Other importance cases of operating hoist are illustrated by figures in the
Instruction.

1.1.1 Weather and geographic conditions

1.1.1.1Wind
The use conditions of hoist, such as standard height, reaction and pressure of base,
depend on the datum wind velocity of construction site of hoist. The datum wind
velocity (GB50009.2001) is the measured average wind velocity for ten minutes of
plane 10m above the ground.
1.1.1.1.1General condition
The datum wind velocity of running hoist can be confirmed referring to the
“Average Wind Velocity of Countries”.
For the datum velocity area of other places or countries except China, please
contact us.
1.1.1.1.2 Special conditions, such as:
□ No mean wind speed map;
□ The country or region has special provisions or certain circumstances;
□ Altitude higher than the indicated height in average wind speed diagram;

3.2 Introduction to construction hoist principles

SC series construction hoist is commonly divided into two types: cable-drum

and cable-pulley. The product mainly includes: mast (rail racks), drive system,
electrical system, anti-dropping security device, limit devices, electrical control box,
resistance box, hoist cage, power boxes, brace rails, cable sleeve, cable retaining rack,
tie-in frame, cable bracket, installing boom, cable car system.

3-3
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Base Configuration

3.3.1Mast (rail rack):

Rack rail, the running track of construction hoist, is the bolted masts (each
1508mm high) by the 8.8-class M24 × 230 high-strength bolts (installing
pre-tension torque of bolt not less than 300N • m). The mast section is welded from
seamless steel tubes or pipes, angle iron, or cold-formed steel, welded steel pipes. It is
equipped with removable racks (one rack for the single-cage and two racks for the
double-cage) each of which is tightened by three inner hexagonal screws. According
to the different mounting height the main chord thickness of mast section is also
different.
For easy installation and positioning of mast, there are spigots welded at the
lower end of four main chords of mast, and the rack has a cylindrical pin at its bottom.
Main chord center section of mast is 650 × 650mm square cross-section. Rail rack is
attached to the building by tie-in frame.

3.3.2 Drive System

Drive system includes a drive body and the drive unit. The drive body is a
component to connect the driving devices into an overall structure, and it will
transmit the driving force of drive unit to the cage to make it run up and down.
Connecting bolts for drive body and drive unit are 8.8-class high-strength bolts.
As the power part of running construction hoist, the drive unit is working is a
group or several groups at the same time to run the construction hoist weight and
hanging cage load (or construction workers) up and down.
The drive unit is composed by the drive gear, reducer, coupling (plum-shaped
elastic member), motor (with brake) and other components.
The reducer is arc cylindrical worm reducer, with a compact structure, high
carrying capacity, high mechanical efficiency, long life, smooth operation and so on.
Its coupling is flexible jaw type and between the couplings there are two elastic
elements (polyurethane rubber) to reduce the impact and vibration in runtime.
Motor is the disc brake three-phase asynchronous motor for crane. Its brake
electrical magnet can automatically track the wear of brake disc torque of which is
adjustable.
Drive system of variable-frequency construction hoist is equipped with
frequency control system, improving the braking stability; stepless speed can be
achieved within a certain range; the control system can lower the starting current,

3-4
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Base Configuration

reduce the mechanical wear and extend the life of wearing parts, with increased work
efficiency and energy conservation.

3.3.3 Electrical system:

Electrical system is a control port of mechanical operation of construction

hoist and all the actions are manipulated by the electrical system. Electrical system
includes an electrical control box, resistance box, power supply box, cab console, the
main control cables and various limit switches.

3.3.4 Anti-fall safety device:

It consists of a circular cone, brake cone, spring, and centrifugal block and so on.
When a cage over speeds, the centrifugal weight will overcome the pressure of spring,
causing the brake cone to rotate and the shaft joined to brake cone will forward
spirally. The friction force between the brake cone and crust will be increased
gradually ensuring that the cage is stopped smoothly. Meanwhile the stoke switch
acts to power off the cage to keep personnel and equipment safe.
Anti-fall safety device are two kinds: single-tooth and tri-teeth one. The of
tri-teeth anti-fall safety has same brake principle as the single-tooth’s, but has a
relatively large braking torque.
The safety device is adjusted for the required excitation speed and sealed with
lead so it is prohibited to open the safety device without authority.
Security nameplate is marked with the period use, not exceeding one year.
The safety device needs to be sent to the manufacturer or to testing organizations to
re-check and calibrate. Its service life is five years.

