I have an idea for an online rental company where I am renting out certain items based on a

subscription service. Unfortunately, the plugins for WordPress for rentals are all time limited.
Meaning you have to select when you will check into the room or check out the item and when
you will return the item or end your stay. There are no plugins that I've found that allow for
unlimited rental based on a subscription method. For example I become a member and have a
monthly billing subscription $20 per month. I am allowed to check out three items. I select the
items and they are mailed to me. I hold onto them for four months. During this time I am
charged each month $20. I return the items and three other items from my list are sent to me.

I'd like to find a developer that can make a database of the items that will allow them to be
displayed in a search function, allow a list of items to be created (sort of like a wish list) to be
shipped to you as the items become available, have membership function that allows for the
billing on a monthly, x months, or yearly billing cycle, allow me to manually charge customers
if they fail to return items after they cancel a membership, etc.

I am trying to give as much info as possible without giving everything away. If you have
questions please ask. My main question now is to find out how much a site like this will cost
me to get off the ground and would sites like WordPress, Shopify, etc be a good idea to use?
Any feedback is very much appreciated. Thank you!

There are a couple of routes to take:

1. Stay within the WordPress ecosystem. Have custom plugins built for WordPress
2. Build a custom application You start from scratch, but it will function exactly the way
you want it to. You never pay subscription fees (Shopify).

If you're capable and have the time to prepare detailed plans for a developer, I'd go with (2).

The more detail you can provide, the more streamlined the process will be. These include
drawing a mockup of each page, then inserting where you want buttons, text, text fields, etc.

You then write up the function of every button.

"user will select their plan, hit continue, they then enter their credit card information. They're
presented with a confirmation screen, if accepted, it will use Stripe to process the payment."

The email notification will look like this

Subject: thank you <first name> for your purchase. Body: hi <first name>

If your plans are detailed enough, you can asked for fixed price quotes, if not, the dev will ask
for hourly.
