You are studying for a qualification, and you would like some time
off work to complete it.
● Write a letter to your manager. In your letter:
● Ask for some time off to complete a qualification.
● Suggest what you will do later at work if you have time off.
● Say how the qualification helps your job or company

2. You play a team sport with some friends. Last week a member of
the team had an accident and wasn’t able to play with you at the weekend. You decide to
write to him in hospital, telling him about the match. Write a letter to your friend. In your
letter, tell him:
● which team won
● describe the conditions on the day
● say how you felt about the match

3. You traveled by plane last week and your suitcase was lost.
You have still heard nothing from the airline company.
● Write to the airline and explain what happened.
● Describe your suitcase and tell them what was in it.
● Find out what they are going to do about it.

4. You have just read a newspaper article with incorrect


information. Write a letter to the newspaper editor. In your letter

• Report the error to the editor.


• Correct the error in the article.
• Suggest to the newspaper what to do with it

5. A family member is coming to stay with you. He/she will be


arriving by train in the morning, but you won’t be home until the
evening. Write a letter to your relative. In your letter:

● Explain arrangements you have made for them to have keys and get
● into the house.
● Tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house?
● Say when you will be home and suggest what you could do together
● that evening?

6. You have recently purchased a gift item for one of your friends.
Write a letter to this friend. In your letter,
• tell him/her about the gift
• tell me how you want to send the gift to this friend
• explain why you chose this gift for your friend

8.You have heard that a developer plans to build a shopping centre


near your home. Write a letter to the council. In your letter
· say how you heard about the plan
· explain how you feel about it
· ask for more information about it