Figure 3.1

3-5
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Base Configuration

3.3.5 Limit device:

Limit device includes up and down limit switches and extreme limit switches. For
frequency construction hoist it also includes up and down limit switches of
deceleration.
The up-and-down limit switches act automatically to cut off the power to ensure
the cage to run at a specified location. Up and down limit switches of deceleration
make sure that the speed of construction hoist is reduced from high to low.
Limit switches guarantee the cage be stopped during running to the up and down
limit, through immediately cut off the main power supply leading to failure of the
limit switch, so that the cage not running over-roof and hitting bottom.
Limit switch is not the auto-resetting type, so it must be reset manually.
Users should always check the position accuracy of all limits, to ensure that the
limit and limit switches are accurate in action.

Figure 3.2

3.3.6 Electric control box:

Electric control box is the heart of construction hoist electrical system, and
inside it are components shown in Figure 3.3: running contactor, control transformer,
thermal protection, inverter (VVVF construction hoist) and off-phase and phase
sequence protection relays. Electronic control box is mounted inside the cage. The
electrical control box of variable-frequency construction hoist is usually installed on
the top of the cage.

3-6

3.3.7 Resistance Box

Resistance box is generally fixed on the cage top fence, and the resistance is
used to consume energy reacted to transducer when the frequency construction hoist
runs up and down.

3.3.8 Cage:
Cage is a steel structure, run along the mast rail frame by cage rollers. It has
entrance and exit door which are vertical drawer door.
On cage top is equipped with a movable door, through a dedicated ladder,
personnel can be easily climb to the top of the cage for installation and maintenance
in which the cage top can be considered as a working platform, surrounded by the
guardrails.
Fitted with an electrical interlock, the cage will stop working when the cage
door is open to ensure the safety of personnel in hanging cage.
There is a cab for the driver at one side of the cage. All operation switches are
located in the cab.
There are 14 guide rollers running along the mast rail frame cage.

3.3.9 Power Box:

Power Box is the power supply portion of construction hoist control and
mounted on the brace fence.

3.3.10 Brace fence:

Brace fence includes two parts: chassis and guard rail:

Brace is a welded structure of profile steel and steel plate, surrounded by
protective fence coupled with the ground, and the central part is the base seat of mast
frame. It can withstand all the loads from the construction hoist. In installing, the base
chassis fastened together with base by embedded bolt parts.
Guard rail: a welded structure of profile steel, steel plate and steel mesh will
surround the host part of construction hoist to form a closed area, so that there is no
one enters the area during operation. At the entrance of protective fence there is a
fence door which is equipped with mechanical and electrical interlocks.
The current chassis fence is the combined type. The cable reel and cable car type
chassis fence can be interchanged by increasing the bending steel shown in the
following Figure. The doorsill height of 450 and 900 can be adjusted to each other.节

3.3.11 Cable sleeve:

Cable sleeve is used to collect and release cable part. Due to the great impact
of wind, it is usually used only for installation height of not more than 100m and the
wind force is small.
When the cage is running upward, the cage drives the main cable inside the
cable sleeve upward;
When the cage is running downward, the main cable is slowly collected into
cable sleeve, to prevent accident caused by the main cable scattered on the ground to
be rolled.

3.3.12 Cable retaining rack:

Cable retaining rack is used to ensure the safe operation of cable. When the hoist
is in operation, please ensure that the cable is in the retainer of cable retaining rack to
prevent the cage is twined with other equipment nearby during operation.
When installing the cable retaining rack, make sure that the cable retaining rack
and cables can be wound smoothly through the retainer.

3.3.13 Tie-in frame:

The tie-in frame is the coupling member between mast fames and buildings, in
order to maintain the stability of mast frame and the whole structure of construction
hoist.

3.3.14 Cable bracket:

Cable bracket is the drag device carrying the main cable to run up and down.
The main cable is drawn by the cable bracket, safely through cable retainer to prevent
the cable from being scratched to any accident.
Cable bracket can pick the main cable out the fence so that the main cable is
securely collected into cable sleeve.

