1 Scope
These specification apply for chemical surface treatments with and without mechanical surface treatment of cast iron,
cast steel and grey cast components and of cold rolled or cold drawn steel pipes.
In the specification the measures for the surface treatment1) and for the corrosion protection of the components are defi-
ned.

3 Surface treatment 1)
3.1 Non-characteristic contamination
The components should be cleaned of non-characteristic contamination such as dirt, oil or grease.
For the cleaning process, the following solvents may be used:
- organic solvents not containing (fluoro)chlorinated hydrocarbons
- water-based solvents containing tensides
After cleaning the components should be rinsed using running water and dried.

3.2 Characteristic layers/contaminations

The components should be cleaned of characteristic layers/contamination such as scale or rust.
• Mechanical surface treatment in case of intense contamination by rust: abrasive blasting. Afterwards the blasted com-
ponents should be blown clean using e.g. compressed air.
• Chemical surface treatment for removing oxide layers e.g. scale and/or light contamination by rust: pickling. After-
wards the components should be rinsed with running water, phosphatised and dried.

3.3 Throughput
The throughput of pipe cross sections and inner part passages e.g. in case of holes must be ensured.

4 Protection of the components

4.1 Corrosion protection
Unless otherwise stated in the ordering document, the following corrosion protection medium should by applied to all si-
des in a uniform layer for protection of the components:
• In the case of pipes and components with fits: Water-repelling oil, Deutz KM 31 corresponding to delivery specifica-
tions LV 0161 0156 US 8039-40 available under part number 0100 5327 YY 8521-40.
• Other components: Grease-wax solution, Deutz KM 16 corresponding to delivery specifications
LV 0161 9612 US 8039-40 available under part number 0101 6115 XS 8521-52.

4.2 Protection against contamination by dirt

Pipes:
The pipe ends and passages shall be provided with a permanent protection against ingress of dirt, e.g.
- They should be blanked with caps or plugs
- They are to be covered with an oil-resistant material which is to be fastened by an elastic tape
The elastic tape is available under part number 0100 5515 HY 8534-08
Other components:
Unless otherwise specified in the order documentation, the components should be wrapped in a water repellent pakaging,
for example.
