Washing the Car

Scope
This procedure covers washing the car.

Policy
The family car is washed with approved, nonabrasive cleaner only prior to each road trip at a drive-through car wash only in an emergency

Wasting water is strictly prohibited.

Responsibility
The Chief Washer is responsible for washing and rinsing the car. The Car Wash Supervisor is responsible for supervising the washing operation determining when a drive-through car wash should be used determining the schedule

The Interior Custodian is responsible for cleaning the interior of the car.

Activity Preface
This activity is performed whenever the color of the family car is unrecognizable. This activity is also performed on the first Saturday of each month. Normally, car washing is done in the early morning out of direct sun. The Car Wash Supervisor may choose to: delegate his/her duties to the Chief Washer wash the car late in the day, rather than early in the day

Prior Activity Returning from a Camping Trip [PRO0003A]

Car Wash Supervisor

1. 2. Hook up the garden hose. Prepare the car wash solution.

If the windows are open, goto task #3. Otherwise, goto task #4. 3. Close the car windows.

Chief Washer
4. 5. Rinse the car. Wash the car roof, hood, and trunk. 6. Wash the roof first, then the hood and trunk. Rinse thoroughly.

Wash the windows. Use a soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly.

Wash the sides of the car. Wash right and left sides. Scrub front grill.

Scrub back fender. Rinse thoroughly.

Car Wash Supervisor

8. Dry car with chamois. Your chamois must be free of dirt and grease presoaked 9. Clean outside of windows. Spray each window with window cleaner. Dry window immediately with paper towels.

Interior Custodian
10. Clean inside of windows. Spray each window with window cleaner. Dry window immediately with paper towels.

11. Clean dashboard. If children have been riding in the car, goto task #12. Otherwise, goto task #15. 12. Scrape gum off of seats. 13. Spray carpet cleaner on juice spills. 14. Wipe shoe prints off of seat backs. 15. Vacuum the interior of the car. This includes vacuuming the seats and console. End of activity.