3.3.15 Installing boom:

Installing boom is an indispensable component to achieve adding and reducing

mast.
Having installed the foundation, you can use the boom to add masts on the top of

3-9
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Base Configuration

the installed mast.

The boom, the boom can be used to remove the mast frame sequentially from
top to bottom in the demolition work.

1. The rated load of installing boom is 200kg. Don’t overload;

2. Don’t hanging heavy objects when the construction hoist is in operation.
3. After the construction hoist has been installed or dismounted, the
installing boom must be removed from the top of the cage.

3.3.16 Cable car system:

When the construction hoist is high, it will be greatly influenced by supply

voltage, wind and gravity so it can adopt a cable car system, which is mounted on at
the bottom of the cage, simple in structure and easy in installation. The mast rack is
the running track not only of cage but also of cable car so the wind impact on it is less.
Hence it is used widely and there is still a kind of combined type of cable car and the
right and left cages are interchangeable.

4 Base configuration
Before use, calculate the load on base and base configuration according to the
Item 5.1.10 “Base of construction hoist should be capable of bearing all load at the
worst condition.” in Standard (GB/Tl0054-2005): Construction Hoist.

4.1Calculation of base bearing capacity P

P  nG
In formula P: foundation bearing capacity (N)
n: the safety factor n = 2, considering the running dynamic load, wind load
and impact of counterweight error on the base
G = cage weight (including drive system) + cage rated load + chassis frame
fence weight + rack rail weight + accessory weight + tie-in frame weight +
counterweight weight (kg)
When converted into gravity: 9.8 · G (N) that is:
P=0.02·G(kN)
Calculation example:
Example: Installing SC200 / 200-type construction hoist to erection height: 150m;
ⅡD type tie-in frame;
Base Model CM6238
Cage weight (including drive system): 2000 × 2 = 4000 kg
Cage rated load: 2000 × 2 = 4000kg
Chassis guardrail weight: 1300kg
Rail frame weight: l45 × 100 = 14500kg
The weight of power cable, the cable guide, fasteners and other accessories is
approximately 2000 kg,
ⅡD tie-in frame weighs approximately 146 × 16 = 2336kg
Counter weight: O kg (None)
Therefore: P = (4000 + 4000 + 1300 + 14500 ++ 2000 + 2336) · 0.02
= 562.72kN
Conclusion: The maximum load can be carried by the concrete foundation and
ground foundation is 563kN;
Area set according to CM6238 type base is 23.56 m 2 , so the maximum bearing
capacity of concrete foundation and ground foundation is 562.72 /
23.56≈23.88≈0.024 MPa.

5.1 Configuration of guide frame

If the erection height of hoist is different, the configuration of masts is also

different as well as the thickness of mast main chord. Conversion section is
needed to connect masts with different thickness of main chord.
Examples for selection of mast specification:
If the mounting height of rack rails is 500m, according to “5.1
Configuration of Thickness of Mast Main Chord”:
Φ76 × 4.5, mounting height of 140m, mast section number is 93 (including a
conversion section)
Φ76 × 6.0 mounting height of 120m, mast section number is 80 (including a
conversion section)
Φ76 × 8.0 mounting height of 120m, mast section number is (including a
conversion section)
Φ76 × 10.0 mounting height of 120m, mast section number is 500 / 1.508- (80 +
80 + 93) = 79
If the height of the rail frame exceeds 500m, the standard
configuration of the main chord thickness is as the one provided
by us.

In order to distinguish the masts of different thicknesses conversion section, it

has a number and a small piece with different colors on the non-rack mounting
surface at each intermediate section of mast. So please be careful in installation!
Specifically identified as follows:
1. Mast section of Φ76 × 4.5 makes no treatment
2. Blue paint around the number 6 of thickness is required for mast section of
Φ76 × 6.0;
3. Orange paint around the number 8 of thickness is required for mast section of
Φ76 × 8.0;
4. Green paint around the number 10 of thickness is required for mast section of
Φ76 × 10.0.
Conversion section:

5.2 Type and selection of tie-in frame

The tie-in frame of construction hoist has four types to meet the user's actual
needs for construction site (each type also has a variety of specifications can be
combined) .Various types of tie-in frame are suitable for:
a) Ⅰ-type tie-in frame: only for single-cage construction hoist.
b) Ⅱ-type tie-in frame: for single-cage or double-cage construction hoist, either
with counterweight or without counterweight, and either with cab or without cab.
When there are scaffolds or connection platforms, the tie-in frame can replace the Ⅲ
–type to use.
c) Ⅲ-type tie-in frame: use scope is same as the type Ⅱ. The tie-in frame must
be configured with vertical rod of passage, short front support and bridge link (effect:
to place the connection platform directly on rack rails).
e) Ⅳ-type tie-in frame: for single-cage or double-cage construction hoist without
counterweight and cab.

