I. OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate understanding of how plants reproduce. (This
A. Content Standards will be copied from the curriculum guide.)

The learners should be able to create a hypothetical community to show

B. Performance how organisms interact and reproduce to survive.
Standards (This will be copied from the curriculum guide.)

Through an interactive discussion, the pupils are expected to:

A. tabulate the names of the reproductive parts of a plant and their
specific functions (S5LT-IIf-6);
B. compare and contrast the different modes of reproduction in
C. Learning
flowering and non-flowering plants using a Venn Diagram
Competencies
(S5LT-IIg-7); and
C. verbalize the importance of plant reproduction in the whole
ecosystem and to other organisms.
(These are the approved learning objectives for your group.)

IV. PROCEDURE
1. The pupils will conduct a review regarding the ways on how
animals reproduce.
A. Preliminary/
Developing Activities 2. They will verbalize that reproduction is necessary for the survival
of organisms.

1. The pupils will watch a Youtube video showing different ways on how
plants reproduce using this link:
B. Establishing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUAL7hHdOXI (Links to an external site.)

Purpose
2. The pupils will take note of the different ways of plant reproduction
shown in the video. They will write these in their Science notebook.

C. Presenting 1. The pupils will name the plants shown in the pictures below.
Examples/ Instances
of the New Lesson
2. Then, the pupils will share their observation that these plants are all
flowering plants.
3. The pupils will then look at the picture below and compare it to the
previous picture.

4. They will share their observation that the plants in the second
picture does not show flowers.
D. Discussing New 1. Using the pictures in the previous activity, the pupils will learn that there
Concepts and are plants that undergo sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction uses
Practicing New Skills gametes (sex cells), that are found in a plant’s flower. They will also
learn about the parts of the flower.
2. The pupils will also learn that some plants undergo asexual
reproduction. Asexual reproduction uses specialized cells or a portion of
the plant’s body to reproduce. It can be done through spore formation,
vegetative propagation, fragmentation, fission, or budding.
3. The pupils will then conclude that the first picture shows plants
undergoing sexual reproduction, while the second one shows examples
of plants undergoing asexual reproduction.

1. The pupils will read a list of plant parts that the teacher will
enumerate on the board.
2. The pupils will then complete a table that the teacher will post in the
board. The table will be written in Manila paper following the template
below.
Part Function Type of
Reproduction
Anther A part of the flower that Sexual
contains the pollen sacs,
which contains male sex
cells
Bud A small outgrowth from the Asexual
parent plant that grows to be a
clone of its parent.
Leaves Detached leaves can grow to Asexual
new plants called plantlets.
Ovary A part of the flower that Sexual
contains ovules, which
develop into seeds when
fertilized
Pistil This is the female Sexual
reproductive part of the
flower.
F. Developing Mastery Root Modified roots can hold Asexual
water and nutrients
underground and form new
plants, like tubers.
Seed This develops from ovules Sexual
after fertilization. It holds the
embryo in dormancy until a
favorable condition is
present.
Spore It is a specialized cell found in Asexual
the underside of ferns and other
plants. When in contact with the
ground, it can grow
to become a new plant.
Stamen This is the male reproductive Sexual
part of the flower that holds and
transports male sex
cells.
Stem The stem contains nodes, where Asexual
buds can form, just like in
runners. Sometimes, fleshier
stems can hold water
underground, just like
rhizomes.
G. Finding Practical 1. The pupils will analyze the picture below showing different plants that
Applications are common in the Philippines.
2. They will identify the plants shown in the picture, as well as their
common uses and/or benefits.
3. The pupils will also identify how these plants reproduce, basing on their
knowledge.
1. Using the same picture from the previous activity, the pupils will then
reflect on the following questions
 What will happen to Filipinos if the plants that are considered as a
H. Making staple will stop growing? How will it affect our lives?
Generalizations  What are the possible reasons why this could happen?
 As a Filipino and a learner, how will you be able to protect our plant
species from being extinct?

Instructions: In the Venn Diagram below, compare and contrast the

different modes of reproduction of flowering and non-flowering plants
using keywords or phrases. Then, briefly describe the major similarities and
differences in 3-5 sentences (1 item, 25 points)
