Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear learners, can continue your
studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are
carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.

Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step as you
discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.

you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to ask your facilitator or
your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson. At the end of each module, you

What is It

Different art media techniques in the Renaissance and Baroque demonstrated the
application of humanistic ideas learned from the ancient. Thus, these techniques are important to
make one’s output more presentable.
During the Renaissance period, Art media techniques can be classified into (3)
three: Fresco, Egg Tempera and Oil Painting.

Fresco Technique is a procedure of wall painting performed upon


reshly wet lime plaster, which the word fresco translates into Italian word
“fresh” means wet when the paint is applied. It is known as one of the most
significant mural-making techniques in history of art during the Italian

Egg Tempera Technique is a method of applying paint to board all


through the early Renaissance. The procedure of color is blended in with
egg, utilizing the white of the egg or the yolk brings about various effects,

Oil Painting Technique is the process of painting in oil colors. Commonly used drying
oil pigments suspended in a medium that dries by evaporation or chemical reaction.

A Baroque masterpiece can be characterized into (3) techniques: Chiaroscuro and Tenebrism.
Chiaroscuro technique is a well-known trait of Baroque art which refers
to the use of light and shadow to the illusion of light from a specific
source shining on the figures and objects in the painting.

Tenebrism, is the use of extreme contrast of light and dark in figurative


compositions to heighten their dramatic effect.

permanent marker, painting materials such as paint brush, paints, and poster color.
Follow the procedures:
1. Paint an artwork in the style of Renaissance or Baroque which promotes either
peace, about nature or any other current issues that you might think about. Give title
and a short description about your artwork.
2. Arrange the objects and different colors as to background, middle ground, and
foreground.
3. Apply color harmonies to achieve proper contrast and values of colors.