5.5 Calculation of force F of tie-in frame to wall

Users should also confirm the force of tie-in frame on pre-embedded parts and
bolts of building to select right parts and bolts (generally high-strength M24 bolts of
8.8 class) when planning the configuration of construction hoist according to Table
5.1 of The Largest Interval of Tie-in Frames L1 and The Maximum Height of Boom
End L2 and L and B values of tie-frames. At the same time, it is required to collate
the force on attached walls, beams or cylinders to ensure that the adhesion is safe and
reliable.
Its force F is calculated according to the following formula:
F=L×60/B×2.05(KN)
For example:
ⅡD-type tie-in frame,

5-11
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Rail Rack and Tie-in Frame

6.3.3 Installation of lifting cages, drive system, roof rails and installing boom
a) Put a sleeper or other steel materials on the chassis fence (height greater than
the height of the spring cushioning device);
b) A mounting staff needs to stand on the top of rack rails rail rack, directing
and guiding the alignment of cage and drive systems. Place the lifting cage from
the top of rack rails slowly on the prepared sleep or steel material using crane
equipment (truck crane or tower crane). Then install another cage in the same
way.
c) Release the brakes for three motors on the drive system, and the method is:
tighten the two nuts on the brake (be sure to make the two nuts parallel
precession) until the brake disc can be easily pulled up if the brake is released;
use the lifting equipment to drop the drive system slowly from the cage top.

6.3.4 Counterweight installation (for hoist with counterweight)

a) For construction hoist with counterweight, install and position the

counterweight on rack rails before increasing the height of rack rail frame.
b) Mount the buffer spring device directly below the counterweight and then lift
up the counterweight device to put the guide rollers into the rack frame from the top
of counterweight rack frame so that the counterweight device would stably be placed
on the sleeper. As for a single-cage construction hoist, the column tube of rack rail
frame to the opposite of cage is regarded as the guide rail frame of counterweight.
Adjust the eccentric shafts of four guide rollers of counterweight so as to get that the
total gap of each pair of guide rollers and the column tube is 0.5mm.
6.3.5 Increasing the height of the rail frame to 10.5 meters. After installation of
tie-in frame, increase the height to 15 meters.
Assemble three masts on the ground with bolts by tightening torque 300N · m
and lift them onto the installed mast connecting them together by bolts of tightening
torque 300N · m.
After the rail frame is heightened to 10.5 meters, set up the first tie-in frame at
the position of 9m off the ground (conduct the installation according to the
requirements described in section 6.6) and check the verticality of the frame in two

6-8
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Installation and Debugging

vertical directions with a theodolite or other detection equipment. If the verticality

error of rack rails ≤5mm, continue to heighten it to 15 meters.
When the rack frame is too high, the wall thicknesses of mast
main chord are different. Referring to Figure 5.1 for standard
configurations of thickness of mast main chord wall for the
installation.

6.4 Installation of electrical equipment, control system and overload protection

device

6.4.1 Installation of electrical equipment and control system

a) Installation of power cable of construction hoist is related to the adopted cable

