LECTIO DIVINA:

Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe

JOURNAL 01

I. Reading (LECTIO)

Read the following Scripture from John

18:33b-37

Pilate said to Jesus, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Jesus answered, "Do you say this on your own or
have others told you about me?" Pilate answered, "I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief
priests handed you over to me. What have you done?" Jesus answered, "My kingdom does not belong
to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my attendants would be fighting to keep me from
being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not here." So, Pilate said to him, "Then you
are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world,
to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice."

II. Meditation (MEDITATIO)

After the reading, take some time to reflect insolence on one or more of the following questions:

1.) What word or words in this passage caught your attention?

- I caught my attention to what Jesus said that “You say I am king. For this I was born and for this I came
into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” He means
that he consistently told the truth and trusted in His heavenly Father regarding the consequences.
Furthermore, Jesus declared that those who belong to the truth will listen to His teachings and obey
him.

2.) What in this passage comforted you?

- About the Pilate said to Jesus that he is the king and came into the world to testify the truth. So, from
John he really means that to this end he was born, and for this cause came into the world, that he
should bear witness unto the truth. To his success bears witness to the value of hard work. I realize that
to make someone doubt something that they were certain was true.
3.) What in this passage challenged you?

- It’s not always easy to believe someone. In the Scripture from John 18:33b-37 John tells the passion
story in a unique way. It begins with the betrayal of Jesus by Judas, a brutal arrest of an innocent man,
and the abuse of power by armed guards. He is the one who was known to the high priest. The
arguments to put him in this position are derived from a narrative analysis of the Gospel.

III. Prayer (ORATIO)

Read the Scripture passage one more time.

Write a kind of prayer (praise, petition, or thanksgiving) based on how the Word inspires in you.

My Lord and my God, take everything from me that keeps me from you. My Lord and my God, give
everything to me that brings me near to you. My Lord and my God, take me away from myself and give
me completely to you. Thank you, Lord, for the blessings you have bestowed on my life. You have
provided me with more than I could ever have imagined. You have surrounded me with people who
always look out for me. You have given me family and friends who bless me every day with kind words
and actions.
