In what ways does environmental degradation related to occurrence of disasters in the country.

According to the study, environmental degradation is the downturn of the environment through
depletion of resources like the quality of air, water and soil; the destruction of ecosystems; habitat
destruction; the extinction of wildlife; and pollution. They also defined it as disturbance to the
environment that seemed to be destructive or undesirable. Additionally, the United Nations International
Strategy for Disaster Reduction defines environmental degradation as "the reduction of the capacity of the
environment to fulfil social and ecological objectives, and needs". To make it short, it is considered as
one of the threats in our ecosystem if we are not going to protect and do environmental resources
management. Due to the changes to the environment, it can influence the frequency and intensity of
hazards, as well as our exposure and vulnerability to these hazards.

The definition of environmental degradation makes it possible that it can harm us and make a
disaster possible. One example is land deforestation of slopes often leads to an increase in landslide
hazard and removal of mangroves can increase the damage caused by storm surges. If we continue to do
mining that can harm our ecosystem, there is a big chance that environmental degradation will occur.
Now, if we are going to check the water degradation, it is said that one major problem is the loss of the
resource of fresh water on Earth. For instance, most of us depend on freshwater, such as it transports
nutrients, minerals, and chemicals within the biosphere to all forms of life, sustains both plants and
animals. In addition, population growth can be one of the major causes of environmental degradation. The
more the population growth increases, the more we tend to seek for the resources of the environment
which play havoc with the environment's natural equilibrium.

To sum it up, environmental degradation is related to the occurrence of disasters in the country,
since it can be shown in different ways: it may be in the land, water, or even in air. And based on my
studies that I have read, that as humans can be also the reason why environmental degradation is
happening and why it is also causing disasters. If we are just cautious about our ecosystem or our
environment, we can make a change to stop this environmental degradation from happening.
