at the issues and challenges for
more environmentally friendly and sustainable options

APPROCH :-
The research articles are examined using keywords relating to the topic that were found in
various published journals, working papers, and other books. These papers were gathered over a
number of years, beginning with the most basic introductory paper published in 2002, which laid the
groundwork for this topic, and ending with the most recent studies.

ORIGINALITY :-
I used a descriptive research design in this study. The data was collected via primary data via a
questionnaire.

FINDINGS:-
 Out of 53 people, 33 are male, 20 are female. That’s mean the male have more knowledge
about E-vehicles & only working ladies having the knowledge about E-vehicles.
 The majority of respondents between the ages of 15-30 years are interested in E-vehicles.
 Employees and students make up the majority of the respondents.
 most of the people responding are from middle class family.
 only 9.6% have e- vehicles out of 52 persons.
 mostly people prefer TATA’s e-vehicles.
 49.1% people planning to buying e – vehicles in next 2 years.
 The significant are not more prefer as an E-vehicle. It means consumers are not more prefer as
an E-vehicle. Overall, we can say that consumers are more prefer other than E-vehicle.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:-
Decreased sales, and we will attempt to address the issue by determining whether their
preferences for e-vehicles have changed, or whether they have altered their way of conveyance or
transportation. Or they are still unaware of the advantages of electric automobiles. Through this study,
we hope to raise awareness.

LIMITATIONS :-
 Only data from the Vadodara location information was obtained, hence the results only
represent a small portion of the population.

15
 More study should be done in the future with a wider range of samples and in greater depth
with a wider geographical dispersion.
 Because the data is acquired via an internet questionnaire, there's a chance they won't be
completely honest while answering the questions.

CONCLUSION:-
The buyers do not prefer an E-vehicle. Overall, we may conclude that consumers prefer alternate
modes of transportation to E-vehicles. We may also deduce from the questionnaire's question that
consumers prefer electric cars to electric bikes or electric scooters. When it comes to purchasing an
E-vehicle, people consider the good environmental impact, pricing, low noise level, and new trends.
The majority of respondents believe that electric cars are prohibitively expensive. Electric cars can
replace normal cars, according to the majority of respondents.
