ENVIRONMENT AT PRESENT
Environmental concerns have become part of everyday life. Every day there is more news
about the destruction of forests, pollution in rivers and seas, pollution produced by factories
and the extinction of species that future generations will not know about. All this also
endangers the existence of the human being, that is why it is necessary to carry out
measures in this regard, not only at an industrial level but from our own homes.
When talking about the environment, the first thing that comes to light is economic
activities as the main cause of its degradation. In fact, large factories are the main causes of
pollution at the atmospheric level, as well as in water. They generate gigantic amounts of
toxic waste and substances that are harmful to living beings. They also consume natural
resources in a constant way.
Most efforts aimed at reducing the environmental impacts that occur in our society have
focused on proposing changes in the manufacturing processes of products. So, the industry
already knows terms such as waste management, clean technologies, effluent treatment,
among others. However, an aspect that also has an impact on the environment is often
forgotten, I am referring to the domestic sector.
As final consumers, we have a great responsibility related to environmental degradation on
our planet. Even people who live in big cities have an enormous capacity to transform
production processes, just by selecting the right goods and services to provoke a particular
mass demand. Thus, the choices made by citizens and the way they manage their homes will
have a significant influence, either directly or indirectly, on the environment.
On the other hand, it is also worth mentioning the infrastructural and transportation
requirements that are associated with housing. Which bring consequences in the medium
and long term on the climate and biodiversity, since they threaten the balance that nature
barely tries to maintain.
Unlike other sectors, all these problems have a solution that can be progressively
established in society. In the first place, modifications must be made, depending on the
environment, so that the designs of many buildings do not threaten their stability. Likewise,
people's habits must change, and avoid the introduction of new technologies that, although
advanced, consume too many natural resources. Measures like these are necessary for
sustainable development that allows future generations to bequeath a better world.
