[In conjunction with Indian Lean Construction Conference, 2022]

The inaugural edition of

Lean Project Competition 2022
About the one-of-a-kind industry and academia event
Greetings from National Institute of Construction Management and
Research (NICMAR) Hyderabad and Institute for Lean Construction
Excellence (ILCE).

We invite you to participate in the inaugural edition of an exciting lean

construction showcase event – the Lean Project Competition 2022 – to be
held in conjunction with the Indian Lean Construction Conference (ILCC),
2022. For this one-of-a-kind, multi-stage feature leading up to the grand
finale during ILCC 2022, we solicit teams from the construction industry and
academia to exhibit their excellence in lean thinking and practice.

Who can participate?

Three categories of teams1 can participate in this competition to win the
corresponding annual rolling trophy:

Category 1 – Consisting of members (lean practitioners) from an

organization of construction industry
Category 2 – Consisting of students/researchers/faculty members
(lean thinkers) from an academic institution
Category 3 – Consisting of lean practitioners from an organization of
construction industry and lean thinkers from an academic institution
(a mix of category 1 and category 2)

1A maximum of five members per team is allowed. Multiple teams can participate from the same
organization/institution. Members of a team in Category 1 or Category 2 can also be a part of
another team in Category 3.
Competition Problem Statement 2022
While adoption of lean principles can be challenging, the true test today
remains the integration and sustenance of Lean Construction with the
Industry 4.0 paradigms2,3. The crux of this competition is the interventions
required towards the People-Processes-Technologies triad in the present
and future of Lean Construction. The goal of the teams is to conceptually
and/or practically showcase such a lean intervention(s) package by
responding broadly (but not limited) to the following questions2:

1. How can Lean Construction aid the management of people (and vice
versa) in the light of Industry 4.0?
2. How can Lean Construction aid the transformation of technologies
and work processes (and vice versa) in the light of Industry 4.0?
3. How can people, processes and technologies influence each other in
sustaining Lean Construction?

Key Dates and Submissions by the teams

The lean intervention package consists of (i) structured abstract (ii) interim
report and presentation (iii) pre-final report and presentation (iv) synopsis
and final presentation – to be submitted by the teams in multiple stages.

▪ Submission of structured abstracts for single-blind review and registration

in the ILCC 2022 website – 23.59 PM 22nd July 2022
Structured abstracts should contain the following details: Title, author names, author
affiliations, overview of the target problem, current practice and implication, intervention
proposed, impact on/of people-processes-technologies, envisioned practice and
implication. Structured abstracts should be mailed to bmahesh@nicmar.ac.in and
technical.secretary1@ilce.in

based on relevance, alignment with the problem statement, reflection of lean
principles and industry 4.0 paradigms, tradeoff projections, significance of
impact and conceptual/practical limitations amongst other parameters.

Registration
Registration is mandatory for each team to be considered in the competition.
The registration form can be accessed through this link
