Recent Trends & Innovations in Welding
Organised by
venue:
Techno India Main, Salt Lake
EM-4/1, Sector V, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700091
The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India) is the premier professional institute in India in the field of
material joining technology and allied areas. It is also a member Society of the International Institute of
Welding. Established in 1966 with its Secretariat in Kolkata, IIW-India is now having 13 branches, 2
centres and 18 students’ chapters. In addition, the institute regularly conducts various international and
national level courses and examinations for the benefit of welding fraternity and plays a leading role as
the certifying body for welding training courses as per PMKVY under sector skill councils and for its own
course NWTCS (National Welding Training and Certification Scheme). It is also empanelled by DE&T,
Govt. of India, as an assessment body for all fabrication sector courses Under Modular Employable
Scheme (MES). The institute conducts National level annual competitions for Welders, Welding
Engineers, Engineering Students, Women Welders, and also Welded Sculptures from Crafts.
The Institute also publishes a quarterly journal, the Indian Welding Journal, the official organ of the IIW-
India in technical association with American Welding Society (AWS).
IIW-India has obtained accreditations from the ‘International Institute of Welding’ (IIW) as the
Authorised Nominated Body (ANB) to qualify personnel in accordance with ISO 14731 and as the
Authorised Nominated Body for Company Certification (ANBCC) to certify organisations in
accordance with ISO 3834. It is also having a collaboration with IIS Cert, Italy, for Manufacturers’
Certification in accordance with EN 15085 and EN 1090.
The Kolkata Branch of IIW-India is one of the most active branches having large corporate and
individual member base. The branch conducts technical lectures, training programmes, refresher
courses, workshops and seminars on regular basis. It is also engaged with different engineering
colleges for conducting welding related programmes to encourage budding Engineers.
The craft of welding has withstood the test of time but that doesn’t mean innovation has stopped within
the field. There are always going to be new ways to join metals – and in this avenue, we’ll look for the
new innovations in the field of welding technology, and how it is shaping the Future Welding
Technology.
Digital integration is now a need of the industry and not an alternative process. The industries are now
focusing on AI (Artificial Intelligence) & ML (Machine Learning) based automated welding applications
followed by predictive and prescriptive analytical reports to achieve targeted Productivity through ZERO
Defects, enhanced MTBF (Meantime between failures) and reduced human error. Further, Government
of India’s “Digital India” initiative has attracted Next Generation Technologies with a specific focus on
manufacturing from all over the country and also to support the “Make in India” campaign. Through this
initiative, there will certainly be an increase in the contribution from the manufacturing sector substantially
to the country’s GDP. Hence, it is evident that the Welding Professionals and the Welding Technology at
large is perfectly poised to benefit from this opportunity.
This platform will also offer opportunities for the aspirant welding engineers, who are students and / or on
the verge of completion of their curriculum, to express their innovation / ideas in the field of welding
through presenting papers and also gathers knowledge through active participation.
Keeping in mind the need of the hour, The Indian Institute of Welding, Kolkata Branch will hold its Annual
Branch Seminar WELD-2022 on the auspicious Foundation Day of The Indian Institute of Welding on
the theme “Recent Trends & Innovations in Welding” on Friday, the 22nd of April 2022 at the
