Conventional Gas-Lift Equipment

Commonly known as tubing retrievable valves, this line of equipment cannot

be retrieved by normal wire line operations. In this product line valves are
threaded on to specially designed mandrels, which are then threaded on to
the tubing string at pre-determined depths.

Application principles and operation are very similar to retrievable equipment.

Advantages of this line of equipment:

• Can be used in smaller ID casing.

• Can be easily assisted using plunger lift without the need to use
specially designed plungers.
• Equipment is relatively cheaper.

Disadvantages of this line of equipment:

• Equipment is not wire-line retrievable, in case of valve failure or

re-design the whole tubing string needs to be pulled out.

Conventional Injection Pressure Operated Valves

Injection Pressure operated valves are designed as normally closed valves

opened by a combination of injection and production pressures. The main
force acting to open these valves is injection pressure acting on the effective
bellows area.

These valves are used either for tubing or casing flow , they are used either in
continuous or intermittent flow applications. Their main component is nitrogen
charged 3-ply monel bellows that provided the necessary closing force.
These bellows are also loaded with an inert dampening fluid to prevent
hydraulic damage as well as valve chater.

Applications:

 Annular Flow in specially designed mandrels

 Tubular Flow
 Intermittent gas lift applications
 Continuous gas lift applications

Main Features:

 Threely monel bellows

 All bellows supplied with dampening inert fluid to prevent valve
chater and bellows collapse in case of extremely high external
pressure.
 Mechanical stops to prevent over compression of bellows and
limit stem travel.
 All our valves are designed, manufactured and tested under
API11V1 specs . (bellows aging, 5 day shelf control, stem travel,
bellows load rate tests, leak rate tests, etc.)
 These valves operate normally as IPO (Injection Pressure
Operated), in standard mandrels, but they may be used as FPO
(Fluid Pressure Operated) valves using a specially designed
mandrel.
 Seats are Monel or Tungsten carbide.
 Stem tips are Tungsten carbide as standard

Standard Operation:

In standard operation (IPO) in tubing or annular flow, injected gas pressure enters
the valve through side ports and actuates on the effective bellows area (Ab), when
the pressure exceed the bellows pressure (Pb) the bellows is compressed, thus
allowing gas to pass through the port and into the fluid column .Fluid pressure also
must be considered acting on the seat area (Av).

Conventional Pilot Operated Gas Lift Valves

Pilot Operated Gas lift valves are used for intermittent tubing flow gas lift. These
valves consist of a pilot section and a power section. The pilot section is composed
of a nitrogen filled three-ply monel bellows that provides the force necessary to
keep this section normally closed. An inconel spring keeps the power section in a
normally closed position.

Applications:

 Intermittent gas lift installations

 Unstable surface injection systems
 Very high rate continuous gas lift
 Intermittent wells where surface controllers cannot be used.

Main Features:

 Three ply monel bellows

 All bellows supplied with dampening inert fluid to prevent valve chater and
bellows collapse in case of extremely high external pressure.
 Mechanical stops to prevent over compression of bellows and limit stem
travel.
 All our valves are designed, manufactured and tested under API11V1
specs (Bellows aging, 5 day shelf control, stem travel, bellows load rate

 Floating Crossover Seats are Monel or Tungsten carbide.
 Stem tips are Tungsten carbide as standard

Note: A wide range of elastomer materials for packings and o-

rings are available on order depending on working environment.

Standard Operation:

Pilot operated gas lift valves are used in intermittent gas lift installation where
standard surface control is not possible. A constant controlled gas rate is
injected into the casing until the valve opening pressure is achieved. At this
point the pilot section opens as well as the power section. Due to the large
effective area of the power section, a large volume of gas passes into the fuid
column providing lift. At this point casing pressure is reduced and the valve
closes until opening pressure is achieved again.

COLT Type Mandrel: Design is based on the CO mandrels but this mandrel
incorporates a side pipe connected to the pocket through which gas is injected in
side pipe gas lift designs where casing or long perforated intervals prove
standard gas lift as inefficient.
