DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS VI

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, pupils are expected to:
 define solid figures,
 describe the different solid figures, and
 draw different solid figures.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
a. Topic: Solid Figure
b. Materials: PowerPoint presentation
c. References: Habijan, et al, iMath6 K to 12 Curriculum Series, pp. 176- 179
e. Value: Critical thinking, Active participation, and Determination
f. Core Value: Efficiency

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher's Activities Pupils' Activities
A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
 PRAYER
-Before we start let’s have a prayer. (One of the pupils will lead the prayer.)
(The teacher will call one pupil who will lead the
prayer.)
-Who wants to volunteer to lead a prayer

 GREETINGS -Good morning, teacher!

-Good afternoon, Grade VI! -We're fine, thank you! How about you?
-How are you today?
-I'm good, thank you.

 CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE (The pupils will say present when the teacher call
-Class, I will check the attendance first. Say present as I their name.)
call your name.
(The teacher will take note of the absent pupils.)

 ENERGIZER
-I prepare an icebreaker for us to energize our brain. In -(The students will participate on the activity)
this activity I’ll show some words then you have to tell
the color of the word and not the word itself. For
example the word is green but the color is red. Your
answer will be red.
Yes ma’am
Is it clear class?

-Let’s round of applause.

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
 DRILL -(The students participates in the activity)
-Class, I want you to look for the things or objects in -the things have a shape
your home like for example the television, what have
you notice on the things in your home?
-correct all the things around us has different shape.

-The last lesson that we tackled is all about plane

 REVIEW figures.
-In mathematics the last lesson that you study is all
about the? - Plane figure are flat surface figure that are polygons
with endpoints that are connected to each other. They
-What is a plane figure? have length and widths only.

- The triangle, quadrilateral, and circle.

- What are the different
kinds of plane figures?
Correct!

-All your answers are correct! Well done!

 MOTIVATION
-(Using a PowerPoint presentation the teacher will
present a simple problem solving)
-Class I have here a paragraph or a simple problem
solving you are going to analyze what is given in the
paragraph.
Can you read______________?
Mayor Webster Letargo distributed a box of relief
goods for the affected citizens in Abuyog in Leyte, the
box includes 3 cans of sardines, 4 noodles, 5 pieces of -3 cans of sardines, 4 noodles, 5 pieces of facemask,
facemask, and 5 kilos of rice. and 5 kilos of rice.

-Can you enumerate what is inside the box? - I notice that the foods have different shapes.

-What can you notice?

-Correct not only the things has a shape but also in
the foods that we eat.
0kay, let’s move on to our activity.
C. LESSON PROPER
 ACTIVITY
Mrs. Barago visited a medical store and she found the
following:

-A bandage and the signage ma’am

-It has face ma’am

-From the items that she found, identify which of them
are plane figures. Okay, very good! -Ma’am I think solid figures.
-What have you notice from the left items medicine
box, alcohol, and tissue paper?

-What do you think our lesson for today? -Are three dimensional figures that have width, length
Correct! and height. They have faces, edges and vertices.

 ANALYSIS -Solid figures or even geometric solid.

-Based from the left items that you have seen, What do
you think Space figure? Face is a flat surface.
Lateral faces are the sides
- It is also called, what? Edge is a segment formed by intersecting faces.
Correct! Vertices are point of intersection of the edges.
(Solid figures have properties called faces, lateral, The upper and lower congruent faces are called the
vertices, edge and bases. Who can describe the faces, bases.
lateral, vertices, edge, and bases of a solid figure?

To make it clear let’s take a look at this picture.

Prism is a three-
dimensional figure
whose base is exactly the
same as the face directly
above it. It has 4 lateral faces that are parallelograms.
The top and bottom faces are called the bases, which
are congruent parallel polygons.

There are different kinds of Geometric solid or solid Example ma’am is cube.
figures and these are prism, pyramid, cone, cylinder
and sphere. Who will describe prism? -The opposite bases are rectangles and they are equal
in measure.

Who will give an example of prism? The opposite bases are triangles and they are equal in
measure. The faces are rectangles.
Who will explain rectangular prism as you’ve looking
at the picture? Pyramid is a solid figure with at least 3 lateral faces
that are triangles. Faces met at a common point called
How about triangular prism? the vertex. It has only one base which is a polygon.
The shape of the base tells the name of the pyramid.

- The base is a rectangle and the faces

Let’s move on to the second kind of solid figures, who are triangle.
will explain pyramid?
-The base of the pyramid is a square.
Can you give an example of pyramid____________?
-The base of the pyramid is a triangle.
From the word rectangular, can you explain what
rectangular pyramid is?
-Cone, cylinder, and sphere
How about the square pyramid?
Cone is a solid figure with one circular base and one
And lastly, triangular pyramid who will explain? vertex.
-Ice cream cone or the apa
What do you call to the solid figures that have curved
surfaces? Cylinder is a solid figure with circle as the bases.
The bases are congruent. It has neither vertices nor
What is cone? edges.
-A can of sardines
Can you give an example of cone_____________?
Sphere is a solid figure with all of points equidistant
Who will explain cylinder? from the center. No faces, bases, edges or vertices.
-A globe ma’am

Can you give an example of cylinder_________?

And lastly sphere who will explain?

Who will give an example of sphere?

Alright! I think you understand what solid figures is
let’s try to answer this. - Cube

 FIXING SKILLS
Identify the picture what kind of solid figure it is. Cylinder

1.____________

Rectangular prism
2. ______________
3.____________
Sphere

Cone

4.______________ 1. B
2. D
3. F
4. E
5. C
5.______________
Match the 2D shape to 3D shape
A

E - are three dimensional figures that have width, length

and height. They have faces, edges and vertices.

F
-faces, lateral, edge, vertices, and base

 ABSTRACTION -prism, pyramid, cone, cylinder, and sphere

-Again class, what is a solid figure?

-Can you give the properties or the terms associated

with solid figures?

-What are the different kinds of solid figure?

Very Good!

 APPLICATION
For your activity you are going to draw objects that
represents the following solid figures.
Example: Cone

1. Cube
2. Prism
3. Sphere
4. Cone
5. Cylinder
IV. EVALUATION
Draw the pictorial models of the following.
Problem solving pages 78

1. Cylinder 5. Triangular prism

2. Cube 6. Pyramid
3. Sphere 7. Cone
4. Rectangular Prism

V. ASSISGNMENT
Draw and color a robot using the solid figure.