guide. Normally, there are two forms: cable sleeve type and cable car type which is
divided into one-cable car and two-cable type
b) Use the site-supplied cable (≥25 ㎜ 2) to connect the power supply boxes on site
and of chassis fence. Fix one end of cable on the power supply box of chassis fence
and the other end to the terminals of junction box in cage via cable bracket.
□ For cable sleeve type, put the cable directly in cable sleeve according to
the cable sleeve installation;
□ For cable car type, there are two situations in the following:
1. If it has one power cable for power supply directly perform the above steps;
2. If it has two cables of different cross-sectional size for power supply, (the
larger cross-section cable is the fixing cable on mast rail frame and the smaller
one is the attached cable running up and down together with the cable car)
then take the attached cable to perform the above procedure.
c) Connect the motor wire of drive system to its corresponding position in electronic
control box and insert the cage top operation box (7-core plug) into its corresponding
position in electronic control box (in normal operation, the cage top operation box
cannot be removed).
For frequency construction hoist, its electrical control box is mounted on top of
the cage and the operation button assembly of cage top is on the electronic control
box.
d) Switch on the power switch of power box of chassis fence and close the outer
fence and skylights doors for operation on the cage top. Turn the switch of the cage
top operation box to cage top position and joggle the operation box to test whether the
power phase sequence is correct (when jogging the UP button, if the drive system

6-9
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Installation and Debugging

rises it means the phase sequence is correct, otherwise the phase sequence is reversed,
thus you need to exchange the wiring position of phase sequence).
f) Install a limit switch on the chassis fence
g) Check the safety control switches: including switches of hanging cage door limit,
skylight door limit, up and down limit, deceleration limit (inverter construction hoist),
extreme limit, chassis fence door limit and rope-breaking protection. All switches
should be can sensitive in action and flexible to open and close.
h) Use a ground resistance tester to measure the grounding resistance of steel and
metal casing and electrical equipment of construction hoist must not be greater than 4
;
With a 500V megger measure the insulation resistance of motors and electrical
components should be not less than 1 M .

During all the wirings, you must cut off the power.

6.4.2 Mounting of overload protection device

a) Operate the drive system for running up-and-down taking advantage of

operational box at cage top and to align with connection ear plates of drive car
and cage, inserting overload sensing pin and cotter pins which need to be
opened.
b)Connect the wire connect terminals of sensor pin and overload host machine.

c) Refer to “overload protection Manual” for overload protection setting. When

the actual weight of cage reaches up to 95% of its rated load, the warning
function is achieved and the warning lamp is lit, with intermittent buzzer
sounds; when the actual weight of cage reaches up to 110% (the parameter
cab be set) of its rated load, the warning function is achieved and the warning
lamp is lit. Consequently the relay will act and the buzzer produces
continuous sounds.

cams by hook bolts on mast frame of rail frame; the installation position of
extreme limit switch cam cage must ensure the cage will move before the
buffer spring acts).
Frequency construction hoist must install a deceleration cam at the bottom
surface of deceleration limit, 200mm lower than the top surface of down limit, as
Figure 6.17.
b) After having finished the steps in 6.4 and a), power on the hoist to do the
commissioning. A full-time driver is needed to operate the operating handle carefully
to run the empty cage along the guide rail rack for several times with stroke not more
than 5m. During the process, the cage should be smooth and
stable in running, no beating and no failures and brake works
well. Meanwhile further examination is necessary for contact
condition of guide rollers and rail frame, as well as the
engagement of gear and rack.
□ The engagement clearance of gear and rack should be
0.2 ~ 0.5mm;
□ The clearance of gear and back side of rack should be
0.5mm;
□ The clearance of rollers and mast vertical pipes is
0.5mm.
c) After confirming the load test is normal, load the cage
with rated load to commission the hoist, checking the
heat condition of motor and reducer;

Figure 6.17
Be careful during the commissioning due to the up limit baffle on
top of rack rails is still not installed yet.
In the inspection, you must press the emergency stop button or
turn off the power to avoid misuse.

6.6 Hoist commissioning

After positioning the construction hoist (rail rack height less than 15 meters),
power it for commissioning inspection.
Before the inspection, make sure that the power supply and voltage of
construction site should meet the requirements; leakage protection device should be

6-12
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Installation and Debugging

sensitive and reliable. Rotation direction, starting and braking of motor in hanging
cage should be properly and effectively; supply phase protection, power limit, upper /
down limit, upper / down limit of deceleration, the doors and emergency power-off
limit switch should be sensitive and reliable.

6.6.1 Clearance adjustment of guide roller

Adjust the drive system and eccentric shaft of cage roller to place the two
vertical rods and drive system symmetrically set with respect to mast. The clearance
of rollers and the vertical pipe of mast is 0.3~0.5mm. All bolts must be tightened
after adjustment.

