There are men and women galore who hold various degrees and claim to be alumni of
various leading universities. Their knowledge is bookish and has no relevance to
the condition and problems of teh modern world. While some have accumulated knowledge, others may be said to have accumulated ignorance in the form of inert facts. The real test of education shold lie in finding pleasure in the exercise of the mind, not in gross exhibition of theoretical knowledge in humility and service od fellow men, not in pride, arrogance and ill-treatment of people who are not well of economically or/are illiterate or semi-educated. Whether education has built up only cowards or ivory-tower dwellers or selfish, power hungry propel, it is decidedly fault, lop-sided and our of tune with the time. Joseph Addison was right when he said what sculpture is to a block marble; education is to the human soul. The philosopher, the saint, the hero, the wise, the good or the great very often lie hidden in a plebeian which a proper education might have brought to light. Besides, it has to be remembered that observation more than books, and experience rather than persons are the principal educators of humanity. Besides, true education does not come through text-books and exercise but through the mother's look, the father's guidance, his nod of approbation or of reproof, a brother's noble act of sacrifice and forbearance. Education shold lead to the development of common sense and to the inculcation of the basis virtues of humanity; if it does not then i t is pointless, a waste of time and money. In the cords of the Buddha "a lamp into you" should be an educated man, able to think independently, act courageously and show consideration to fellow beings.
