*Words of Grace and Mercy
From generation to generation, God’s love overcomes human
sinfulness. God is committed to fresh starts and new creations. This is
good news!
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!

Eternal are thy mercies, Lord; eternal truth attends thy word:

Everything longed for in this text is a reminder of how far our present world is from what God wants. Yet
this is not just wishful thinking; it is a call to action, a summons to participate in the fulfillment of God’s
desire for all earth’s people to live in radical shalom.

Welcome to First Congregational Church of Evanston, UCC

Welcome to First Congregational Church of

Evanston (UCC)!
We are glad you chose to be with us on this Sunday
morning! And we want you to know that no matter
who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you
are welcome here!

Childcare is provided in the downstairs nursery for infants and children to

age 5. The space at the back of the Sanctuary available for our families.
Children K-6 are invited to Sunday School in the Church House after the
Children’s Message.

Please sign the Attendance Pads in the pews. We invite our visitors to
include your name, address and email so that we might acknowledge your
visit with a card. All are welcome to join us after services in the narthex or
outside for refreshments and conversation.

Babies and Toddlers: Little ones enrich our community and add vibrancy
to our congregation. Please don't fret about coos or cries during the
service. All ages are welcome here. Visit our rocking chair area to find
books & coloring pages for use during the service, or drop off infants to 3
year-olds with our Nursery Supervisor. She'll take little ones outside to Raymond
Park during the summer, or downstairs to our nursery on the lower level during
inclement weather.

Children: After the Children's Message, all youth are invited to head outside with
our adult & teen volunteers to play in Raymond Park during worship for Summer
Spirit. On inclement weather days, leaders take children downstairs to our library
or fellowship hall for crafts & games. At the end of the service, leaders bring
children back to the sanctuary to join their families for fellowship.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Book Discussion Group – How Not To Be Afraid by Gareth Higgins

In “How Not To Be Afraid” Irish storyteller, activist, and

creative convenor Gareth Higgins explores seven common
fears, inviting us to change the course of our stories through
seven habits of hope and action for the common good.

How Not to be Afraid is ripe for the moment in which we find

ourselves. If you’re feeling afraid, and want to consider an option beyond
fight, flight, or freeze - an alternative that might actually transform our
experience of fear into something better, come on in. You’re not alone.

Pick up a copy of the book wherever you get your reads and join your
fellow FCCE travelers on Tuesday, July 26 at 7 pm at the Church House for
a conversation in courage and hope.
Evanston Currently "MEDIUM RISK": Masks Required

FCCE's Regathering Committee continues to meet and review

recommendations from the City of Evanston, the CDC, as well as to center
the needs of our most vulnerable to best keep us all safe and included in
response to COVID. Due to Evanston recently being designated as
"medium risk" for community spread of COVID-19, masks are again
required in the sanctuary and church house. Thank you for your
understanding, compassion, and flexibility as we respond to changes as
they arise. We also plan to keep sanctuary windows open for extra
ventilation. Refreshment time following worship will take place in the church
entryway with the doors wide open, as well as outside on the front steps
and sidewalk to welcome our community to join us in fellowship. We
continue to strongly encourage vaccination and boosting to everyone who
is eligible.

Add A Ribbon To Our Weaving

Our community weaving project began on Celebration
Sunday under the expertise of Rhonda Storm. Help us
complete this collaborative art piece showing how we are
woven together as a church community by adding a bit of
ribbon or yarn to our loom. All ages are invited to
participate. Find the loom and supplies in the narthex.
See Rhonda Storm or Sarah Petersen for help.

Volunteers Needed for Summer Spirit!!

We need your help!! Adult and teen volunteers are still needed each
Sunday this summer to head outside to Raymond Park with our Nursery
Supervisor, Kelly Tran, and all the young people who would like to play
outside during worship. Find the sign up sheet in the narthex, the weekly
email, or contact Sarah Petersen. Enjoy the fresh air, help give our
hardworking Sun School teachers a break, and get to know our awesome
young people during free play time outside at Summer Spirit.
