ASSIGNMENT 7

Name: Amparo Ivy Year/Course/Section: BSTM-1A

Professor: Mercy Morales Date:
Subject: Readings in Philippine History

Instructions:
Write a three-paragraph position paper stating your STAND on the proposed implementation of
federalism in the Philippine government.

Federalism is a system of government in which the same territory is controlled by two

levels of government. Generally, an overarching national government is responsible for the

broader governance of larger territorial areas, while the smaller subdivisions, states, and

cities govern the issues of local concern. Both the national government and the smaller political

subdivisions have the power to make laws and both have a certain level of autonomy from each

other.

I believe that the implementation of Federalism in our nation will benefit everyone. For

example, everyone has their own perspectives and understandings of every situation they will

face in their community, town, province, or even district. There will be two levels of governance

at work. Many characters, particularly mayors and kagawads, are capable of large tasks and

duties. Among the most important systemic and fundamental constitutional reforms that must be

implemented in order for the Philippines to improve, Federalism, the change that has the greatest

widespread support among ordinary Filipinos is federalism. Federalism is highly accepted and

understood even by common citizens.

And also, it can also allow people, such as mayors, to establish their own laws and

regulations in their area. I agree with Federalism because I know that each area, province, and

location in our nation may live by their own rules and administer their own governance for their

own people because a federalism government offers many options and can benefit a large

number of people.
