Work Experience
A Chevening Scholarship requires you to have at least two years’ work experience at the time of
submitting your application. Work experience may include full-time, part-time, voluntary and
internship positions.

To start this section, click ‘open’ and complete separate entries for each full-time, part-time,
voluntary and/or internship work experience you have had, starting with the most recent. Please only
include up to fifteen of your most recent work experiences. You will not be able to submit your
application if you exceed this number.
You will need to have the start and end date of each past employment period and the number of
hours you were contracted to work per week.

Your entries will be calculated automatically by multiplying the number of weeks worked by the
number of hours worked per week. For this calculation, a working week comprises 35-60 hours and
a working year comprises 40-50 weeks. Anything that exceeds the upper limit for full-time
employment will be deemed ineligible.

If you are currently in employment the hours for that role will be calculated up to the deadline for the
award.

Are you currently employed in full or part-time work, or a voluntary or internship role?

Leadership and influence

Chevening is looking for individuals who will be future leaders or influencers in their home
countries. Explain how you meet this requirement, using clear examples of your own leadership
and influencing skills to support your answer.
(minimum word count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words)
I am thrilled to apply for this scholarship to enable me study and boost my leadership skills and
influencing my country towards a new generation of young leaders that holds the affairs of the
country at heart. Shortly before leaving for my university studies in Uganda, my ambition is to
acquire new paradigm of life skills and leadership skills that can push my way forward to
becoming an ambassador for my country. This I have achieved in many ways at the university. I
have never allowed diversity to influence my regime in any give opportunity rather I seek for the
common good of all basing on principles and ethical code of conduct without compromise. With
my experience as a class coordinator of the post graduate school, I have been able to represent
the student and the school making sure that issues concerning student and lecturers are resolved
and students learn in a conducive environment. From my childhood, I have always told my
parents that I will one day represent my country in a high authority that’s why during every
election I help my colleagues by psycho-educating them on what true leadership is. This I
summed up as a service for all with accountability and trust even in little because out of the little
more will be added from the examples shown. I believe I am a good leader because all the posts I
have assumed have always being on merit through my actions. Although, I feel that with the help
of this scholarship, it will uplift my status as regards to more effective way of handling things,
different ways of leading groups, communities, nations and as well other life skills that I think I
lack that are necessary for one to become a good leader. This study will be essential in shaping
my way of life and bring out the potentials in me to exercise on international level my leadership
qualities.
Networking
Chevening is looking for individuals with strong professional relationship-building skills, who
will engage with the Chevening community and influence and lead others in their chosen
profession. Please explain how you build and maintain relationships in a professional capacity,
using clear examples of how you currently do this, and outline how you hope to use these skills
in the future. (minimum word count: 100 words; maximum word count: 500 words)
As a leader, I believe life is not lived in a vacuum. I collaborate with individuals and seek for
their opinion in matters of decision. Though it is my signal prerogative to conclude but I believe
in each ones view and together a proper decision is always made. Precisely at school, I have been
able to organise my fellow international student and link them to other universities so that they
can know each other. This has helped them stay connected and update on different seminars and
events that requires student to participate which was not there before. Again, at the place of
work, I have been able to facilitate some project proposals that have helped in the establishment
and expansion of the company through donations. Currently, as a clinical coordinator, I always
work in partnership with other members making sure that staff members are in good relationship
with each other. I have networked through organising meetings for international students
whenever there is an issue to be discussed, I also use social media and emailing to make sure
they are doing well, sending encouraging messages to help them stay focus despite the hurdle
along the journey of academics and studying in a foreign country. This position was given to me
after a month of my office as a counselling psychologist. I have discovered a lot in human
behaviour and if I am giving a chance to take up this course in international relations, I will
further develop my skills in getting to know more about global happening and how to
communicate, stay connected in a diplomatic way. I will look forward to networking with other
international organisations like UN, NGOs, Human right, EFCC, ICPC Just to mention but few
organisations who labour always to maintain peace and order in the society.
Studying in the UK
Outline why you have selected your chosen three university courses, and explain how this relates
to your previous academic or professional experience and your plans for the future. Please do not
duplicate the information you have entered on the work experience and education section of this
form (minimum word count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words)
It is my ambition to become a leader and a political adviser to the Nigeria Parliament. For this
reason, I have chosen to study a Master’s in International Relations starting in September 2020.
Thanks to my fast progress within the Bachelor’s curriculum and the Master I am currently
enrolled in, I have decided that studying and doing research are things I would like to devote
myself to even more. I have studied Human and religious studies as a Bachelor at the University
of Kisubi. It was during my Bachelor that I found out that the interaction between individuals
and their environment is most interesting, intriguing and complex. More specifically, this interest
developed in the direction of politics. After I obtained my Bachelor’s degree, I pursued a Post
Graduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology to deepen my knowledge of understanding the
human psyche and how to handle them. My current Post Graduate Diploma is still insufficient to
all my expectations; I have noticed that in the field of International Relations there are many
factors of influence.
Most interestingly, international relation promotes capacity building. With this being the first, I
want to study so that I can have a better understanding of how to manage humanitarian affairs
and other challenges that are all over the world. By understanding this first as a person, I can be
able to apply it to society. I am intrigued by this programme because it deals with international
conflict and instability, terrorism, climate change, or rapid globalisation.
I chose the UK for its renowned and out-standing academic excellence and as well London
Metropolitan University for its cultural diversity and I want to have exposure to other diversities
and as well learn how they have maintained peace, good security policy framework, crises
management within nations and international par status.
Thanks.
Career Plan
Chevening is looking for individuals who have a clear post-study career plan. Please outline your
immediate plans upon returning home and your longer term career goals. You may wish to
consider how these relate to what the UK government is doing in your country. (minimum word
count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words)
Pursuing a Master’s degree in International Relations will provide me with great insights into
foreign affairs, public policies, international development, economic trends, social issues, law
and many more. With the knowledge of the aforementioned, the major interest that will propel
my studies are:
1. To study and become a good leader. So I will make sure I do an intensive study and as well
research on the best skills that I need to become a good leader and an ambassador for my
country.
2. I want to have exposure to other diversities and as well learn how they have maintained peace,
good security policy framework, crises management within nations and international par status.
3. To learn a good administrative skill to know how to run the affairs of the state properly.
4. To be a Diplomat: In maintaining good relations between countries
as a diplomat, I will represent and protect my nation's interests abroad in terms of politics, trade
and consular services.
5. Become an Intelligence Specialist: I will be gathering state critical information. As an
intelligence specialist, I can work in the national security departments, or almost any state
department, collect and analyse operational intelligence data, conduct mission reports, using
data, maps and charts, evaluate results and prepare reports, statistics and graphics and maintain
intelligence databases, libraries, and files.
6. To work as Political Analyst who will Inform and interpret various political developments,
analyse laws, public policies, and government decisions, advise government officials, political
parties, or the media and forecast political trends and election results.
Upon the completion of my studies, I will work hard in collaboration with other international
bodies to make sure that human welfare is number one without any compromise to their basic
needs. Empowering youths, creating more partnerships, advocate for the provision of
infrastructure and as well creating a forum were young generations conveys their ideas and make
an effective decision that promotes change and societal transformation. In summary, the impact
of my work will all be etched on selfless services for the common good of others and an
egalitarian society that understand the need and importance of human dignity.

Please note that there will be no opportunity to amend these course choices. Therefore, we
recommend that you list courses to which you feel confident you will gain entry.

will be expected to fund the remainder of the fees over the £18,000 cap.