Figure 6.18

6.6.2 Clearance adjustment of gear and rack

The clearance of gear of hoist and its running rack should be guaranteed as
required. Check the engaging clearance using the lead law to make sure it is between
0.2 ~ 0.5mm. Specifically, adjust the positions of drive plate and the safety board (i.e.:
engagement clearance), and tighten bolts after the relevant adjustments.

6.6.3 Clearance adjustment of back wheel and rack

Each back wheel on construction hoist should be symmetrically

set with respect to the back center. The mounting clearance of back
wheel and the back of rack is 0.5mm. Specifically, it needs to adjust
the eccentric sleeve of back wheel and then bolts of back wheel
should be tightened after adjustment.
Figure 6.19

6.6.4 Adjustment of cable car

Place the cable car of hoist on the ground to adjust the eccentric shaft of its
guide wheel so that the corresponding track clearance of guide wheel is 0.5mm. Make

be coated with grease. Align with the lifted mast with the mast below it and insert
is into the interface hole. Then tighten all bolts with no less than 300N · m
torque;
f) While heightening the rail frame, you should install the tie-in frame;
□ For construction hoist without counterweight, the pipe ends of four main
chords of its top mast must be installed with rubber sealing sleeve;
□ If there is suitable lifting equipment on site, it is alternative to assemble three to
four masts into a whole on the ground and then directly install the whole to the
top of the rack frame.
g) You should check the verticality of whole rack frame in two perpendicular
directions using a theodolite or other testing equipment after increasing the height of
the guide frame about every 10m. The vertical deviation requirement of rail
rack-mount is shown in Table 6.1. Adjust the rack frame as long as any tolerance is
found.

pulley rail and stop it at the bottom of the rail frame (Referring to Figure 6.39).
f) Install the pulley rail upward and bolt the pulley rails with each other and fix
them by connecting bars together with mast rail frame every 4.5m (connecting ways
as previous). If adjustment is needed, place gaskets between the connecting rod and
the rail frame. Before tightening of upper and lower pulley rail frames by bolts, check
the gaps at joints of pulley rail to make sure the gap is at the range of 1mm to 3mm.
g) Previously tighten the guide piece of cable retaining frame individually and the
contact pressure is 10.20N (using plate spring).
□ Double-cage hoist, bolt the cable retaining wire frame A / B on rail frame
about every 3 m (Referring to Figure 6.40);
□ Single-cage lifts, the mounting pitch of each pair of cable frame A and B on
the cable car is about six meters.
□ The mounting of cable frame A and B shall ensure the cage boom can pass
through between the two guide pieces.
□ Heighten the pulley rail frame to the position of 4.5 m beyond the half of the
maximum predetermined height.
h) Place the fixing cable on cage top and release some
cable of length sufficient connected to ground
power box. Then drive cage upward gradually to
release the required fixing cable which should be
fastened every 1.5 meters with a cable clamp to the
rail frame until about 1.5 meters above the top of
the cable car rail. Fix the cable end on the rail
frame and bundle the rest cable. Then hang the
bundle on the rail frame and fasten it firmly.

terminals of junction box in cage. Stop the trolley at about 0.5 meters from the
ground and bind the spare attached cable on the fence of cage top. Turn on the
main power (Referring to Figure 6.41).
n) Mount a cable retaining rack frame A every nine meters on guard rail frame
above the pulley rail frame.
o) Lubricate the rail frame and pulley shaft with grease.
6.12.3.2 Phased heightening and installation of cable guide of pulley rail
When construction hoist is erected in phased process, if the rail rack frame is
less than half its pre-erected height, the mounting height of pulley rail should be 4.5
meters lower than the top of the rail frame.
That is: If the first erection height of rail frame is 30 meters, pulley rail should
be installed to 25.5 meters. Install the cable guide for pulley rail with such height.
When the rail frame is heightened to 25.5 + 25.5-4.5 = 46.5 meters, you need to
install a cable wire frame every 6 meters on rail frame above the pulley rail. And the
fixing cable and attached cable are not necessary to be lengthened. When the rail
frame height is over 46.5 m, the fixing cable and attached cable are necessary to be
lengthened. Similarly, the block must be heightened to guide rail brackets at the top
of 4.5 m or less. Namely: the pulley rail should be heightened to 4.5m below the mast,
i.e. the installing height of pulley rail is 4.5m
less than the half of the maximum set height
of mast rail frame.
Heightening procedures of cable guide as
follows:
a) Stop the cage at the pulley rail top and

