The document discusses the pros and cons of sharing culture with tourists through tourism. Some negative impacts include acculturation where locals adapt to tourist wants and ideals, hybridization of traditional activities to appease tourists, and commodification of culture where authenticity is lost. However, tourism can also positively impact culture by funding preservation of heritage, revitalizing traditions, and keeping cultural activities alive through market recognition. While culture is sometimes harmed, locals, tourists, and businesses all contribute to both protecting and destroying aspects of a host culture through tourism interactions and activities.

tourists. The question of whether the negative effects of tourism on culture exceed the beneficial effects is a hot topic these days. Some argue that because tourism involves various socio-cultural and socio-economic elements, it is difficult to determine how much culture is harmed by tourism and how much culture is protected. According to the broad literature review, tourists, tourism businesses, and hosts are all jointly accountable for destroying or maintaining a culture (Spanou, 2007). Acculturation impacts are the first negative cultural influence of tourism. Acculturation is the process of adjusting and adapting to a new environment (Ebin et al., 2001). When locals entertain visitors, they adapt to their wants, attitudes, and ideals and eventually begin to follow them (Nash, 1996). This is common in less developed societies, as the stronger culture dominates the weaker. The second is hybrid culture, which involves incorporating artificial aspects into traditional dance, music, events, and activities, such as presenting hybrid food instead of traditional salads and three-course dinners instead of appetizers at nighttime shows and creating a bar and disco (Wickens, 1994). Despite their cultural loss, the locals are content with their lives and affluence. They believe that tourists benefit them rather than the locals, thus they must appease tourists (Herrero et al., 2011). Third, cultural commodification causes value to shift from sacred to profane, and from authentic to unauthentic. Tourism has a good impact on culture as well. Tourism as a last option, according to Lantfant (1995), keeps unnurtured or even closed cultural activities alive by recognizing, developing, rediscovering, and connecting them to the international market. Specifically, tourism funds the preservation and conservation of cultural heritage, restore cultural pride, revitalizes customs and traditions, and allows for cultural sharing and learning (Smith, 2009). Increased cross-cultural interaction; understanding, maintaining, and keeping local culture, arts, crafts, and customs; empowering host communities, and enhancing cultural values are among the most prevalent positive effects of tourism on culture. Tourism surely raises awareness among local people who are not involved in their traditional arts and crafts sector by building institutional infrastructure. Tourism keeps these cultural elements alive by establishing some institutional infrastructure. REFERENCESS: Shahzalal , M. (2016).
