CHARACTERISTICS OF 21st ASSESSMENT

1.1 RESPONSIVE

1.2 FLEXIBLE
*Why flexibility is included and required in the 21 st century assessment?
>21st century approaches are more versatile.
>Flexibility fits best for the demands of the learning environment at present.
>Assessment may not be fitted to expected answers that’s why teachers
need to be flexible in conducting assessments.

Example: (online class situation) A student cannot thoroughly understand


about the topic because the teacher has a problem with the internet
connection (choppy). So what the teacher did was, s/he provides a narrative
and recorded lesson/instruction which is easy for the student to access,
listen (over and over) and understand.

1.3 INTEGRATED
Assessment- incorporated into day to day practice rather than add on at the
end of instructions.
 Assessments are enriched by metacognition/reflection
1. Ideas, Resources and Strategies
2. Thinking about thinking
3. Self-regulation, memory and study skills
 Assessment is about:
- stimulating thinking
- building on prior learning or knowledge and constructing meaning.
- Activating Prior Knowledge with questions like:
1. What do I already know about this topic?
2. What would I like to learn about this topic?
3. Have I seen this topic on television or in a movie?
4. Have I read about this topic in a book?
5. Does the topic remind me of any experiences I have had?

The assessment offers opportunities for students to:


1. consider their choices
2. identify alternative strategies
3. represent knowledge through different means
4. transfer earlier learning

1.4 INFORMATIVE
1.5 MULTIPLE METHODS
An assessment continuum that includes a spectrum of strategies is a
norm. Students demonstrate knowledge and skills through relevant tasks,
projects, and performances. Authentic and performance-based assessment
is emphasized. There is recognition of and appreciation for the process and
products of learning.

Data must be transparent and comprehensible to all the stakeholders,


which include:
• Report Cards
 routine feedback on their progress
• standard based-comments
• Scores
• Forms
• Or any crucial documents related to the students
 Large-scale measures including all the results of traditional and authentic
assessment include and report on 21st-century skills.
In these trying times, teachers will conduct a consultation to inform
the behavior, standing, and performance of their children.
1.7 TECHNICALLY SOUND


 To be valid, the assessment must measure the stated objectives and
21st-century skills with legitimacy and integrity.
 To be reliable, the assessment must be precise and technically sound
(consistent in administration and interpretation) for accurate info in
making-decision.

1.8 SYSTEMIC
 Affects the whole system like body parts
 comprehensive and well-aligned assessment system that is balanced and
inclusive of all students, constituents and stakeholders and designed to
 support improvement at all levels
