What makes a good online e-poster submission???

A good poster has a clear message, from your research, that speaks directly to those who see
it. It allows the viewer to grab the main message within a few seconds of looking at it, and to
weigh that message against what they already know before they consider the evidence that
you present. Thus it should not be an overcrowded visual, and any accompanying
information should not be dense.
Eg: Do not attempt to provide a full summary of your research paper – choose a few
important findings only. Tell your audience what your poster says and also why it is
important.
Read on to understand how to do this, step by step.
How to submit your poster?

• Technology to use: To make the recording of your poster accompanied by your

voiceover, we suggest using this online tool, which runs in web browsers and can also
be downloaded and installed on your computer:
Screen Recorder - Screencast-O-Matic (see detailed steps at the end of this
document.)
• Making the poster: Add minimal information to convey your main message on the
poster. One major graphic element or composition such as a photograph, graphic art,
infographic, or even a table or pie chart, taking up to 50% of the poster. Take care to
leave enough white space around the graphic element and text, to make your message
stand out visually. Your voiceover will provide any additional details needed.
Additional pages are not allowed.
• Your voiceover: Speak slowly and clearly. Your recorded explanation should build
the big picture: overall context, your findings, and why they are relevant. Zooming in
on data or content and then zooming back out while you are speaking is good.
• Time limit: Your recording should be no longer than 3-5 minutes.
• Language: Please use English as the language for the voiceover and text.
How do I use Screencast?

• Go to the website shown above and click on “Record for Free” as shown below:

• This will download an .exe file called “weblaunchrecorder” on your computer. Install
it and then click on the button Launch Free Recorder (see the image below).
• Follow the instructions to access the Screencast‐O‐Matic Screen Recorder. Once you
have installed the application on your computer, you will see an adjustable outline on
your screen and a settings menu for your recording:

• Note that your mouse will serve as a pointer during the recording to help you show
the part of your poster you are describing. Practice moving your mouse pointer slowly
and deliberately to where you wish the audience to look.
• When you are ready to record, click on the round red button ‘Rec’ to start recording
your poster presentation. Stop recording when you have finished, and save the
recording onto your computer.
• Your recording should not be longer than 3-5 minutes.
