Religious Nationalism and Secular nationalism

Secular nationalism depicts religious nationalism as irrational, violent, and repressive. But they
see themselves as modern rational, peaceful and liberal.
Religious nationalism depicts secular nationalism as immoral, selfish, and remnant of
colonialism. But they see themselves as moral, communal and a form of self-determination.
Dahil dito nag kakaroon ng malaking misunderstanding tungkols sa religion and secularism.
Pero kung titignan ng maayos, yung dalawang yun parehas na concept na may mag kaibang
ideology.
History of secularism
The term “Secularism” finds its origins in the writing of George Jacob Holyoake, who also gave
us the term “jingoism”. He was a non-religious writer, who at different times labelled himself an
Atheist and Agnostic. His conception of secularism is the broad definition, namely, anything of
this world, not involving religion. As he puts it, secularism is: “a form of opinion which concerns
itself only with questions, the issues of which can be tested by the experiences of this life.”

Best way para ma indintihan daw yung secularism ay state secularism, which is the idea that
government should be secular, or as it most commonly express the separation of church and
state.
Based sa mga nabasa ko at napanood ko, sabi dun isa sa mga unang tao na nag advocate sa
separation ng church at state ay nasa bible.
This idea has not been lost on the great Christian theologists. Thomas Aquinas, for example,
distinguished between a good man and a good citizen. And numerous Christian writers, such as
Martin Luther, reference two kingdoms: the God's Kingdom, and the Kingdom of the World.

Republic of turkey – pero yung kasalukuyang president ay isang islamist

United States of America- pero yung pera nila may nakalagay na in god we trust, pati yung
pledge of allegiance nila may phrase na one nation under god.
India – secular din to pero yung mga democratic elected na hindu nationalist nag ka power tapos
unti unti silang nag bigay ng reforms na nag ppromote ng Hinduism.

In summary religious and secular forms of nationalism can only be understood in their particular
social and historical context.
In summary para saken walang masama sa religious and secular nationalism, nag kakaroon lang
ng negative view sa isang ideology dahil nag fofocus sa gusto nila, halimbawa may problema,
kung isa kang religious nag fofocus ka sa ideology mo o paniniwala mo di mo na na iisipin yung
paniniwala ng iba kaya nag kakaroon ng misunderstanding.nagiging masama yung tingin mo sa
opposite ng paniniwala mo. Pero in reality parehong gumagawa ng paraan yung religious at
secular para sa ikakaayos ng problema, nag kakaiba lang sa way kung paano I sosolve yung
problema.
