Quality Management

Quality management is the act of

overseeing all activities and tasks
that must be accomplished to
maintain a desired level of
excellence. This includes the
determination of a quality policy,
creating and implementing quality
planning and assurance, and quality
control and quality improvement.
a).- How this stage of the quality WAS BORN
Juran taught quality principles to the Japanese in the 1950s and
was a major force in their reorganization for quality:

● Drive quality from the top management level.

● Train the entire administrative hierarchy in the principles of
quality.
● Strive to improve quality at unusual speed.
● Report progress on quality goals to executive levels.
● Involve the workforce in quality.
● Review the reward and recognition structure to include
quality.
Jurán defined adaptation to use as the
definition of quality, which he attributes to the
fact that quality is related to:

1. The product performance that results in

customer satisfaction.
2. Products without deficiencies, which
avoids customer dissatisfaction.

The search for quality is considered on two

levels:

1. The mission of the company as a whole

is to achieve a high quality of design.
2. The mission of each department in the
company is to achieve high quality
compliance.
Quality Trilogy:
● Quality planning, the preparation process to
meet quality objectives.
● Charity control, the process of meeting
quality objectives during operations.
● Quality improvement, the process of
achieving unprecedented levels of
performance.
Who created this stage?

techniques.

Was a Romanian-born American engineer and management

consultant of the 20th century.

During the I and II World War, he introduced to statistics and

quality control.

As well as Deming, his philosophy influence on Japanese

companies.

d).- Period of time in which this stage was used

Quality management can be divided into five basic stages.

1. Industrialization:

In the First World War, production chains became more complex and simultaneously the role of the
inspector emerged. This era was characterized by inspection, and the main interest was the detection of
defective products to separate them

2. Estadístic control: (1930-1950)

Companies not only show their interest in
inspection, but also in statistical controls. The
enormous mass production required statistical
quality control.
3. First systems (1950- 1980):

In these years, the first quality systems emerged and

companies no longer gave priority to the quantity of
products obtained; the emphasis was now on quality.

4. Strategies (1980-1990):

From this point on, continuous improvement processes are introduced.

Quality, which is now no longer driven by inspectors but by management,

is seen as a competitive advantage.

5. Total quality (90s and up to date):

This stage is known as Total Quality Service.

The customer of the 1990s is only willing to pay for what means
value to him. That is why quality is appreciated by the customer
from two points of view, perceivable quality and factual quality.