6-35
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Installation and Debugging

slightly loosen the cable clamp of cable bracket of the cage to pull out the
segment of attached cable originally placed on cage, with its length equal to
the height of rail frame to be heightened. Then, fasten the cable clamp.
b) Drop the cage and release the strapped cable on the rail frame and drag the
previous left cable to cage top. Mount the uninstall tools on the attached cable
under cable fixing frame and then hang the cable on the cable bracket. Later
remove the cable fixing frame from the rail frame and place it on the cage top
(Referring to Figure 6.42). Figure 6.42
c) Drive up the cage in several steps and fix the every 1.5m segment of fixing
cable onto the rail frame by cable clamps until 3m to the top of rail frame.
Then install the cable fixing frame to hang the spare cable bundles onto the
rail frame.
d) Remove the dismantling tools for attached cable on the entry frame of cage.
e) Heighten the pulley rails to 1.5 meters under the cable fixing frame and install
the wire frames A, B and C as required.
When driving the cage up and down, operators should be at the cage
top and stand in safe place;
When installing, if you need to press the emergency stop button all the time you
must cut off the main power supply on the ground.

6.13 Installation of Floor-call system

Each floor should be set with the floor call system for communications of hoist
operators. If users need to configure the floor call systems, install it in the following
manner, with reference to the specific installation methods in “Hoist Floor Call
System Operating Instructions”.
a) Connect three wires from the red, yellow and blue terminals of extension unit
in power box, and along the building height direction fix the wires on the building.
b) Install extensions on each floor to connect with the wires of three colors.
c) Install a transmitter head every 50 to 80 meters on the building close to the rail
frame and connect its red, yellow and blue wires together with the three-colored wires

switch in operation remain active. Handle have four shifts of speed: upward at
low-speed, upward at high-speed, down at low-speed and downward at high-speed.
Pull the handle in the desired direction to start the cage and when the cage is going to
reach the desired high speed, switch the handle to low-speed. Then set the handle in
the “zero” position, thus the cage will be stopped
□ During switching actions of up and down, interval of more than three
seconds is needed otherwise the PLC will determine the situation as abnormal
operation and the hoist cannot move.
Operate the operational box of cage on the cage top (operation button assembly
of top cage of frequency construction hoist is installed on the electrical control box on
cage top of the);
As an exception occurs during operation, such as the electrical system loses
control, immediately press the emergency stop button and don’t open it the fault is
excluded;

7.2.2 When the cage cannot start, check the following items.

a) The ground power switch is in the "on" position. Cage electrical lines should
be energized;

f) Fuse should be intact (or circuit breaker should be switched on).
After the above checks and taking appropriate actions, if the hoist still cannot
start, deal with the situation according “maintenance” section in Chapter 9.

7-3
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Operations and Use

7.2.3

When the cage of construction hoist is stopped suddenly in running due to a

power failure or other electrical failures (fuses, motor thermal relay), it’s better to
manually release the brake if there is no good solution, and the manual operation
must be performed by trained professionals, as follows:
When the drive system is adopted with only one motor, pull out slowly the
manual release handle or rod of brake at the
tail of motor to lower the cage slowly.
When there are two or more motors
for drive system, you need to use the
jacking rod to jack up and release the brake
of one motor or brakes of more motors, left
one motor for manual release operation. Figure 7.2
During the process to release brakes, do it set by set; if you find the cage fell
during the releasing process, cancel releasing immediately to recover the braking. At
this time the situation may be:
1. After releasing the brake of one motor or brakes of more motors, the
combining torque of rest brakes is not sufficient to stop the cage, especially in the
case of full load.
2. There may be some part of rest brakes badly worn, or even lost the ability to
brake.
If encountering this situation, you can exchange the brake or the order of release.
If encountering the following situation, you need to release several brakes at the same
time, for example: if drive system has three motors, the cage decline occurs upon
release of the second motor, it requires the operator to manually release the two
brakes simultaneously to decline.
Manually release brake in discontinuous way and the cage falling at each
time should be short, not exceeding the normal speed limit of hoist. If
over speed, the anti-fall safety device will act to stop the cage. In this case
the anti-fall safety device must be reset before cage falling again. After
falling every 20 meters, stop l minute to allow the motor brake to be
cooled. In the job on cage top you should pay attention to safety.

