SETAMINE® US-138 BB-70

Technical Datasheet

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION COMPATIBILITY

SETAMINE US-138 resin is a highly reactive, n-butylated high imino Acrylic resins Very good
melamine crosslinker supplied in n-butanol. Like other high imino Alkyd resins Very good
melamine resins, SETAMINE US-138 has a high tendency to self- Polyester resins Very good
condense resulting in films with high film hardness that can be adjusted Epoxy resins Very good
based on loading. Its hydrophobic nature improves substrate wetting,
x
flow and leveling, and humidity and salt spray resistance making it
suitable for a wide range of applications including automotive topcoats

and general industrial finishes. SETAMINE US-138 resin is an effective crosslinker for backbone polymer

x resins containing hydroxyl, carboxyl, and amide functional groups, such
BENEFITS as those found on alkyd, polyester or acrylic resins. Although the
optimum level of SETAMINE US-138 resin should be determined
· Fast cure response experimentally, ratios of 25 to 35% based on resin solids are typically
· Substrate wetting most effective.
· High gloss

· Good petrol and acid resistance

APPLICATION AREAS SETAMINE US-138 resin may not require the addition of an acid catalyst
to the formulation to obtain effective cure. In many instances, the acidity
· Automotive top coats of the backbone polymer in the formulation is sufficient to catalyze the
· General industrial coatings reaction under normal baking conditions (15 - 20 minutes at 130 -

150°C). At lower bake temperatures, a catalyst, such as CYCAT® 296-9 is
x
recommended at a concentration of 0.5 - 1.0% on total resin solids.

TYPICAL PROPERTIES (NOT CONTINUALLY DETERMINED)

SETAMINE US-138 resin has a shelf life of 270 days from the date of
Property Range Method manufacture when stored at temperatures below 32°C. Although low
Density 1.03 g/ml ASTM D1475-13 temperatures are not detrimental to stability, its viscosity will increase,
Electrical Resistivity 0.7 – 1.8 MΩ ASTM D5682 possibly making the resin difficult to pump or pour. The viscosity will
reduce again on warming, but care should be taken to avoid excessive
x
local heat as this can cause an irreversible increase in viscosity. The
SOLUBILITY expiration date may be extended and COA updated after QC testing of

retained samples, only for material in allnex possession.
