DEPRESSION is a disorder that impacts people’s mood and makes them feel sad and lonely a lot.

Depression makes it really hard for people to have fun or enjoy things that they used to.

SYMPTOMS:

 Feeling sad, guilty, worthless, or hopeless


 Feeling tired all of the time
 Sleeping too much or not enough
 Having trouble focusing
 Not wanting to do fun things
 Eating too much or not enough
 Not liking yourself
 Missing school
 Not wanting to be around other people

IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU MIGHT BE DEPRESSED, LET A PARENT OR A TRUSTED ADULT KNOW. THEY WILL
BE ABLE TO GET YOU THE HELP THAT YOU NEED. IF YOU EVER HAVE THE THOUGHTS ABOUT WANTING
TO HURT YOURSELF, TELL SOMEONE IMMEDIATELY. OR IF A FRIEND EVER TELLS YOU THAT THEY MIGHT
WANT TO HURT THEMSELVES, TELL AN ADULT IMMEDIATELY.

ANXIETY is when something causes us to feel nervous and afraid. People who have an Anxiety disorder
have a more intense reaction. It can start to impact their grades, behaviors, and relationships with
others.

It can be caused by a number of things. Some people experience it for no reason. Others are triggered
by tests, being on stage, or being around other people. Suffering from anxiety can make you want to
avoid certain situations and places.

•Numbness or tingling in your hands or feet
•Feeling dizzy
•Feeling very weak
•Sweating
•Headache or stomach ache
•Heart beating really fast
•Muscles feel really tight
•Having a lot of thoughts going through your head

A therapist can help someone suffering from anxiety learn how to better cope with their symptoms

so that they are not as intense It can also be helpful to talk about the triggers to see why they

cause anxiety for that person

Someone suffering from anxiety can help lessen some of their symptoms by doing certain things on

their own Doing relaxation, eating healthy, and getting sleep are helpful ways to decrease anxiety

DEALING WITH FEELING BORED

Being bored means that you have nothing fun planned to do or there is nothing going on that gets you
excited. The best way to cope with boredom is by finding something to do that you enjoy.

Here are the ways of dealing with feeling bored:

LEARN A NEW HOBBY OR SKILL

Is there a skill or a hobby that you’ve been wanting to learn? This is your chance to do it! your chance to
do it! You can take time to learn the rules of a new sport and see how good you can get. You can watch
videos or read books about learning to play an instrument. You could also start a collection or try other
hobbies you may not have thought of such as photography, gardening, or hiking.

CREATE SOMETHING

Being bored gives you a chance e to get creative! Find materials around the house e to work on a fun
craft. Look for instructions for a special project or just make something up on your own You can also use
crayons, markers, or paint to create a work of art to hang in the house. You can try to create your own
characters and write a short story, funny skit, or comic

REACH OUT TO OTHERS

If you’re bored, reach out to other people and see what they are up to. You can join their
activity or invite them to come over and have fun with you. If your p arents or guardians aren’t
busy, ask them if they’d like to play a game with you. There are a lot of fun things you can do
with siblings as well. Activities that you can do with others include cooking, watching a show,
playing a game, or doing something fun outdoors.

LEARN TO RELAX

Sometimes having nothing to do can be a good thing! Rest and relaxation are good for your
mind and body. Taking time to relax can help you cope when you’re feeling stressed or
overwhelmed. There are things that you can do to unwind when you’re feeling b ored. You can
take a nap, read a book or practice meditation or yoga!

ANGER

Getting angry isn’t a bad thing. It’s a natural and normal feeling that everyone experiences!

The important thing is to learn how to cope with it in a healthy way so that it doesn’t hurt you
or other people.

What are Good ways of coping with anger?

Stop and think! Before you respond, give yourself time to think about the best way to handle
the situation. Reacting right away can lead to a poor choice.

Removing yourself from the situation. If you feel that you won’t be able to remain calm, you
can take a break and walk away from the situation if you need.

Telling the other person how they made you feel. Tell them why your feelings were hurt and
what you need them to do differently next time. They might apologize and try hard not to hurt
your feelings in the future.

Talking to someone about what made you angry. Talking about your feelings can help you to
calm down. It can be helpful to hear from others about how they would handle the situation.
Who do you talk to when you’re feeling angry?

Practicing relaxation to help your body calm down. Think of something calming while doing
some deep breathing. What is something you can think about that would help you feel
relaxed?

Listening to music or watching a movie/show. This can help take your mind off of what is
making you angry. What’s a song or show that makes you feel happy?

Doing something physical. Let out some of your energy by playing a sport or a game that you
enjoy. What is something physical that you would do?
Using positive self-talk. Positive self-talk is when you say or think things to yourself to help you
feel better. What could you tell yourself the next time you’re feeling angry?

Doing something different. If the way you’ve been coping with anger keeps getting you in
trouble, try to do something completely different just once and see how it goes!

What are Poor ways of coping with anger?

Responding as soon as you get mad. Responding right away when you get mad usually leads to
a wrong decision. Give yourself time to cool off!

Saying or doing mean things to the other person. Doing this usually makes the other person
angry and only makes the situation worse.

Using negative self-talk. Negative self-talk keeps you angry and can lead you to making a poor
choice. What are some examples of negative self-talk?

Hitting the other person or destroying property. It is NEVER okay to hit something or someone
when you get angry! You could seriously hurt yourself or the other person or get into BIG
trouble.

Not sharing your feelings. When you’re mad, it is helpful to express your feelings rather than
holding it all in. You can share your feelings with the other person or with a friend or adult.

Remember, it is okay to get angry! It’s all about how you cope with it. Before deciding how to
handle anger, remember these 3 anger rules.

1. Don’t hurt yourself!

2. Don’t hurt others!

3. Don’t destroy property!

STRESS MANAGEMENT

Stress happens when you have strong feelings of being worried, anxious, or
overwhelmed.

Good Stress vs. Bad Stress


Good stress makes us feel excited and is motivating. For example, moving on to
the next grade can make you feel stressed but it is something to be excited about.

Bad stress feels unpleasant and makes you feel sad and worried. Example of bad
stress is having a fight with your friend.

WAYS OF COPING WITH STRESS.

Figure out what is causing the stress.

This will help you figure out what you need to do to cope.

Take a time put. Sometimes it is helpful to take a break from whatever is stressing
you out.

Talk to an adult. If an adult can help you become less stressed, talk to them. If you
feel like you have too many activities during the week, talk to your parents about
making your schedule lighter.
