FINAL EXAMINATION: INTEGRATED PAPER

The six aspects of the self are the puzzle pieces that formed who I
am. Although these aspects have different meanings like puzzle pieces
having different shapes, their sides will still fit with one another
in order to complete me. And to be able to truly understand myself, I
need to know in what way will the sides of these puzzle pieces affect
each other. The puzzle pieces that creates me are my social, sexual,
material, political, spiritual and digital self.

Being a Filipino plays a big role on why I am who I am. Ever since we
have started recording history, we are known to have been brave
fighting for our rights. From our heroes who fought with the
Japanese, Spaniards and Americans. Blood of heroes run in our veins
therefore being brave is one of my traits that I am proud of. I have
respect for law and Government but I can’t bear to watch human rights
being trampled upon by our own president because of his unlawful
killings through his war on drugs. So as a Filipino, I ought to stand
up against any injustice and inequality.

I do this by posting my thoughts regarding this issue on social media

networks and participating in the petitions online to end the war on
drugs. As some people support this kind of act, I want them to know
how important human rights are and that the president is already
invalidating our rights by carrying out his war on drugs. We should
fight for it because our power and freedom that enables us to speak
up will fade if we always let the president have his way even if we
know he is wrong.

Another trait of mine is being religious and my religion is Catholic.
That is why my political stand is greatly affected by this aspect. I
am a follower of Christ, so I believe that the killing of human being
violates divine law and offends the dignity of the human person.
Also, the fifth commandment states that, “You shall not kill”, this
commandment demands reverence for human lives.

Aside from being religious, Filipinos are also known for being
family-oriented people, so I am taught to value my family and what my
responsibilities are as a part of the household. Thereby, having
goals and reaching that goal one by one is important to me. For now,
my goal is to graduate and then finding a stable job. I want to
succeed in life because I don’t want the hard work of my mother and
grandparents in raising me to go to waste.

My mother and my grandparents still supported me even though I am a

female choosing a traditionally male-dominated industry which is
Engineering as my course degree. I am pleased to know that they do
not take part to gender stereotypes. So, after graduating I want to
repay her along with my grandparents all that they have done to me.
The support, the love and even the material things that I needed in
order to achieve my goals in life.

They always give me the best qualities of things for me to feel

confident in what I am doing. They even bought me my own laptop and
study table to encourage me because knowing this kind of gender
stereotype, I can’t help but feel a little bit pressured. So, I
sometimes think that maybe this course is not for me or that this
will be tough for me because I am a woman. Nevertheless, the material

things that they gave me drive me to do my best because my sexuality
does not have anything to do with what I want to become in the
future.

Although our values and beliefs were greatly influenced by other

countries because of the colonization, it is still part of being a
Filipino. I am a Filipino and Philippines is where I live so it is
only obvious that the six aspects of my life manifest of that a
Filipino. I am brave, religious and a family-oriented person. I can’t
be whole when one of these aspects is missing as they are equally
important in defining who I am.