7-4
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Operations and Use

7.2.4

If the construction hoist bear heavy loads and the motor brake is worn (insufficient
braking torque) to let the cage down to the power limit switching position, and the
three-phase power supply is cut off so as to the cage cannot run up based on the
power, you should rotate the boom of limit switch to a certain distance to reset the
limit switch to drive the cage rise up and re-adjust the boom distance of limit switch
so that it can effectively contact with limit cam.

7-5

9 Maintenance
Construction hoist maintenance is divided into maintenance for electrical and
mechanical systems.
Maintenance personnel for construction hoist must have relevant qualification
certificate.

9.1 Check failure of electrical system

When carrying out maintenance for cage, you should cut off the power
supply;
For frequency construction hoist, start the repair for it only after 10
minutes since the main power off.
Construction hoist maintenance personnel should use a multimeter to check the
electrical system. Specific inspection procedures are as follows:
a) Before the diagnosis of electrical system failure, maintenance personnel must
understand all of the principles of electrical schematics and the structures and
functions of components should have on the electrical schematics. At the same time
confirm the following procedures:
□ Confirm stop control circuit is not disconnected; Namely the thermal relay has
not been activated;
□ Contacts of safety devices, such as micro-switch of anti-fall safety device,
hanging cage door switches, outer fence door switch and others, should be closed;
□ Confirm the emergency stop button is not pressed;
□ Make sure the power limit switch is not off;
□ Confirm the up and down limit switches are intact and correct in action.
b) At the stop on the ground, confirm the three-phase power supply of power box
on the ground is powered.
c) Confirm that when the main switch (automatic air switch) of power box on the
ground is turned on, the main contactor inside the box is switched on and the output
cable is energized.
d) Identify the breakdowns of electrical system in cage after the power is turned
on.
e) Connect the voltmeter between the zero terminals and the terminal indicated in
electrical schematics, check to make sure all parts required to be powered is energized.
Check the terminals one by one to find out the fault using exclusion method.
f) Check the manipulation buttons and controls to confirm the commands of “up”
and “down” (voltage) should be properly sent to the electrical control box.

9-1
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Maintenance

g) Test run the cage to ensure that the main contactor solenoid of up and down
running is energized (started) and that the brake contactor is activated (brake coil is
energized) and brake is in operation.
h) In terms of lighting and other auxiliary circuits, clear the troubles according to
the above procedures.

The main component of an electromagnetic disc brake is a DC electromagnet,

mounted with a movable brake disc with brake pads which can freely move axially.
Two fixed brake disc (in which are the solenoid / armature automatically tracking the
brake pads).
The distance between the electromagnet and the armature is for maintaining a
constant (Referring to Fig. 9.1).
□ When the solenoid coil (3) is not energized, the brake is applied to the brake
torque so that the brake spring (7) via the axially-free armature (5) press the
brake pad (10) against the fixed brake disc (17). When the solenoid coil is
energized the brake will be released.
□ With the wear of brake pad (10), the brake can be sustainable for automatic

9-6
Operation Instruction of SC Series Construction Hoist Maintenance

adjustment, i.e., automatically close to the rotatable brake disk (8) by the
armature (5) and the electromagnet frame. The distance between the
electromagnet and the armature is constant.
□ You must replace the brake disc and the brake pad when they are worn to a
certain extent. (Referring to Figure 9.1)
9.4.2.1 Manual brake-releasing of brake
When necessary, the brake can be manually brakes. The brake-releasing
program:
a) Pull the brake-releasing handle at the end of brake to a certain extent, the brake
can be loosed.
b) Tighten the bolts at tail of brake in the method in Figure 6.9 until the brake
spring (7) fails to press the armature (5). Then the brake is loosed.
We have been adjusted the braking torque of brake for delivery.
Therefore, do not easily change it when manually releasing brake.

9.4.2.2 Replacing brake pad

The brake pad (10) must be replaced when the gap is less than 0.5mm between
the rotatable brake disk (8) and the armature (5). Replace the pad as follows:
